  1. Been having many 20 + hook up days on Cayuga with mixed bags of both rainbows and Lakers trolling. Temp break seems to be right about 60 ft. Mid lake has been treating me the best. Fleas aren't terrible they are there but manageable been running every thing from mag divers on a 1 out 210 to 150 coppers all depths have been producing
  2. Water clarity has definitely improved fished all weekend did mixed bags of Lakers and rainbows Saturday and Sunday.
  3. As far as the jigging game goes I really can't give you much for information. I strictly troll. I can however tell you that the down temps are 50 degrees about 60 ft down. Maybe try looking shallower on the bottom for bottom oriented fish. Like I said before I can't help much with jigging but I know in my application that if you find the temps evenually the fish will be there. Good luck tight lines
  4. From looking back at pictures from the last 3 years the best I can say is that the lake will start to clear up in a couple of weeks to a month. This year's color is alot like it was in 2023 and that cleared up in about 3 weeks. How ever the lake temps were more on par with normal in 2023. And this color change happened around late June and was mostly gone by mid July. I'm not by any means a biologist. I do record my down temps and surface temps and water conditions every trip we take and from my records the lake is 3 to 4 weeks behind schedule for what I would call an average. I also fish the entire lake and I am fishing now where we normally would be fishing late June. These are my personal records that I have I can't say for certain that the lake will be more or less cloudy by in a couple of weeks but I can say that it is definitely an annual event some years are "worse" than others but this is a normal thing to see. The blue green alge we see is usally in the bays and more stagnant shallow water. As far as bait being found I'm marking a ton of bait balls bot on side scan and on normal sonar every trip. The fish are all healthy that we catch and this year the lampreys have been non existent. Last year I spoke with the biologist numerous times about how many lampreys we were getting both fresh wounds on fish and attached to fish and this year that problem seems to be 100% better. Fleas in the lake didn't really show up in force untill about 2 weeks ago wich is another indicator of the lake being colder longer in to the summer than I can remember. It's been a cold gray spring
  5. She assured me it had nothing to do with alge and was from the lake setting up. I typed slower than I was thinking. We had a trip on Tuesday and even then the water clarity had improved alot from the weekend. Think dark cloudy days for presentation colors
  6. The Caribbean looking g water is a seasonal event has happened for many years usally end of June through the first part of July. It is a sure sign the lake is going to finally establish it thermalcline. As.far as.fishing is concerned we fished all weekend and boated well over 60 fish in 3 days big rainbows lakes.and even got in to some salmon. The fleas are a nusance but manageable. With all the rain and miserable cold.may and June the lake temps are about a month behind schedule and so are the fish. By August the lake will clear up. I've seen this many times.and it is not alge. I've spoken numerous times with the biologist in charge of Cayuga and she has assured me in the past it has to do with the lake setting up. Good look out there
  7. We used to troll on the mains for years with the 250s. Some times we would have both engines running some times 1 engine dependent on currents and down speed. We now troll with a 20 hp suzuki and it is great. So much easier to really dial in speeds. So yes we have twin main engines and a kicker
  8. Not sure wich probe you have but I have their New Lithium probe paired.with the X-4 display and mi e did the same thing back early may. After giving me goofy high down temps lime that for a few trips it went to saying the down temp was 32.4 to 32.6. I contacted fish hawk and they sent me a new probe to try. Put new probe on and it is back to normal. I have a feeling your unit is probably going to do the same thing. Not sure why and from speaking with fish hawk they were not clear on why it happened. I found emailing.tjem is the best action. They responded to my questions with in a few hours
  9. Thanks for the response. Out of curiosity what did you like about them vs the convectors. I have always had good luck with convectors and cold waters. Especially after doing drags on them. I plan to use these also on diver set ups.
  10. Wondering if anyone has any real world reviews or opinions on the Fish USA Okuma Storm Runner series reels. They seem to be priced right between the convectors and the cold waters. Any feed back appreciated.
  11. As the dust has finally settled some I am finally at a point I can reflect on what occurred to me. The previous thred started by Captain Mark Lewis was about what happened to me at the beginning of the month. My boat was cleaned out in the middle of the night by 4 individuals dressed in all black and wearing gloves and face masks. They stole a life time worth of work from me and even stole my garbage bags to help load my stuff in to to carry it all. The list of things they took is long but the other post has had people sharing market place listing and I don't want innocent people being accused of things. I had 4 spoon pads taken consisting of over 200 spoons various makes and sizes. 11 rod and reel combo's taken. The reels are all connectors or Mada pros some pen warfare and a few old versions of the cabelas depthmaster reels. All the reels were 45s and 30 series reels they also were spooled with short cores and short coppers and some with braid. The rods were all ugly stick gx3 rods at 7ft 6 inch. If anyone is interested these rods in a medium ligjt action are awsome for fingerlakes lake trout with both down gingers and junk lines. My diver set ups were also lifted consisting of connector 30 reels with wire on them the rods are diawa great lakes with twili tips. Also every fly set up every spin n glo / gambler rig set up was taken with over 80 of each. The out pouring of support and generosity from the marina and other fisherman has been humbling to say the least. We are still operating and trying to put this behind us. It has been like starting from scratch half way threw the season. I have learned over the years giving up is not an option and grinding it out only makes you stronger. Or first charter a day after the theft we.did with 6 borrowed fishing poles and 10 spoons and some borrowed Flys and we successfully bought fish to the boat. I thank everyone for keeping an eye out but I would hate to see someone get coined a theif for selling what is rightfully theirs. I am watching all versions of online forms for selling things.and will know immediately if the stuff being sold is mine. Thank you everyone and keep on fishing tight lines and we will see you on the water
  12. Lansing harbor. has an excellent mechanic an will do everything you are asking for.
  13. Just giving everyone a heads up the fleas are starting to become a pain on Cayuga. The 65 degree surface Temps on Sunday have increased to 73 on Tuesday bringing along with it the fleas. Weed mats are also scattered lake wide. Time for heavy lines. Water clarity is normal for this time of year as the lake is starting its transition. Good luck out there tight lines
  14. No he had an older starcraft alluminum boat.
  15. Spent my summers in the camp ground behind Kidders market. My grandfather helped establish the camp ground with the Havlans. In 1985 I would have been about 6. Unfortunately I don't remember you but I do remember Bunny and maybe your grandmother. My last name is Miner. The docks down near the cottages had my grandfather's old boat hoist on it the remnants of his spot was there until the new owners re-did the dock
  16. I'm not that old, The guy I spoke of was in his 80s when I was a child back in the early 80s. He was friends with my grandfather and lived in the farm house across the street from the old kidders market that is now an event center. Everyone called him Bunny
  17. After reading this post and speaking to some locals the information that I was able to come up with are its an old log barge. The wreck is known to some people and in conversation they knew it's exact location. Back in the 1800 many Salt and log barges went down in Cayuga. Many of them were not documented because of the time period. When growing up on the lake there was a gentleman I knew that actually used to operate the ferry between kidder landing and Frontenac. I only wish he was still alive so I could pick his brain. He was an old salt.
  18. Yes they are my son is my mate who is in the green shirt was hollering almost as load as the kid who caught the fish
  19. Had a great Groupe of folks out today and we caught a new boat record for Cayuga Lake. The fish came on a mag dipsy on a 1 setting out 220 ft. The fish tipped the scales at little over 16.5 lbs. And measured a.little over 38 inches. Best of all a 12 year old reeled the fish in. He was in complete amazement when we pulled the fish over the back of the boat then I told him in 30 years of fishing Cayuga lake that was.the biggest Lake Trout I had ever seen the lake give up. That was the Icing on the cake. He literally started screaming. Pretty sure they heard us back in Ithaca.
  20. Fishing was a little slower than it has been. Finding clean water to fish continues to be the biggest challenge because of weeds. Silvers were in the top 40 to 60 and Lakers were from 60 on down. Good luck go get em.
  21. Fleas were terrible again today. I don't know very much about cortland flea ficker line but the blood run stuff didn't and hasn't worked for me. 5 lb mono also has had no effect. The only thing that is working is checking your gear every 15 minutes or so that I have found
  22. Fished today the lakenis definitely clearing up from the green milky mess it was for most of July. Was north of Sheldrake some today and that was where the most weed mat problems were. Fleas on the other hand are a big issue. No 50 lb mono isn't keeping them off no flea flicker line isn't working when they are thick enough to stick to downrigger cable nothing that fits on a reel is going to keep them off. Wire divers are even clogging at the roller tip. Only solution is to clear lines often. Good luck out there be safe tight lines everyone
  23. Very true Les I have never really had much luck with all of the flea lines and heavy diameter line. When the fleas are bad they stick to everything and make a mess of everything. As far as it effecting the fishing I have never recorded any change in fishing that I could say was because of fleas. Fleas are temperature tolerant so I'm not sure how it affects trout and salmon species that don't spend alot of time in 70+ degree water. The effect they have is it makes it tough to keep rigs in the water for long periods of time. If your stuff isn't in the water it's not catching fish.
  24. Just giving everyone a heads up the alge bloom seems to have cleared up. The lake is back to its normal colors and clarity. Weeds are still a nusance but have also cleared up after we have had some hard winds over the last week. We now have replaced those head aches with fleas. Fleas were terrible all weekend. Sticking to everything including downrigger cable's. Heavy mono did nothing over the weekend. Be prepared to check your gear often for a while. Even had fleas gumming up wire divers today. Good luck all fishing remains great tight lines and be safe out there.
  25. The farthest north I have been in a couple of weeks was between Sheldrake and Long Point. More of the same weed mats and weeds its not unmissable but definitely a nuisance.
