  1. Could also be a reaction bite and not necessarily looking for an easy meal.
  2. I do not do a lot of musky fishing but when I’m at my friends camp on the SLR I have been trying my hand at some casting. My 6’ MH casting rod isn’t cutting it for my 1oz spinners and large crank baits. What are some decent rods for under $100? I am thinking heavy action and maybe 7-7 1/2’ to pair up with my Piscifun Alijoz 300. Any recommendations would be great, thank you.
  3. Awesome, your dedication definitely paid off. I tried Owasco for bullheads last Saturday evening and think I was a couple weeks late since there were none to be seen. I did jig a laker in about 4’ of water off the inlet. About 27” pretty strange but quickly released it.
  4. Awesome, congrats! It seems the salmon felt like eating Italian colors today, they have good taste.
  5. The trout opener has always been April 1st, I don’t see why other species need to open on a Saturday. It does stink to have to work on openers or take a day off but not everyone has Saturdays off. More incentive to retire early I say. 👍🏽
  6. If it has a 24” boom or longer and is in good shape, take a couple pics of them and dm me. Thanks!
  7. This is one of my trips last summer on cape cod and the rental company delivered right to my beach house and came and picked it up at the end of the week before I left. That’s the way to go, no fuss. Caught 13 of these one day on a hot bite until this one swallowed my circle hook so I towed it in and called it a morning.
  8. I actually do have wheels I mount it on, it’s the loading and unloading from my car top that my back no longer agrees with. I should get a small trailer for it then I’d be set 👍🏽
  9. My trigger finger is infected so I’m missing the first few days 😢
  10. That sounds promising. My Merc is 84 pounds and I feel like I am pulling 75 of it on my own with 2 fingers which one is currently infected so it really concerned me in the chance of not being in perfect physical health. Slim chance, something always hurts. The wide handle on the panther alone along with any additional help the springs give will be worth the switch. Thank you for sharing your experience with the 2 models, it pointed out the exact concerns I was debating over.
  11. I know that bracket seems like overkill for such a light motor but am just concerned about all these warnings online about trailering with the motor on these scissor mounts. I trailer my boat everywhere and will be using one strap if not 2 when on the road. The 407AL has the same specs as the Hoffen I currently have mounted but the handles suck and it takes more effort than I’d like to pull it up out of the water. How does yours do pulling it up? I’m definitely more excited about the lighter versions price…..already calculating what else I can buy with the saved money I haven’t even spent yet.
  12. I know, unfortunately they are too short for what I need
  13. I am now looking into the Panther 4 stroke bracket 550410. It’s rated for up to 283# and is designed to trailer with the motor mounted. Sounds like it will make each trip more enjoyable and easier on the back. Carrying the motor back and forth from my truck doesn’t agree with me especially when I fish alone. Does anyone have one of these and how do you like it?
  14. Yep, both feet planted on the platform and both hands to pull it up. Could be dicey on a choppy day. Will definitely have a ratchet strap on it when trailering.
  15. I freeze my fish in salt water and they always taste fresh caught. The frozen fish block takes up space but I rarely stock up my freezer with more than a few bags at a time. Lake Ontario fish I won’t keep unless I plan to eat them before I need to freeze. Just my personal taste.
  16. I currently have a manual downrigger on one side and would like to have a matching one for the other. Have one you are thinking of letting go of? I’m looking for one with a 24” boom or longer.
  17. I looked up the website where I purchased the bracket from and someone had asked about it in the Q&A section and the manufacturer said it is safe for any 4 stroke under 20 hp. Good to know for sure though sk8man,thank you for bringing that point to my attention.
  18. You think a 9 hp could have as much thrust as a 20 2-stroke? Hmm, I’ll ask my mechanic about that on Monday, thank you
  19. It is suitable for 2 and 4 strokes and I assume the 20hp max recommendation is for a 2 stroke. Either way I stayed under the weight and hp limits.
  20. The springs don’t seem to help me too much when pulling the motor back up though.
  21. The bracket is rated for up to 20hp and 110lbs. This 9.9 is 83 or 88 lbs, and can’t remember.
  22. Picked my boat up today from the fabricator and am really happy with it. Feels really sturdy and also allows me to use the tiller handle which I didn’t think would be possible. Precision Marine in Marietta did the work and it didn’t cost nearly as much as I thought it would.
  23. It’s a little late for browns but can still get them very early in the AM from what I hear but walleyes will be around but more of a quality fishery than quantity. I’ve caught them sporadically in the area at dawn and dusk on deep cranks and worm harnesses. You’ll want to post this in the South shore thread though since this one is mostly for Ontario, Canada fishermen.
  24. Well I finally dropped my boat off to Precision Marine in Marietta last week and they are going to custom build a motor mount out of 1/2” aluminum to fit my transom. Will be a little pricey but can’t wait to get it back and get back on the water soon. Will post pics for any others in the future with similar dilemmas of unique transoms with limited room for a kicker mount. Thanks again everyone for taking the time to share your input.
