  1. The problem with rubber bands is the pieces have an annoying habit of collecting in your bilge, clogging your bilge pump, that sort of thing. The release does the same thing and no crap in the bilge. Tim
  2. Just a stab in the dark here, but I'm guessing Mr. HuntNut is in some way affiliated with myoutdoortv.com and is trying to use this forum as free advertising for his site. Tim
  3. No I meant that there are a ton of small (young) fish around, wasn't really commenting on all the 20" 1 year old fish that were killed. I'm not really happy about that either. However, as scarce as the big guys were this weekend, I don't think it would have made a huge difference, even if culling was allowed, if all you are catching is dinks, you're gonna end up boxing a load of dinks, even if you don't particularly want to. Just curious, who was the observer on your boat ? I'm pretty involved in our local Olcott pen project as well. I imagine Curt is pretty unhappy with the number of what were probably our pen reared fish that were killed over the weekend. Tim
  4. Hey guys, Karen at the Boat Doctors has the final results posted on the www.olcottfishing.com website. Tim
  5. I haven't seen the final standings yet, we took off once it was apprarent we weren't going to finish in the money. We ended up with 188 or so points, probably somewhere upper middle of the Am division. Talk about dink central, luckily we had one go 21.41 lb on day 2 or our box would have been a lot lighter. We didn't even bother weighing it in for the LOC since there's no way that'd hold up til July 20. Good tourny, lots of small fish around, so that should bode well for future years. Congrats to everyone that finished in the money, somehow you guys managed to avoid the little guys better than we did. Tim
  6. skipper. I have the cabela's one on my boat (same as protroll, just rebadged for cabelas). I had determined that I had a rogue grounding problem somewhere on my boat and was throwing a repelling charge in the water. The first 2 years I had this boat, 95% of my fish came on divers and cores, I could count on 1 hand the number of rigger bites I's get over the course of a season. After I put the black box on, my riggers were all of a sudden my biggest producers. I took my old 80's vintage Cannon mag 10's off last year and am only running my 2 Scottys, and with the coated cable on the one for the Depth Raider, I only have 1 rigger hooked up to the black box anymore, but I'd never consider taking it off. I'm convinced it makes my boat fish better. Tim ps, never had an experience like yours though.
  7. Howie, that's your 210 Fisherman right? Another Thompson owner, cool. I've got the 252 hardtop on D dock (almost under the bridge). See you out there. Tim
  8. Team FishStyx is in. Tim B, Bob B (Dad) Adam (Diversion) and our observer. Tim
  9. You don't need it for the ST/DR. They were probably running Cannon riggers and I believe you need to ground the wire so the autostop on the rigger would work. Tim
  10. Beautiful Day on the water, just a light ripple. Had a decent day again, Dad and I went 11/13 with kings up to 17 lbs landed. Lost a BIG mature on the wire diver when it pulled the old jam the leader in the back of the treble maneuver. It was a no-see-um action fly right out of the package with the stock leader. Fish was mid 20's, oh well, that's fishing. Lots of smaller fish today, quite a few shakers. ended up keeping 2 bleeders, a 7 lb steelie and the 17 lb king. Everything was working, chrome silver prism pro-troll and no see um on the wire diver took a couple shots, chrome green doctor/mirage fly on the 200' copper took one. Both riggers were active with stinger NBK and Ludington Specials, both in the stingray size (I'm really starting to like the stingrays) took multiple shots. Stinger coppertone and R&R frog took shots as free sliders. The green water had moved a bit east from saturday, to just east of the water tower and towards the powerplant. 75-115 fow was our best depth, riggers down 40 and 60 and diver out 160 on a 2 setting. Dad's steelie 17 lb King wether looks questionable the next day or two, but we'll be back out prefishing for the pro am mid week. Tim p.s. the steelie had a small lamprey on it that went back in the water in several pieces.
  11. Well, Dad and I got out fishing for the first time this year after dropping the boat in the slip last sunday. We did ok. Just the two of us, so only fishing 4 rods, finished 7/9. Nothing huge, biggest around 14 lbs, but action was steady. We were between the harbor and the red barn all day. Most of our action came in 75-90 fow, other than a double header out in 150 later in the morning right at the edge of the nice green water. NBK Stingray took 2 on the rigger 30 and 40 feet of cable, about 40' leads. 2 also came on that rigger on the free slider (standard stinger, it's a spoon that has been in my box for years, no idea what it's called, but looking at the stinger charts it might be called coppertone, hard to tell from the picture). Chrome prism pro-troll with no-see-um fly took 2 hits on the wire diver 140 back on a 2. The braid diver took 1 hit on a raider bluegrass (one of their new superglow colors) 100 feet out on a 3. The 200' copper took 2 rips on a chrome green spin doc and Atommik mirage fly. Now we just need to find the big guys for next weekend. Tim
  12. Thanks Paul. Ray, all I can say is    Tim
  13. Paul, when I submitted the niagara pro-am registration, I hadn't found an observer yet, so I just listed me and one of the team as our observers (which we would have done had I not found one). I now have one lined up. How do I change the name of our observer, or doesn't it matter as long as we have one to supply? Thanks, Tim
  14. Found an observer, so we're all set. Thanks, Tim
  15. I used spray glue (construction spray adhesive) to glue mine back on, 3 years now and none of them have released. I've had to order replacements from big jon before I learned. Tim
  16. We'll be out there shaking the rust off, out of Olcott. As much as I hate the constant nattering that goes on on 68, I'll program it back into the scan on the radio if that's the one you guys are gonna use. Tim
  17. Jax, This oughta work for you from Bob's Outdoors http://www.bobsoutdoors.com/shop/?shop=1&cat=168 Tim
  18. the only problem with using 68 out west is the fact that every shmo and his brother are yacking on 68 all day long and the nonsensical chatter (both fishing and non fishing related) gets so annoying I've taken 68 out of my scan. Tim
  19. Team FishStyx is looking for an observer for the Niagara Pro-Am. We are fishing in the AM division out of Olcott. The dates are May 31-June 1. We will be pre-fishing most of the week before, you could fish with us on Thursday the 29th and/or Friday the 30th, and then you would be assigned to one of our competitor's boats for Saturday and Sunday where you would act as our official observer on that boat. It is a great opportunity to fish with other guys, learn new techniques and get initial experience in a Pro Am tournament. (Great way to find out if it might be something you want to enter in the future). If interested, please either respond here, e-mail me at tbromund at yahoo.com or call me anytime on my cell phone at 716-998-7396. Leave a message if I can't answer and I'll get back to you ASAP. Thanks, Tim Bromund
  20. Hi dreamcatcher, I'm docked in the Town of Newfane Marina there in Olcott. Yeah I like it there, it's been my home port for years. Tim
  21. We do too. Team FishStyx Also Docked at Olcott, Slip D-10. E-mail at tbromund at yahoo.com or cell phone 716-998-7396 Thanks, Tim Bromund
  22. I use a 13 lb torpedo weight from A-Tom-Mik on my probe rigger. http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ttw.htm not cheap, but with the price of lead these days, you'll get that. Tim
  23. Excellent, couldn't be happier with it (or the fact that the fish hawk is gone ) Tim
  24. well then I think if it were me, I'd start looking for an open circuit, cause you've got a major power drain going on somewhere. Tim
  25. I agree, I have a 10A 2 bank (5A per side) onboard charger on my boat and even with the batteries in serious discharge, it never takes longer than an overnight to get em back to full. Tim
