  1. Eppinger/Dardevle. The only place I've been able to find them for sale is on Eppinger's website. http://eppinger.net/cgi-bin/index.pl?fs=0&init=1 Tim
  2. Maybe, maybe not. Take a look at the inner diameter of the antenna coil that came with the unit. It has to be large enough to fit the autostop beads through. The original one that came with my DR wasn't so I used one of the 1/2" diameter pickup coils from my black box and that worked fine. last year the antenna broke and the replacement one I got was larger diameter and the scotty beads fit right through. As I'm sure you are well aware, those riggers a just to darn fast to not have the autostop working on em. Tim
  3. Carl, Duolocks are all I run, for that reason. I like the round bend, I believe it give the lures better action. As far as split rings. I run em the way the came out of the package. I gotta believe that the lure manufacturers have done the testing to determine how their lures run the best and package them that way, so who am I to argue. Tim
  4. Of course that's all the DSC funtion is really good for at this point for any of us, since the Coast Guard doesn't have that function operational on the Great Lakes and from what I understand, has no immediate planes to implement it. I have a DSC radio myself and was a little dissapointed to find that out over the winter. Tim
  5. Dave, Thanks for putting that up. Dawn gave me a ticket the day we put the Olcott Pens in the harbor and asked me to scan and post it up on the various internet fishing boards and for the life of me, I couldn't find what the heck I did with it. Next time you see Dawn, please give her my apologies. Tim Bromund
  6. No, never. One of my wire diver rods is going on it's 3rd season with the same knot, never had to retie it. the half hitch at the swivel is really what holds this knot in place, the overhand is just to keep it from moving if there somehow is ever some slack. I can't imagine what could be causing that for you. Tim
  7. Never had that problem, but I do know there is a belt tension adjustment under the lid. sounds like the belt maybe got wet and was slipping. Tim
  8. Ray, appreciate the invite, but unfortunately that's a big old not possible for me. Heck, If I could take the time off work to go fishing I'd probably already have had the time to get the boat in her slip Oh, and its FishStYx , FishstIx is that other guy Thanks anyways. Tim
  9. Duane, quite a few in the low 20's. Joe had 1 prefishing (figures) that went 24, so it looks like size should be pretty good this year. I'm still not in the water yet and it's killing me. i gotta find some time th get the boat into shape and get it in its slip soon. Tim
  10. Dalhousie is on fire. I haven't been out there myself, but they had the spring Scotty tournament out of Port last weekend and lots of big fish being caught. www.spoonpullers.com is a great Canadian based site for information on that side of the big pond. Tim
  11. Shade, My guess is that those fish out in 60-70 were most likely lakers, so you were probably trolling too fast for them. Tim
  12. They look more like emerald shiners to me. Tim
  13. On Thursday May 8th at 7pm the Lake Ontario Trout & Salmon Association (LOTSA) will be sponsoring a Lake Ontario fishing seminar given by Captain Tom Kilmer on Spring Niagara Bar Kings. The seminar is open to the public with a $5 charge for non-members. Call 636-0519 with any questions.
  14. This is the way I have my Thompson set up ('86 Model 252 hardtop but basically the same boat as your 240 Fisherman) Please excuse the condition of the boat in these pics, this was right after I took the tarp off this spring and hadn't had time to wash it yet) Planer reels mounted on the inside of the port and starboard gunwales, at the back of the HT (these are old Wille planer reels from a Mast system i used to have on my last boat) I ran those up to a small sailboat block (pully) at the back of the HT and from there to a spring mounted pully attached to a rail clamp at the front of the HT This worked out pretty well, though with the wood boards I now use from Amish Outfiters, they pull so hard the plastic Wille reels have a hard time pulling them in (I'll probably replace them with the big jon electric planer reels at some point). Tim
  15. Gene http://www.howiestackle.com/index.php?categoryID=8 I've used the malin wire for years and love it. It is somewhat limper than mason wire, which is the other commonly used wire diver line and I much prefer the softer/limper wire. Tim
  16. We got lucky at Olcott. Wednesday the temp was 64 wed evening, but the NE wind pushed a lot of cold lake water into the harbor and cooled it down to 54 by thursday afternoon when the fish showed up, so we were able to put ours in the pens. Don't know how long it's gonna last, but we'll get a little time with em anyways. Tim
  17. more breakoffs on the fluoro? you must have been using vanish. Tim
  18. That's a shame, I know were looking at the same prospect at Olcott, we had mid 50's in the harbor on saturday when we put the pens in and I'm sure this warm weather hasn't helped the matter any. Our's are to be delivered on thursday and I wouldn't be surprised if we end up in the same situation. Tim
  19. Here are some pics of the (now discontinued pattern) Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue Log Perch that i thinks is a pretty good goby imitation: maybe if we start bugging them, they'll bring it back. Tim
  20. I think one of the best goby imitations out there was the smithwick log perch, which, unfortunatley the have stopped making. Luckily for me, I still have quite a few. I'll post a pic later when I get home and can get one in front of the camera. Tim
  21. Chowder, the stretch issue is mainly regarding the ability to trip from the boat. Once you get out much past 140-150 feet, there is so much stretch in the mono absorbing the line it acts like a big rubber band and it can be difficult tripping the diver, so you end up fighting in the untripped diver, at least until you get it in close enough that it'll finally release. Mono divers work fine as far as catching fish is concerned. Tim
  22. Just a reminder the pens are going in Saturday.. Also..... We just got word from the DEC that our 67100 Chinooks and 3500 steelhead will be delivered at 1:00 on Thursday April 24. Once they are in the pens, the babies need to be fed 5 times a day, every day until they are released. They need to be fed at 7:00 am, 10:00 am, 1:00 pm, 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm. If anyone is interested in signing up to feed the little guys (and it's a great thing to bring kids to, they have a blast) you can do it online here: http://www.lotsa.org/olcottpenrearing%2008.htm Check the calendar to see what times are open, Fill out the form and when you I'll get an e-mail with the infor and I'll update the calendar. I update it every night so the marina knows who is supposed to be there. We get awesome support from the Newfane Marina folks, if there is an unfilled time slot the marina personnel feed the fish. If the designated feeder is not there within 15 minutes of the appointed feeding time, the marina people will feed the fish, so if you sign up, please be prompt. You have to go to the marina office to get the bags of fish food and the clipboards for each pen, on the clipboards, you record the water temp (off the digital thermometer there at the pens) any floaters fish activity and that sort of thing. There will be 2 pens on each dock. At each pen take the bag of food, and distribute approx half the bag throughout the pen, go to the next one and do the same, then go back and distribute the other half bags, this is to give the fish time to eat the food before it settles down out of the pen. You just toss the pellets (they'll go right through the pen netting) The steelhead are particularly fun to feed, they are MUCH bigger than the baby kings and a LOT more aggressive. it's like a school of pirhana when you toss the food in the pen. Thanks Tim
  23. Quite a bit of ice in the upper river today Tim
  24. Just a quick correction, the boom doesn't get pulled till there is less than 250 sq miles of ice remaining on Erie, not 25. stupid typos. Tim
  25. yeah Chad, just explain to your wife's cousin that that weekend is bad for you. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to reschedule. Tim
