Try the lake & give Clayton a rest this summer.

Recommended Posts

Name: Cyclops2

Location: Clayton, N Y

I need something bigger than Clayton, N Y river fish. & more than a couple a day.

I used to do the Oswego 30 years ago. Salmon River. Sandy.

Retired & I need a larger daily catch & release count.

I enjoy trolling 100' to 200' of lures.

Really want to operate out of the Cape Vincent port this summer.

I usually take other retirees out & some of the kids also. Will fish within 2 miles of shore then.

What kind of waves does the lake put up during the after noon breezes ? The river does about 1' or 2' at Clayton, N Y.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site. Ya better hang on to your hat when you're out there. The lake can go from 1-2's to 6-7's pretty quick. I don't know the length of your boat, but if it's a small one, pick your days carefully and keep your eyes windward for unexpected weather.

A 18 1/2' Chaparral bow rider with a 220 hp 5 L V8.

And a friends 20' woody Lyman. Restored 4 cylinder crown under 100 hp.

I was in the Chaparral& almost sunk by the bow wave of a passing freighter. the wave hit the rock ledge we were just over. Wave went from 2' to 6' instantly. water ran up to within 6" of the winshield top. Got very lucky as I managed to get going to a panicked full reverse & kept water out of the boat. Bow was stuck in the base of the tallest wave of the group for 6 hours. Seemed that way.
