  1. I went to the inlet last Thursday after no luck fishing at the outlet and saw a bunch of dead what looked like big bluegills and rock bass but there were several dead fish. in addition I saw 3 pike 1 on top of the dam and talked to some people who said there were a good amount pike a few weeks before the brief freeze came through so I am guessing this year isn't going to be a good spawn year. I found it weird there were several groups of bluegill alive at the inlet and also noticed even more logs at the top of the dam and was wondering if anyone has seen the pike jump back down over the dam after they are done spawning?
  2. I don't know a lot about Lake Ontario's Salmon but just have couple about why possibly our King salmon are getting smaller with one from a friend and the other one I just thought off. It's possible the DEC switched stocking strains at some point for a smaller strain that has a higher survival rate and they picked numbers over size, I know someone that believes this but haven't found any proof. One of my theory though most likely untrue is there are only 2 or 3 fish depending on how you look at it that would eat a King Salmon and that would be a northern pike or a muskie or a tiger muskie if you want to count that as a third. There are big pike and muskies in the lake but not a lot they are really struggling especially the muskies which I would think would be the main fish to eat a lot of the smaller salmon reducing the competition on the Salmon and leaving the stronger ones to survive but since they are declining they aren't eating and eliminating the smaller weaker ones. I have doubts too on this one but something that came to my mind. . Another thought was high thiaminase levels from the alewives. I was thinking its possible that the severe Vitamin B1 Deficiency causes the older fish to not succeed at spawning and so its caused the younger ones to spread the generics where they succeeded when spawning younger, as well as causing poor growth. My solution for this would be to get more of them to adapt and start eating the gobies as I think I heard people are starting to find gobies in their stomach and the Lake trout have no problem eating them and they prefer colder water temperatures then the Kings so I don't see why they couldn't start.. I know in another post I couldn't find the topic for from last year about the King Salmon I mentioned with the DEC grinding up the gobies and mixing in the hatchery food to get them to eat more of them and mix up their diet a little bit more. I know somebody said that in another post it would be expensive to catch them but if the DEC keep all the ones they catch from their surveys that might solve that problem and someone mentioned botulism from the gobies so I guess it would be a trade off of risk.
  3. I remember when I was younger once I got to go to Chippewa Bay (Had family that lived closer to the bridge) and it was July but I know the fish were spawning later and I briefly saw 2 muskies spawning Catching a 1 in a trillion wild tiger muskie would be awesome as well. (I have caught 2 stockers)
  4. Thank you I managed to get a 28" with a nightcrawler on an improvised Carolina rig with a nightcrawler at the 20-80 ft drop off ( not 100% sure of the exact depths as i don't have a map)but had no idea what to do targeting them what about muskies i could easily see trolling walleye sized Crankbaits to be productive for pike but would want to know what to do for sure because fish are regional
  5. So every September me and a group of friends stay up at Round Island for a couple nights and this year I intend on bringing a buddy who while knowing how to troll hasn't fished the 1000 islands and would like to get some info for getting pike, muskies and some walleyes in that area.
  6. Wish i saw this before i went to penn yann but thank you
  7. 8" on Branchport any advice for big pike in penn yann thinking about going out there tomorrow
  8. They stamped mine on my drivers license and when i renewed it this year the one they sent me had both stamped on it
  9. My guess is because of how low the water has been the past several springs that being said i have noticed around everywhere in general the past 2 years the bite hasn't been as good.
  10. I am still surprised the grandma hasn't taken more fish the 6" deep diver is what we have been running I gave my buddy one where 1 fish was lost and another was caught but thats it and mine doesn't even get a hit went on Saturday and we ended up getting 3 smallmouth on a flicker minnow i believe also would be interested in details about the tigers as my only 2 have come in May
  11. Shallow as in 8-12 fow?
  12. I will im prepping for the fall bite
  13. Idk was about to try a white twister tail i read people have better luck with them then anything else
  14. I think the bigger ones made it to the spawning grounds before they did their survey
  15. I actually did read it right it was 28" at age 4 https://dec.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2025-03/tb8conesuspike.pdf Walleyes are 20" at age 4 in conesus
  16. I misread the survey average 4 year old pike is 20"
  17. which is what gave me hope You are definitely right about pressure But i would think the alewife taste would ruin it for a lot of people some of the fish my buddy marks trolling really makes me think there are still some there with the salmon i thought they found for whatever reason they keep spawning at age 2 the last several years instead of waiting longer?
  18. Thank you I would normally agree on that needle in the haystack Imo The invasive alewives they have to eat and more successful spawning due to the spawning grounds they made produces more and lots of people say its a big pike fishery
  19. Could very well be but just saw big ones at the inlet where they go to spawn last year
  20. Been fishing Conesus heavily to try to get a 40" pike have fished deep and weedlines for the past few years now with spoons spinnerbaits, rouges, shad raps imitating alewives primarily with some perch colored lures getting fish big and small and usually get pike here and there but nothing past 34" and the numbers of moderate sized fish seem down too compared to 2 years ago. I don't know what i am doing wrong though i have managed 2 tigers and 1 walleye
  21. My Yearly trip with my buddies to the river at round island is coming up and was wondering how the fish populations are doing and had some questions Does anybody know anything about the crappies as i can't find anything Any Largemouth bass info just curious if there were places close by so that i wouldn't have to go to lake of the isles? Any advice on walleye? i just know they are doing well since the dec decided to end the stocking. Are the Pike and Muskie Populations still struggling or just and does anybody know anything about the chain pickerel would love to catch one up there or just troll the normal deep weeds for pike and get one eventually?I believe the dec said they are starting to find them in their surveys Anything on Lakers in the river or are they on the Canadian side? last year was the worst trip in terms of number of catches
  22. Thank you i will let you know if i get anything when i go out Are these the Flutter Spoons you are referring to?
  23. 2ozs i believe but can vary
  24. Im not a direhard for trolling but if i am with one of my buddies we troll deep for pike (ill throw a daredevle) with my one rod but can't get them deep (downrigger and spinning reels are a disaster) and worry trolling weights would break the rod as it would exceed the rod weight rating as the spoon is 3/4oz and i have broken one before (for more context i got an IRT 200 reel that has been perfect with 20lb power pro maxcuatro because the old reel kept tangling for whatever reason but i still haven't been able to get a fish on it and would like too and the rod is cajun rods Black Bayou™ 845: 7 ft / Med Heavy Power / Fast Action) would planer boards do it or is my rod setup just not going to work with the lure Also I use the weedless daredevle spoons for the single hooks and was wondering if anybody else trolls weedless spoons and whether or not they add split rings or fish it as is and are the weedless daredevles as good as the originals?
