Reliable Wind Report

Good to know thanks -
I’m thinking of heading out solo in front of Port Ontario and wondering what is a reliable wind report? I usually use accuweather but not always on point lately. I really don’t want to risk driving up there to find it’s more than I’m comfortable with when I could have stayed local to fish for the morning.

Hate when that happens. Try running the f/f just off bottom on the rigger to stir them up and have spoons off the dipseys? Good luck, should be a nice morning. I’m heading out for walleyes. -

Yeah, the stocking for both ended in the early 2000’s I believe but the walleyes are still around and reproducing on their own but I thought landlocked were still an occasional catch, too. I had something take a rip on my leadcore with a scatter rap down about 15’ over 100’ and spooled me down to 2 or 3 cranks of the trolling reel before it lept and shook the hook. I assumed it was a salmon because I never had a rainbow or brown run like that on the hit. I guess I would feel better if I knew it wasn’t a unicorn landlock. -

I may be wrong but I thought the digitroll could be set to self adjust to stay off of bottom by whatever distance it was set to, I could be confusing it with a different model. That would have been great for me since I often fish alone which is why I was hopeful to get it working. I’m assuming the ones that do that now are the pricier ones over $1,000?

GPS speeds
greenhornet73 replied to 180ccf's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I haven’t trolled a lot up there and also don’t have a fish hawk but it has been helpful to watch other boats trolling direction and try to fish the same speed from a distance and remember those speeds in each direction before I venture off away from the pack. You’ll notice a pattern with your DR cables and dipsey rod bends after a while to get a rough idea of down speed. Those currents can be crazy down there. -

Thank you Jim. Since you had the same model I am wondering if the toggle switch on the front was an add-on because the display wasn’t working or if yours had it as well? It would be nice to have them both operational so if the screen stopped working like yours did I can still use the toggle to winch up the ball.

I have an older Cannon Mag10A with a LCD display that has been disconnected from the inside of the housing. I bought it used like this and am wondering if this can be replaced? The toggle switch functions fine raising and lowering the ball but would like to get it back in full working condition if possible.
