  1. I used to fish Trestle Pool pretty far upstream on the SLR on Labor Day weekend and have had one fish on after another. September 1st isn’t early. The last few years have been late but this time of year it can happen quickly.
  2. Hey Clark, I’ll be fishing in front of Port Ontario Saturday until noon. If you’re out there I’d be happy to share intel or God forbid you need any assistance, give me a shout.
  3. As a kayak fisherman I would also suggest trolling dipseys until you mark a pod of fish then jig them.
  4. I was out Sunday and there were none. Tons of small rainbows hitting in the upper column
  5. I would like to try the boat launch at the south end of Skaneateles lake but don’t know anything about it. I hear it’s shallow and wondering if I can get my boat in there? If anyone has any info could you DM me?
  6. Good point, I haven’t travelled with it on its side for more than a few miles from the marina.
  7. Yeah, my rule of thumb is anything over 10mph from the west on that lake is a no go. It wouldn’t be any fun. Thanks for confirming.
  8. Supposed to head out to sylvan beach today to take a friend and his kids fishing with the boat but wind report isnt looking good. Anybody by the lake today to confirm weather/ wind report?
  9. I have a mercury 9.9 and there is a sticker on the side that says “this side up” I store it in my garage that way without draining the oil and haven’t had any problems. The dealer actually had it on its side when I picked it up.
  10. I’ve been using two ratchet straps and it doesn’t seem to bounce around at all. You shouldn’t need to drain the oil to take the kicker off as long as you lay it down on the correct side?
  11. Yes, the trout I eat dont eat alewives. Definitely makes a difference in my opinion even if trimming off all the dark meat.
  12. I just successfully deep fried lake trout and it was actually really good, first time ever. It was a 20” lake trout I caught this morning and I bled it in the live well and threw it on ice. When I got home I butterflied it and skinned it, then sliced off all the dark meat and the lateral line. Then salted it and soaked in the fridge in lemon juice for an hour. (Thanks sk8man I believe who recommended that step) After that, rinsed it and patted dry. Cut the fillets in 2” chunks and salt/ peppered, Dredged in GF flour because I’m a celiac, then refrigerated in a zip lock for an hour. Deep fried in vegetable oil with a pat of butter mixed in. Ate it with seafood chowder I bought at the wharf yesterday before I drove home from Cape Cod. It wasn’t walleye but was definitely not far off. This was the first lake trout I kept in many years and will now be keeping one each trip if I plan on eating it that day. Not sure how it would work with a Lake O fatty but try it with a smaller one and it will surprise you.
  13. If it were Amazon, they would just leave it on the side of the road without you even asking. I know because they’ve done it twice to me.
  14. You’ll love how it handles over the aluminum when there’s a chop
  15. It looks like sk8man has the holders bolted to a cannon 30 degree gimbal mount like I have for my downriggers. That should be perfect for you if that’s the case.
  16. Clark, for what it’s worth I had 30 degree gimbal rod holders that I swapped out for 90 degree and dropped these adjustable tridents in. They work awesome for planer boards and dipseys and are solid. Just a thought.
  17. I’ve caught a seagull before trolling but never a chicken. Try trolling corn
  18. Good luck with the new rig Clark! I’m on the Cape playing in my little dinghy again, no stripers yet. Actually looking forward to getting home and getting my boat on the big O as soon as I get there.
  19. I forgot to mention to dredge the fish in flour or dry mix before dipping into the wet mix. The batter will stick better. I updated this into the recipe above.
  20. Carbon 14 and Green Hornet are almost always swimming for me. I’m surprised the second one doesn’t get mentioned at all, it’s a steady producer as well.
  21. I’m queezy just thinking about it. Getting bites is a helpful distraction though.
  22. X2 on the rubber band, I buy a bag of 100 every season
  23. Yes, attached to the cable then the ball below it. Use the same releases where you normally would.
