  1. GARMIN GPS Map 942 XS with mid range 80-160 kHz Chirp Transducer. Little bit of everything on this screen....Lakers on bottom, bait ball, salmon in the riggers and steelhead/Browns above! [emoji2] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Recently picked up a Beckmann with a 6-9’ extension handle and 28” x 51” x 40” Net. When fully extended it gives you 13’ of reach! The biggest salmon disappear inside of it! Lol! Was $120 at Fish USA! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I recently picked up and started using a Church Tackle Stern Planer and do exactly as you describe! It’s fantastic! I was just thinking about adding this Chute diver for another rod I the spread but, starting to think better of the idea! Thanks to everyone who took the time to answer, really appreciate all the advice! Mike
  4. I have an extra 8’ Wire Diver rod that I’d like to consider running on the “0” setting of a Mag Diver straight down out the chute between my 2 (only) corner riggers. Safe/Effective to do or asking for trouble? Thanks! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Another vote for Impaler Hooks! All my magnum spoons get a 1/0, stingray sized spoons, size 2! Super strong and they stick em!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Just ordered a 28”x51” hoop x 40” deep Beckman with a 6-9’ telescopic handle from Fish USA, $119 with shipping. Should give me about a 12’ reach. https://www.fishusa.com/product/Beckman-Standard-Net?utm_source=Order&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=OrderConfirmation Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

  8. Is this a left hand reel? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. Aside from the extra breaking strength of 45lb copper vs 27lb LC, Is there any advantage to running a short copper like a 150 as opposed to a segmented LC rig of comparable depth capability? Thanks Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Thank you VERY much VooDoo! Will give this a try this weekend! Good Fishing! :-) Mike
  11. Thanks for the reply VooDoo! Just so I’m clear you are subtracting 10% off of the Dipsy that is set on the 1 setting? For example, if you’re running your DD 250’ down on the 1 setting, you are running your Slider 225’ down to achieve a similar depth as the DD? And with the 30 to 50’ of 40lb Mono segment before the bead/Barrel swivel and leader, are you letting out Line only to the connection between the Braid and Mono then locking in the slider or can you let out line beyond the knot and lock onto the Braid? Thanks very much! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Hi Guys, just picked up a pair of size 1 Slide Divers and the size 2 and 3 power Rings. Can someone offer some basic advice on their use ie) preferred main line, dive depths, etc. Anything to be particularly aware of? Many thanks! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Follow up to Capt Rich, got my new Seagate 60, 40lb PP & 500 Copper; everything spooled up as advised! Thanks again Capt! [emoji2] Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. I’ve narrowed down my choice of a Chartplotter/sonar to the GARMIN GPSMap 942xs to be used solely for trolling for salmon on Lake Ontario. Looking for advice as to the best Chirp frequency range (Low, Medium, High) for this purpose. Thanks for any help! Mike
  15. New (to me) boat last year, bought specifically to fish for Salmon on Lake Ontario. Boat came with a Garmin 740s Chartplotter/GPS/Sonar/Radar all in one unit. GPS, Chartplotter and Radar work great, fish finder capabilities, poor at best. Has a dual frequency transducer, 50/200. The 50 interferes with the Fish Hawk and on 200, can’t seem to mark much other than an occasional blip or spec. Long story short, I’m suffering from fishfinder envy when I see pics of everyone’s sonar with Big beautiful arches and streakers going up to the DR line (which I don’t mark either)! Willing to drop up to $1500 on a new unit. Would greatly appreciate advice as to recommendations on an up to date unit that shows me fish so I’m not surprised when I actually hook something? Every fish I’ve caught so far seems like a total accident because I never Mark anything! Also, one that does not interfere with the Fish Hawk! Would like something in a 9” screen or larger. Thank you very much and apologies for the long winded post! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. First year trolling for Browns and we’ve we’ve been having some luck in the shallower depths (5-15 FOW) running Flat Line Mono rods off of Planer boards with spoons and stick baits. What about when you start moving out deeper say, 20+ feet, are guys still running flat lines or are you now adding weight to your rods or perhaps using segmented leadcore rods? Thank you ! 17. Thank you Sk8! All the best this season to you as well! Mike
  18. Thank you Sir! I’m just starting out on my first full season coming up and trying to absorb all this mind boggling info! Makes sense as far as the spoons and sticks are concerned! Appreciate the advice! Mike
  19. I keep my spare Flies un-rigged and store them in oversized Slurpee straws and the rigs on rolls of pipe insulation. The rest are rigged and connected to my Flashers in another storage box! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. There were several responses in which 30lb Mono is used for the riggers plus a Fluoro Leader. I was under the impression that most fishermen are connecting the Mono right to a Flasher/Fly. Are you saying you should use a leader between the 30lb Mono and the FF? Thanks-Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Thanks Capt Rich, ordered up some 40lb PP! [emoji2] Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Hi fellas, does anyone use a Seagate 60 for a 500 Copper (45#)? If so how much backing are you using and what lb weight? Apologize if this is a repeat but I couldn’t seem to find a reference for it. Thanks! Mike Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Fantastic tutorial! Thank you very much for helping de-mystify this application. Back to the drawing board to re-visit adding copper sets! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Another fan of the Alberto Knot! Stupid simple to tie and brutally strong! Best of all it slips through your guides with ease! [emoji2] Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Thank you everyone who replied, very much appreciated! Mike
