Mounting a GPS under a hard top

[Bad Habit]

 I was hoping to mount a FF/GPS combo on the under side of my hard top, above the helm. Would I have a problem with the receiving a signal for the GPS if the unit had an internal antenna or do I need to go with an external puck? Thanks for any input.

I have a DSC vhf mounted under the top and it works. Gps has an external antenna.

doesn't DSC work through the VHF antenna? I thought that was how it transmitted.

I have a Lowrence Carbon FF/GPS mounted under my Penn Yan Outrage hard top. No problem with GPS signal strength.

Right. Should have said with GPS also.
