Something I have been doing the last maybe 5 times out is I have been using 10 ft Starfire Dipsey rods for my downrigger flasher rods . I paired them up with Penn 309 reels ( love them for this . Powerfull and good drags . ) The added length in my small boat makes easier netting . Also those rods have soft tips and lots of ass . Very happy with this . 

Solo this morning made netting easier as the extra length compensates for the 54" leader length behind the flasher .
