Cayuga Lake ,The weigh station is at Meyers in Lansing. This is a good little derby to fish . Some real quality fish usually get weighed in.Cayuga lake has had a good bite this year. The National Lake Trout derby on Seneca is May 28,29, 30 Ive got that flier in front of me also.I was heading up to Sampson this morning almost out the door when my fishing partner called me up,sick . Bummer I wanted to see if the stuff I had working on Cayuga would work on Seneca.....

Wanted WTB SnS cowbells
Fishstix replied to Fishstix's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Ive got six sets of hammerheads. They work great but they seem to top out about 1.8.they still work at higher speed but drag real hard. I like to run 2.2 to 2.6 . and throw a few spoons and paddles in the mix. The plastic[MYLAR] bladed cowbells seem to work at the higher speeds with less drag.I could be wrong but I swear they were SnS. Thanks for the responses. -
Looking for a few sets of cowbells with the plastic spinnerblades. I already have hammerheads and lhur jenson metal blades, but the plastic blades seem to be more speed tolerant. 4" or 5" blades color is not real important but glows would be the best. The plastic sets I have now were purchased at Ekerts in Ithaca years ago.Im thinking the mfg. was SnS. Contact me via this board. Thanks Fishstix ....

I think most folks with 1k for a fishing tourney already have a boat. Ive been wrong before. You asked for thoughts and I dont want to start any computer arguements , I think its a terrible idea.............

We did basicly the same thing. We fished that area last couple of weekends and did some really nice fish.Up high. Those weekends were blue sky,hot sun and flat lake. I figured with the overcast of last weekend it was going to be a smokin bite up high. We didnt really mark many big fish up high or low for that matter. Seen lots of bait and smaller fish ,just not the screen we had on past weekends.I personaly liked the derby results of the first day better than the second day but thats fishing. Nice report, glad your keeping kids busy thats much more important than derby results..

B&B Fall Trout and Bass Derby - Day 1 Results
Fishstix replied to 58Johnson's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Ive got bragging rights for one day anyway. We had a pretty good day. Ive never dropped so many fish. Short hits or they would come off just before they broke the surface. Boated around ten fish ,mostly lakers. Fished between Meyers and the plant.Should have done better but I am set up for the bright sun that we fished in most of the summer. Im glad my stuff still worked on a overcast day.Good luck to all heading back up now to get a bigger one...... Anyone on 68 anymore? -
, I will be on 68.I will probably be over 350 FOW. Fishing the thermal if I can find it down around 60 to 80ft. Last Saturday didnt get out till after 2 in the afternoon . Three of us in the boat ran 7 rods and all of them were working.Fished from Meyers north just out of all the boat traffic. Couldnt break 7lbs.on lakers. Couldnt find the big fish high in the water colum. So 240 on the wire was the hot ticket. Did a bonus rainbow 38 down on the rigger on a paddle peanut. Cowbells off the riggers deep did a few fish. Suttons off the cloth did a few small landlocks.Good luck to all during the derby. I just cant decide if Im fishing out of Long point or do the Meyers North thing again.

Anyone got the derby dates? Me and the ole.Williefish are getting in. Got to make our annual donation,or just may take a little bit this year.....

There were three Arimas. I was out Saturday. Launched at Treman ran up to Meyers and set up . Picked up a few fish on a north troll . Cleaned a lot of weeds. Headed across the lake towards the boy scout camp. Headed south. Weeds were not as bad on the west side. Most fish came off divers 100 to 240 out. A few rigger fish and nothing on the cloth.Same program as I mentioned before.I wish I had a camera phone . Had two slob lakers.12 to 14.

Nice report, I launched at Deans cove around 8am . Shot straight across the lake to Long pt and set up, headed north. In about 120 FOW. Caught some fish but cleaned weeds the whole way.The weeds were so bad you never really knew when you put your lures down if they were weeded up or not. There were islands of weeds.Turned around and headed back across the lake. Had a steady pick of quality fish back across the lake and up the shore to deans cove. Leadcore rods with suttons and apexs caught small landlocks.Rigger rods with cowbells and peanuts took a few fish. The spoon rods off the riggers I probably should have left in the cuddy. Star of the day were the wire rods , set out 240 / 3 pulling paddles and spin n glows. The guys I was with wanted to keep fish kept 7 lakers 7 to 11 lbs. Off the lake at 1:00.

Ive got a 21ft Sea Ranger with the skip tower. Its my 4th upgrade in boats . Ive owned it probably 10 years or so.It does everything I want in a fishing boat.I had it up on Ontario probably 9 years and it was great in rough water. The way the hull is desighned it clips the top of the waves off and the back of the boat goes thru.It has a low center of gravity . Very stable in rough water it doesnt rock much. You can reach the water off the sides to wash your hands. Ive got a 115 Yamaha and a 8hp Yamaha kicker. Overall I average 3.5 hours of trolling per gallon. It fishes 4 comfortly. Ive got a tandem axle trailer .. Over the years Ive pulled it with a Honda ridgeline, Ford f150 ,,Im now pulling it with a 4runner . 6cyl. It has a lot of fishing room. You can lock your gear down in the cuddy. Im not sure if they make Arimas anymore.I know they were getting pricey. If something happened to my boat I would buy another just like it. I dont have 2ft ides.Any more questions let me know . I fish the finger lakes now. If you want to go some weekend let me know... Fishstix

Just A thought but Is your transducer mounted on the correct side of the motor ? I know the propwash hitting it will cause all kinds of weird readings. You want to be sure to mount on the downstroke side of the prop and away from any humps or bumps on the bottom of the boat. You want a smooth stream of water .I try to run my transducers way out to the side of the boat otherwise I get bubbles and all kinds of weird stuff from the prop. Im no expert ,but it would seem to me that if it works in one direction and not the other its probably there is probably no problem with the fishfinder . Good luck.

Wanted Old Big Jon es1000 downrigger
Fishstix posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Someone somewhere must have one of these for parts. The mfg. date on mine is 1968. Its the Big Jons with the ball cradle molded into the aluminum base. Last time I ordered parts they were listed as a ES 1000 . My motors are still good but the structure that holds the boom and gearbox are real shakey.I can probably get the parts I need from Big jon but it would cost more than a new rigger. These are the first riggers I ever had . I like em ,they are simple. Must faster than the new Big Jons I have. Please respond on this post. Ill get back to you..I check the board every day or so. -

garmin lakemap contours way off. Anyone else have this problem?
Fishstix replied to Fishstix's topic in This Old Boat
I reread my post . Its not my first GPS. I was just amazed how far off my boat position was on the GPS to where I actually was on the water.I dont have a smartphone to take a screen shot. As far as a error report goes well I probably could but not knowing where I was on the water only the actual depth it would be hard to pinpoint. Tim Im hoping when I get up to Lake Ontario its more accurate. Im hoping the N end of Cayuga and Seneca is more accurate or were going to be loseing gear. Thanks for the responce and I hope to hear from some fingerlake guys... Im not giving up on the unit I cant wait to see what the wrecks look like on downview. -
I just got my new garmin DV 50 with lake maps installed. Went up to cayuga lake Sunday to check it out.I went up the east side of the lake. The GPS would show me being in 20 FOW when I was actually in 150 FOW.I would guess my position on the GPS contor lines were a good 400ft off.I called Garmin and they said I should take screen shots and file a error report.I cant really take any screen shots . I dont consider it my problem to file a error report. I was wondering if anyone has the same problem with Garmin maps. I called the place I bought it from and they said they would take it back. It really does me no good to have a GPS with contour lines that is that far off. My question is: Are all the Garmin maps off that far? How are the garmin maps on Lake Ontario? Is the N end of Cayuga mapped better than the S end? I fish Cayuga ,Seneca and Lake Ontario. I want to be able to follow a certain depth without hanging bottom. Ive got a little Garmin GPS in the car and it works great........

I am responding to my own post. I just ordered a echomap 50DV with lake maps. I spoke directly with Gil from the hulltruth. He says you will be able to operate the 50 right out of the box. Ive seen some screen shots of the downview and they are impressive. If all goes well Ill add sideview in the future.
-
google "The hull truth" Ive been resurching a GPS FISHFINDER this winter. Transducers seem to have as much to do with their operation as the fishfinders themselves. You can learn about the new chirp tecnology, downview ,sideview etc. I was going to go with Furuno but the right map is 300 bucks. Im going Garmin .Very reliable. The best maps. My choice of garmin units are...... I havent purchased yet.... Echomap 50s or Garmin 720s. "Digital oasis" has the best prices.

Its a Jeppesen 4d map of the fingerlakes and LO. It fits a Furuno 1870f and I dont know what else it works in. Just thought someone might have a extra.
