  1. I would say that depending on the situation, most observers observe for the experience and the tips they learn. Not to mention if you get to fish the day before. I observed for Tomahawk (MOTOMAN) at the Wilson Harbor Inv and got to go back and fish as part of his team in the Oak Orchard Open. This time I brought my sister for an observer, who happens to be part of my fishing team in the Finger Lakes. We fished the day before the Oak Orchard Open and caught over 40 fish. 20-25 lb kings, 15 lb steelhead. She had the time of her life! (you should see her facebook page). When it came time for John to pay her, she wanted to pay him! Silver Fox is right, too many people want to do it now. 50 a day and pre fish the day before is a pretty fair start. I did it for the experience, not for the money. (it cost me considerably more than I made) But the relationships that were made as a result- priceless.
  2. Great lakes lure Company makes the #4 spoon, which is a copy of the Pflueger 4, but with the 5 hook already attached. Anyone interested in purchasing spoons for pulling copper can contact me by p.m. Or for any other inquires about casting, trolling or jigging spoons, produced by Great Lakes Lures. Jason Oakes
  3. I have that same auto pilot and I troll with my big motor. When trolling, I find we don't have enough rpm to effectively use it into the wind. It is constantly losing its bearing. In order to use it, I have to put more rpm than I desire to get it to hold, if I need it. Only then can I rely on it for an extended time. I am considering using a kicker motor, as I am looking for more effective speed control while trolling. The big motor has too much prop angle to get a good speed range. I have used the auto pilot off shore, in the Outer Banks. We trolled at 12-15 mph and it was very effective at those speeds. Overall I think its a good unit. As far as using it to steer a kicker with no big motor running, like Ray said, battery would be an issue. How much electrical draw you have, how often you start the main motor and charge your batteries, etc. I can steer my lower unit without much more effort out of power than with power. I don't see an issue with it working, just the electronics issue. We have a lot of electronics running on our boat. Wouldn't take very long to drain batteries.
  4. Nice box of fish Mike! Again, you definitely got your gear dialed in. Way to go! See you at Cayuga.
  5. Rampage won with an 11.28 laker. Had some other nice lakers weighed, and a nice9 lb rainbow. As far as conditions, less than a ft waves. 5-7 mph. Some debris here and there. Between Glen eldrige and peach orchard it was pretty bad, but the North wind this afternoon took care of that. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Agreed. It would be on the news and radio. Any way to get the word out. Especially for memorial weekend! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Ok, thanks. Thats what I was understanding. I know someone in the schuyler county clerks office and asked them to check with the sheriff and they were not aware of any speed limit for schuyler county. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. I was just on Seneca. Had a guy at the launch tell me there was a 5 mph speed limit on Seneca. I saw lots of boats doing way more than 5. Does anyone know what the story is? I cant find anything about Seneca. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I think this guy is communicating with aliens too! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Pouring rain the last couple hrs. Just had a 15 second hail storm. Huge hail for a good 15 seconds. hope thats all over for the weekend! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Coast guard should not be confused with reserve. The "coast guard" would have a mounted gun, and all personnel would be armed. The reserve has no enforcement capabilities. They can and will board you for compliance, but have no law enforcement ability. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Well I hope she does good for you! Gotta love them chocolate labs. We got one thats almost 12. Scout, and he sure does love the lake. Good luck to you and Molly. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Nice looking chocolate! She sniff out the fish too? Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. 68 normally would be the channel most would be on. This weekends chatter will be enough to make you want to move from that channel, especially if you have children with you. Personally, I use 72 as an alternative to 68, monitoring emergency and weather channel's as well.
  15. M-Arlene will be fishing the south end. I hope the fishing is as good as I am expecting! Good luck to all and as previously stated, it would be nice to see a LOU member win it. Again. Working the Clute park weigh in Sat 3-5. Stop in and say hi. Better yet, stop in and weigh a fish for the board. Good luck, Jason
  16. Well, I hate to flip flop here but I'm not gonna be able to change some of my obligations for memorial day. So, I'm fishing the nltd this weekend. You can count me in for big fish Fri. See you at Sampson. Looking forward to meeting folks from here! Nice job with putting this together Nick. Jason Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Keep in mind, like Sean said, monitor 16. All boats with a vhf are required to monitor 16. If you see any law enforcement vessel's, you might want to go to 16, in case they are trying to communicate with you. I've been boarded before, at least 3 times in the last 20 years. They always contact you on 16.
  18. Channel's 71 and 72 are non commercial channels as well. 72 is what we used to use to avoid all the nonsense on 68.
  19. Joe? You reading here? Rig fishing got you stumped? Cat got your tounge. Come back brother! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. North end was hot! But what will happen now with all the water being dumped into it? Gonna have to go back and see. I hope, just got all the parts to fix the damage done by losing a tire and axle. Luckily it wasn't the axle with the brakes on it. Should be ready to fish again by Sun morn. Yee haw! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Wow, thats not encouraging. Good North or south winds should fix that. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. So Joe, to answer your question 6 rods is good and 10 lures is good. But im not really comfortable with "limiting" myself on a tourny day. If you fish Seneca a lot, maybe we do this on a Sat or Sun on Seneca. Probably soon, while top water is still good fishing. Maybe the weekend after owasco? Let me know. And what about 5 leader rigs? I got lots of 309's and a ton of roller guide rods. I can loan you, but you tie your own rigs. I might even tie one for you as an example. I can tie a rig in 20 mins. Let me know what you think. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Im guessing owasco lake is just as bad as the others. Any one know owasco conditions? Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. To make this interesting, lets add a rig tourny too! Can you tie a good 5 leader? Maybe a best out of 3! I had to tackle up to do this, I think if I should adapt to do this, you can too! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I'd rather do this on a weekend thats not a tourny, and owasco is pretty prime right now. Good opportunity to move up in points! But I know you are looking forward to this, so I will entertain you! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
