  6. the nav+ that you are referencing is $49.99 for us or 54.99 for U.S. and Canada. can be upgraded thru the free boating app. The Navionics platinum+ for lake ontario is around 200.00
  7. Some added features , changes and updates made to navtronics charts . Yes you need windows 8 and all corrent windows updates. The new nav.+ are awesome. Edit.... Nav platinum +
  8. Raymarine has track on the gps also radar overlay if equipped. The side scan is not all that useful for lake trolling even when fishing boards. It is good for bass fishing and such thou- have used it for them.
  9. Raymarine new units are pretty user friendly and adjustments on screen. So much easier to get to things and make adjustments. They beat my furuno 582 hands down. And yes the chirp, touch screen and pinch to zoom are awesome
  10. Jimski2 - yes they do. When I was just looking to redo electronics Garmin was a big consideration. Tech support with them is also excellent.
  11. So which boat is better Vince viking 35c or rick 10 meter trojan? Vince's okuma's or ricks diawa's the 42' boat I'm have surveyed as we speak must be crap also cause it's not theirs. Both guys are really good guys not knocking them but there is always better! The original post is for a 9 to 10" screen and a multi function display unit. Last statement NO single beam transfucer and give the detail that chirp can!!!! Be it freshwater or saltwater. Have seen and used chirp in both! Garmin and raymarine
  12. You are correct gill-t I followed and watched that warm water also. Also if you followed the Lake Ontario surface currents all summer long no matter which way the wind blew the currents always eddies and then broke dead north off rochester/sandy area then they would turn east/west middle lake.
  13. raven - exactly my point< 26 days without seeing another boat in sight. !2 to 25 mile run out to waypoints and after the first 5 to 7 miles - no boats around. Averaged 20 to 25 fish on everytime out there except once and that day was 12. Honest fish on - tight lined- rod pumping - releases don't count. Our ratio was 2 to 1 average for every 2 steelhead a king would come to the net. yes i think salmon catch numbers down this summer but i feel a number of factors are involved. bait bait and more bait bad winter more pressure on fish - more people fishing, more knowledge (internet etc.) Screwy inconsisent weather list goes on Here is some food for thought.... Let's say that on any given day there is 50 "cacthable" kings in a 2 square mile area. a pack of 7 boats bungee corded to each other working that same 2 mile area averages out to 6 or 7 catch-able salmon per boat. now spread those same numbers out - 4 miles=100 catchable=12-14 per boat my above point is that way to often pack fishing happens and people get lured into it or an area. Which leads often to less productive numbers.
  14. We fished the Canadian fence line off rochester from mid July thru late august and the kings where out there the whole time mixed in (deeper) than the steelhead. Bait was always present and the water temp didn't fluctuate that much as the inside and mid waters did. Some days 60' down other days 100' but the kings stayed there in same few waypoints the entire time. Most days we never set a line or trolled shallower than 425 feet of water! We burned a lot of fuel but that's where the fish where. Talked with a bunch of boats and always same report.... King here or there, one good day on them then three bad days. Not the case way offshore. Different world. When in doubt or searching go north lol
  15. Last one, Wanted to add the chirp on the new ray units has very good target/bottom/structure separation. Detail is very easy to read and know what is what. I can't comment on the sideview - have not used or seen in action. Keep in mind that asking what's best is like anything else everyone has their favorites that fit there needs- be it gps, reels, downrighers whatever. Just don't settle for what "joe says and has" .... There maybe better units out or a unit that is more suited for your needs/budget/expectations
  16. yeah that was my thinking too as i said i ALWAYS had furuno unitrs on all my boats, with the bronze 600 or 1k thru hull/fairing block made by airmar. My 582 unit would mark bait and fish on plane at 21+ mph. BUT as previously stated i researched all options before i purchased the new raymarine unit - The deciding factor was seeing them in action on a 42' post and a 56' hatteras.
  17. reel force - red and orange are the first two colors to "change" / disapper in the water column. I can't remember if it is 30 or 40 feet down that the color turns. As for sharpening them - i use owner hooks and they are razor sharp - all it takes is few passes with a hook file
  18. i had nothing but furuno on all my boats. They are sweet units BUT not sure what your budget is i would look long and hard at the new Raymarine units especialy the MFD A or E series units. They have some features, software, and new toys that are gonna change the game on the fishery. I just bought the new E unit after months of researching. I Will be installing it over the winter but have seen it in action and it beats every furuno i have ever own, seen or used.
  19. Yup red single hook black chrome treble hook tournament tied 50lb. flourocarbon aleast one red bed other chart. or glow on every fly that goes in the water
