I am beginning to get lost here hopefully someone can help. Here's the problem- After unloading and a no trouble start with a smooth run to the fishing grounds I begin the troll, troll for several hours without a problem come back to port for lunch and head back out again without any issues at the end of the day run WOT home. Now the next day fire the boat up and begin the same routine however this is when my problems start. Keeping a trolling speed becomes more and more difficult it fluctuates up and down and becomes worst as time goes on until she shuts down. Takes a bit but I get it running again just enough to get back into port. WOT is now not possible. Things that I have done so far: I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump cleaned the fuel line changed the water seperator refueled Using startron ethanol treatment and drygas and still no change any ideas???? By the way it's a 1989 OMC cobra 4.3 the plugs, points, condenser, cap rotor distributor and wires had also recently been replaced.

If the engine sounds good and revs up out of gear, but takes a crap in gear, I'd check the points. I've seen them close down shortly after installation. Maybe the rubbing block wasn't hitting the distributor cam square or whatever, but it's an easy check. They didn't go to electronic ignition for nothing. :D

Thanks for the response my only issue with the points is that the boat will run fine like nothing is wrong then the problem begins let it sit for a couple days and she runs like a champ again

I have a friend with an 8 cylinder(not sure the size), who's motor ran fine, but once trolling for an hour or two, would start to crap on him. Discovered the coil would heat up from trolling, so he repaced the coil, & problem solved. Might be worth a look, or even a bad condenser, which happened to me shortly after installing new points & condenser a few years ago. Good luck
