Well, we FINALLY got out again, (stupid weather this summer). With the full moon and figuring there wouldn't be a morning bite, we decided to do a late start and got on the water around 8:30-9:00. water was bumpy and got worse as the morning progressed, we had good 2-4's with the occasional 5, and then the wind shifted to the SW and the lake laid down to nice 1 footers. fishing was kind of slow, ended up 3/4 all cookie cutter 18-20 lb kings. We went off towards the power plant and had our action right in front of the plant between 85 and 130 fow. All bites came trolling with the waves on the east troll, wicked current going into the waves, too hard to get down speed going west, we were either going 1.3 or 2.9 down on the west troll, couldn't seem to get it to stabilize anywhere in between there. No pattern at all to the bites. We had 1 bite on a chrome/silver prism pro-troll with a no see um action fly, 160 back on a 2 on the wire diver, 1 bite on the probe rigger down 101 ft on a green opti inticer/green crinkle atommik (15' lead), 1 hit and run on the wire slide diver 225 back on a 2 on a dalmation spin doctor/glow wonderbread atommik and I rigged up the carmel dolphin spin doctor/crazy**** atommik that's been so hot this year and set it on the port rigger (non probe) 86 feet down on a 20' lead and it wasn't down 2 minutes before it fired. Temps were ridiculously deep, we had 70 deg down 90 with a sharp break and 56 deg down 100. Didn't matter, most of the bites came up in the bathwater. Fishing the Fairhaven Challenge next weekend with Adam G (Diversion) and my dad. Will post a report when I get back. Tim

I have a couple that are on my primary rigger rods and they rock. Super smooth drags. At $60 a pop, you couldn't ask for a better reel for the money IMO. All my other rigger rods have Penn 209's on them, which are also super reels but the retrieve ratio on the TR200's is a lot better. Tim

Bill, Nice to finally meet you yesterday. Too bad on the tough fishing. I suppose you can take SOME consolation that it's not just you struggling. I can remember some days for me out of Olcott several years ago where we absolutely couldn't buy a fish, but back at port there were people lined up at the cleaning station with full boxes. Now THATS's frustrating. Hope the fish show up in the next couple weeks or it'll make for an interesting if not frustrating Fairhaven Challenge on the 23rd. Tim

I've had good luck with it as well. Walt, one question. what is the standard/stock leader length of the daisy chain setup? I had a bite off (must have been a knick in the leader) right in front of the head a while back. I didn't lose the 3 flies so I rerigged another setup using the flies and another chart bait head, but since then the bite on it seems to have dropped off quite a bit. I wonder if it might be a length thing. I know with the old cut bait setups, leader length was important when targeting the big boys vs numbers of fish. Thanks, Tim

Yup, Chris and Linda took the old Frost Haven, which had pretty much been neglected and run into the ground, put a ton of work into it and brought it back to a really nice resort/B&B. Tim

Tony, the reason for Diversions question above was for the previous 2 seasons, the mountain dew spin doctor with green crinkle fly on a short lead off the probe rigger was money for me. It was my most consistent producer and I cant get it to fire to save my life this year, very frustrating. For me on Sunday, if the blade wasn't chrome, it didn't take a hit. I had the Dew out, green blades, Chart blades, white blades, all nada, only the chrome ones took hits. We caught fish in 80-90 fow and 350+ fow. The 200-300 mid waters were a dead zone for us. Picture and temps sucked out deep, but the fish were there. Lots of big balls of bait and hooks in shallow (80-100 fow), but not many takers. All in all it was a strange day on the lake. Tim

This summer is shaping up much like 2002 was. That summer, the constant screwy winds (mostly NE that year) had the lake tore up all year and it never really set up properly. The kings spent the entire summer on the north shore that year and that seems to be the case agian this year. Look at the GOSD results and there is no shortage of big adult kings up north, especiallty out of ports that don't normally see great king action this time of year. It's almost August, very very soon, the homing instinct will start to take over, and the staging kings will start showing up in front of their home ports, regardless of water temps. Tim

We ended up 4/10. Started in 35-40 fow and set up for browns, nothing happening, absolute bathwater inside, so we headed north and trolled offshore. Started getting some bites in 300+ fow, first was a major adult king on a wire diver that just dropped off after a 400+ foot run. At first it seemed like we were fishing the east end today, I had to put out 140 feet of cable to get 41 deg down temp. Turns out it didn't matter because the fish were up high and way out of temp. all our action came 40-60 down. boxed 2 teenage kings and a steelhead. We finished up back inside in 80-90 fow and took a brown on the rigger and lost another big king on the wire diver during the initial run (not sure what's up with that, the hooks were sticky sharp) Every bite came on a flasher/fly, it didn't matter what brand as long as the flasher was chrome. Chrome/Green and NBK Spin Doctors and Chrome Silver prism and Chrome Green Prism pro-trolls. with a variety of flies, greens and mirage. Riggers at 46, 56 andf 75, divers out 160 and 180, 10 color lead core took one fish. Tim

Tony, it get's deep quick out there, I don't think 100 fow is even a mile out of the piers. I fished for years in a 19' bayliner bowrider before I got the 24' Thompson, It doesn't look like it'll be bad out there tomorrow. You should be fine. I'm probably gonna start in 35-40 fow first thing and see if I can scare up a brown of two before I point her north and troll out to the king zone. Tim

Slapshot, I'll be out in the morning as well. Where to start: most reports I've seen this week are right out in front, between the red barn and the microwave 100-200 fow, 40-60 down should be a good starting point. Good luck out there. Tim

maybe, but on the west side of the lake, a NE wind most certainly causes an upwelling (the lake flips) as well. I don't pretend to understand the dynamics of it, but I know it occurs. I've experienced it often enough. Tim
