I've been at the same Marina for a few seasons (Salmon Country, great place). Looking for a change of scenery. I've been fishing out of the Little Salmon River the last few seasons, any marina/campgrounds between the Little Salmon and Oswego or North of the Salmon River? I find myself spending more time fishing north of Oswego or up towards Sandy Creek these days. Wouldn't mind a slightly shorter boat ride.

Abrupt Wind Change
RH93 replied to freebird18's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I've gotten caught by a sneaky south wind in Mexico Bay. I make it a habit now to check my Windy app every hour or so while on the water. -
Mexico Bay Reports
RH93 replied to chowder's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Fished yesterday, got the snot kicked out of me. Rough with the wind. Water was pretty warm, 67 degrees at 90 was the coolest I could find. Wanted to go further north, but the south winds were too brutal. Ran into a decent pod of staging kings in 90 foot just north of the power plant. Nothing big. Two smaller males, was good to get them out of the gene pool lol. Caught them all on a UV Caddy Shack. -
Caught this last week, and of course my scale broke. Length is close to 34. Using the bump board for reference, from top of back to bottom of belly is at least 12 inches, girth is maybe 27 inches? Can anyone give me a rough estimate of weight. My previous best is 20lbs. So I'd like to think this is a little larger, maybe 25?

Currently on a north troll just west of the salmon river. 120 FOW. Marking lots of fish. 51 degree water at 90 feet. Just landed a pissed off 25lb king on a green moonshine spoon. Litte bumpy out here, but it's worth it!

Fishing out of mexico
RH93 replied to Captsmate's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I haven't caught a fish yet this season. Will most likely fish near and north of the salmon river today. Have had zero luck fishing west towards the power plant. -
So many Cohos
RH93 replied to rolmops's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We caught a bunch of coho August/September last year on the eastern end. For me I was catching double the coho compared to kings. -

Looking for preferably a new in box Okuma Convector CV-55S (non level wind). Will take used in good shape. I like to run my large coppers on non level wind reels.

Fish Hawk Lithium Multi System, negative reviews wanted
RH93 replied to RH93's topic in This Old Boat
Havent heard anything or seen any reviews. I don't think Yankee Trollers review is for the portable multi system. I'll be buying one shortly and we'll see how it works in the spring. I haven't seen any negative reviews from it yet. It has to be an upgrade from my ancient sub troll. -
What's your opinion of the current state of our fishery?

Yup, I only saw the survey boat on the little salmon river twice this year on my way back to the marina from the lake. Both times I had been skunked and reported zero fish. I fished 25 days this year, and caught fish 23 out of those 25 days. The state should look into a fish harvest reporting app to get a better idea of what people are harvesting out of the lake. I would have no problem logging in the fish I catch. -
Anyone happen to see the picture of the fish High Adventure charters caught this week on the river? I caught a glimpse of it on his Instagram story. Looked well over 30lbs. Wondering if anyone on here had the fish story?

First off, this is the latest I've kept the boat in the water, so maybe what I'm seeing is normal. Was fishing in 100' of water last night just off of Sandy Creek. Every few minutes I would see kings surfacing. I'm used to seeing it in shallower water, and in the estuary. Just find it abnormal to see it that far from shore. The last few weeks I have been fishing in deeper water, and was regularly seeing marks on the sonar going from the bottom of the lake all the way to near surface, in an almost straight vertical line. What's the science behind kings coming to the surface and intentionally coming into warmer surface water temps, when cooler water is available?
