  1. So basically what you’re saying is if my riggers are 80-100 down, my 10# fishweights should not be blowing back at a 45degree angle but more perpendicular? The angle of the cables then should give me a better idea of my down speed then. Correct?
  2. No my weights were not registering on the finder even when I am down to 2.4. I was feeling like we were always going faster than the gps speed on the screen. I think I will bump up the sensitivity on the finder and like you said, run a spoon boatside to see how it’s running. I have buckets on board I use for walleye trolling and maybe should be using them all the time.
  3. Wow great job! Definitely going to add a meat rig to my next spread
  4. Nice job, that’s awesome! My nephew has never seen a walleye so I am hoping to introduce him to an Otisco football soon. Finally got my second downrigger working so I can finally get my max 5 rod spread going.
  5. Yep that was me haha. The boat that came in behind you had some luck out deep so that’s where we started. At least I got some practice with the downriggers and Dipsy diver so it was good experience
  6. Another thing is the blow back with my 10# weights was ridiculous no matter what direction we ran. Even the side with only 2 spoons running and no flashers. No idea what depth my lures were at.
  7. Don’t feel bad, in did the same out there. Went out to 180-200 and marked 2 loners over 183. Moved in and eventually marked more frequent loners 52 feet down over 110’. Lost one small one that took the deep FF on the rigger and that was it over 4 hours of fishing 5 rods. Beautiful day to be on the lake though, calm as could be
  8. I don’t have a fishhawk yet, most likely next year. This year I’m still building my trolling outfits and tackle selection. Most of my flashers are green/ glow or Mountain Dew/ glow. I’ll have to pick up a meat rig at the shop on my way
  9. Perfect, thanks so much. Looks like I’ll have to make a stop at Screwy Lewis’s and have Brendan hook me up with some mags. I really appreciate the info, at least it gives me a game plan to start with
  10. Also, is 20# leader ok for spoons? I’ll probably go 35# fluoro with the FF and Dipsy.
  11. Awesome nice job and thanks for the advice. I have a limited selection of spoons, mostly standard size Stingers and a few mags. Is it too early for mags or does it depend on the day?
  12. Ok, here it is. It is finally time to venture beyond my kayaks limits and take the new boat off-shore tomorrow. Would anybody like to offer any advice on a starting point as far as depth and about how far from the chute it is? Being my first time beyond 1/2 mile out I don’t want to get too far away from my starting point. Planning to run 2 downriggers stacked with 200’ max of cable and 1 Dipsy Rod in my 19’ CC. Any advice would help greatly, thanks
  13. Wow that brown is a football compared to the one we got last night. It was slender but healthy besides the bite wound right behind its head
  14. Great, thanks for the info. I’ll have to get in touch with Shane about the t-top. Just got back from the lake after a 3 hour troll with my friend and his son who don’t fish much. Dropped two heavy fish in mid fight, the second may have been a musky or a huge eye since we didn’t gain much line during the 3 minute tug of war that hit 28 feet down over 63’ on the rigger. Both heavy hits came on the same stacker and had a couple quick releases as well. I just set the lines and drove the boat and let them reel up all the hits. I did grab one planer board hit and landed a 14” brown on a rapala. Can’t wait to get back out there and land some.
  15. It came with a sweet t-top but I need to find someone that can weld aluminum before I can bolt it back on. It was docked on Fire Island and at low tide it keeled on its side and bent 2 middle sections of the uprights
  16. It’s a 1999 19’ with 2003 2-stroke 130 Yamaha
  17. Thanks, it’s been my project this year getting it outfitted and finally running like it should. Just have to get a drift sock or 2 to keep that 130 at a nice trolling speed. It does not like to run steady on slow idle without coughing
  18. Nice, you make it sounds too easy. It definitely needs to go down a couple more feet but at least my tailpipe isn’t underwater at the launch anymore
  19. Nice to be able to feel the fight from a quality fish like that on a lightweight rod rather than a broomstick trolling rod
  20. Awesome, very nice. At some point I hope to have some quality gear like that but still building my arsenal. Just finished rigging up my 5th trolling rod, a wire Dipsy setup. I also got a few of the lures you suggested and hope to do a shakedown run on Otisco this week before I hit the big O. I’d love to get a couple of those eyes trolling without spinning a kayak around and tangling up lines this time haha
  21. Wow that’s impressive. I’m not a fan of the quality of Michigan Stingers but that’s all I’ve ever trolled with and they work well but sounds like I need to broaden my brand selection. Do you use wire leaders or just heavy fluoro leaders
  22. Those jr silver streaks are the little guys right? I have a bunch of Stingers for browns on Ontario but a few Scorpions which are 2 1/2”, wow they look small for Otisco though?! Are the fish spooky? Wondering how far behind the ball I should set the closest lines
  23. Awesome, thanks so much Justin for the report!
  24. How’s the fishing been out there? I haven’t been to Otisco for 3 weeks but hoping to try out my new downriggers today before I hit Ontario. I have never been able to try spoons for walleyes here but would like to throw a couple into the mix to see how they do. Any color guidelines to follow or does it change by the day?
  25. I have also caught them on soft imitation eggs with my fly rod. Lots of fun but may require a forearm brace once you’re through
