  1. At the beginning of the season i swapped my Jiffy model 30 10" auger blade (single chipper blade) for an 8" stealth blade at a local jiffy dealer. My thermal tip ups wont cover a 10" hole. The stealth blade has 3 cutting blades, for those not familiar with it. 2 very small blades close to center of drill and 1 large chipper blade in the usual location. When i got the blades I took them off, sharpened the hell out of them, and figured they would drill holes by themselves!!!! WRONG!!! It is so hard to drill a hole with this auger something must b wrong. It takes 2 guys leaning on it to get thru 6-7". Had a strike master before. Never it smoked holes. Any thoughts? Replacement blades for the stupid thing are like 75-85 bucks. Your insights are appreciated. PS engine runs like a champ.

  2. Kevin, good looking northerns! A good friend and SLR fishing guide I have known since I was a kid has always preferred eating Northers out of all the fish he catches. Cold water gator is some firm tasty meat! Nice catch.

  3. I know guys who have lost shacks..... Eager to get them on the ice with winters like the one we are having.... They are now "bottom structure"..... Unless its a heck of a shack, I would assume recovery is cost prohibitive.

  4. Excellent point Sam. The rain is really going to be a killer too..... Waited quite a while for decent ice and now it could be tough fishing conditions from here on out. Lets pray for some single digit nights soon!! Stay safe.

  5. I bought a Vexilar TPod in May. Not really sure if I wanted to or really could afford a flasher but was dying to bring my game to the next level with some sort of sonar device. For those of u not familiar with the TPod, it is basically a floating transducer that connects to ur smart device via its own wi-fi signal. Your phone is the screen. I have never fished with a flasher before, but the information that is available to you when fishing is just amazing.... Display on this by the way is more like a traditional sonar, i.e. Hooks, bait pods, etc. However, to bassandbuck's point I can see how fishing with electronics is a total game changer in your fishing tactics. Awesome stuff.

  6. The equation for a constantly accelerating object (such as falling under gravity, and in these short distances we can ignore air resistance) is d = 1/2at², where d = distance, a = acceleration, and t= time.

    At 450fps the arrow will travel 50 yards in 1/3 of a second, so that's t. a = 32 fps/s, the force of gravity.

    So, solving for d:

    d = 1/2 * 32 * (1/3)²

    d= 16*0.11

    d= 1.78 feet

    If fired perfectly horizontally the arrow will fall 1.78 feet at 50 yards.

    Pretty damn cool device!

    Edit for rounding error.

    *Agreed! Physics = Awesome!![emoji106]ðŸ»

  7. My long range weather app says that sustained cold temps are not going to arrive until about Jan 10. We have discussed the reliability of long range weather forecasts but this winter's temps are predicted to be all over the map!!! I am not looking forward to a season of sketchy ice[emoji45]. Looking into floatation I think this year.
