  1. I'm no pro, but my procedure is based on the day before reports. Weather and wave 1st, fish 2nd. Running a small craft, there are 3 points of contact that are my main usage. If the dunes and north are hot, Sandy's the closest . If the stacks are hot (power plant ), Mexico is closest. Pine grove is shallow but puts you in the estuary right in the middle. I don't know how familiar you are with the bay, but basically I like to cut a line between the dunes and the stacks. 90 to 150 '. With the threat of thunderstorms I always want to have the shortest run to port. Pine grove gives me the best options.
Hope this helps, there's alot of guys that know better than me.

I really appreciate the help, flying blind but have to start some how so this really helps.

  2. We all need a little help this year. Can't think of a better way to find clarity than fighting a fat salmon in late summer. Hell, I'll take a 20lb laker any day. See you out front, I'll be the idiot in the misty harbor with the big grin on his face.

Ya I do lol don’t mind helping I remember times when I could have used help and never got any and it sucked so figure I skip the really hard part for some people don’t catch em all though leave some out there for me

  3. Well said and honestly all the things and tips and tricks everyone is throwing at you  low baller are ways to try and put tight lipped fish in the box but unless u have a lot of money it’s all the things you acquire overs years of fishing I was fortunate enough to buy the same boat and tackle that I fished on for about 15 years from my friend who got to elderly to fish and also taught me about 98 percent of everything I know about fishing out there but I’ve been hooked for life on it
And it's folks like yourself that have taught me most of what I know. That's what I like about this sight. And I'm finally starting to put faces to names which is very cool. I'm just a fat guy in a little boat. Been playing the late season game for about 15 yrs now. If I can put a couple in the freezer each year, I'm a happy boy. Thanks

  4. Meat riggs can get expensive.  If u dont get to pick a couple up I have a bunch I can loan ya.
My plan is to be at my boat around 8ish Friday night.  If ur up there maybe we can meet up and get a bite to eat and talk salmon.  Lol
All depends on Ty. He's trying to finish up a job this week so we can stay up till next Tues. If the weather holds. I'll text you later this week. Worst scenerio is we come up Saturday morning and go from there. I know he's going like hell this week. Lol

  5. Someone wrote an interesting thread about tipping flys with strips. Always thought about that. Kind of like a flounder rig. Makes the bait bigger, and adds a little action. Thinking out loud.

I started running meat rigs with MC Rockets a few years back and then with real meat last year. I always have one down deep now. Some days its the only thing that fires. It's made my catch rate much more consistent.

  6. I usually launch at pine, get to 60+ and set gear head north. Depends on wind. I'm small so I prefer a tail wind for return. Don't mind the push on the out . Low and slow. Never tried meat rigs, though I experiment with alewife oil on flys. Hard to tell, when they're active they'll take just about anything.

That’s where I’ve been launching from I can’t handle Mexico on weekends anymore I’d start in 150 in front of big river work your way north

  7. That's what I like to see. Do a little scout before we get up there. Ty, aka the Red Headed Yetti, is so pumped. He even bought a pair of inflatable pfds and glow sticks for me. I might have to launch out of Sandy if the fish are still around the 150. That's a hump from pine grove. Hoping there's bait in the 100. No problem with under 2' but like to stay in my comfort zone. Thanks for the info folks, fingers crossed.

  8. This season I started noticing small dime to quarter size bubbles in the paint on my transom. Upon scratching off the paint bubbles I'm finding small pinholes corroded through the aluminum.

2 questions. 1 , what's causing it,and 2, proper repair? The boat is 22 yrs old, I have used it a few times in saltwater for flounder, and I did replace the fuse bus 2 seasons ago. Electrolysis ? Magnetism? Or just showing her age? For now I'm just going to silicone the spots, she's getting an overhaul this winter.
