first year for lake ontario questions

I'm about 1.5 hours from sacketts harbor. Have only fished st Lawrence river near massena Ny. I'm installing downrigers this week and want to Goto the big lake! So where should I drop my boat in at? I'mclueless and just want a good place to fish. I don't mind dropping boat in somewhere else that's not too terribly far. Any advice on starting spot? Id like to catch browns and salmon early and mid summer.

Are you coming from the north or south because that would make a world of difference?
