  1. RD nice picture! Thanks I could not find my rubberbands yesterday. I pinch the splitshot on with my fingers. Let me explain what Im after. You know how your trolling along and you mark a big fish high say 20 down. So you run a rigger long and high trying for those big high fish. Then your long high stuff just rots in the water. So you drop your rigger back down and "hellow"another big high fish appears They are the ones Im after. I was thinking maybe down and out was the answer. Ive got a slide diver rig . But I can only run 4 rods . I would not give up a wire dipsey or a rigger rod to run a slidediver.
  2. Copper, pink and orange was the spoon color that took half the fish . The regular dodger fly colors we always talk about did the rest. 80 to 100 ft down. 2.1 sog
  3. I tried a couple different setups off the wires today. I ran out about 100 feet of wire then clipped a lg.splitshot on the wire then clipped the cheater line above it. On the other side I used a stacker releice. Both seemed to work pretty good. I never took a fish off the cheaters on the dipsey wires. But there will be a time when they will work. I like the splitshot better than the stacker less junk in the water.
  4. Blood bath on the Stix boat today. All lakers largest around 9lbs most all keeper size. Dodger flies off the wires. Stinger spoons off the riggers. Still deep.19 fish No brns or salmon. We are going again tomorrow I think they may have moved near shore.May run some boards.
  5. Anyone got any good ideas for running fixed cheaters off the wires? Ive been thinking I should try this as the spoon would be running thru virgin water.I usually run flies off my dipseys. Im thinking if the cheater slides down it will be a tangled up mess. I am going o try rubberbanding them today on the Little lake Cayuga and hope to get something perfected for next spring.
  6. Thanks for posting the pictures. Its good to see someone doing something in Albany . Hee Hee.
  7. As long as the roads are not wet and salted Ill be there. The lake was lowered a lot from the weekend before. It awalys amazes me how fast they can drop the lake levels thats a lot of water to move. We should be running boards. But we are not. They must have dumped a million LL in.
  8. I love these kind of stories . Especially during the holidays. They warm my heart.Tickel my cockles.Keep them coming Actually that same fish was caught twice. The boat had a swim platform on the back with a large cooler. When lifting the cooler off the handle broke and it dumped into the marina. The water was mud brown and we had to fish around with a net to get the fish back.Took about an hour but we got it. I think the derbys give credibility. .I write all these reports but where is the proof?
  9. I can't wait. I just can't wait. I hope I can get some time off beside weekends to fish them.I look forward to these events every year.I have never took a nickel out of the LOC derbys. One of these years it will be my turn.Ive been driving the boat when LOC fish were caught ,Identifed winning fish for guys that didnt know what they had. Had fish caught in boats right next to me. .Seen many winning fish. Could this be the year?
  10. Season LOC registration XM radio service for a yr. 3 pair of fishing socks?
  11. Skeiner nice job. Ya know we been bustin on king me and reel jerks for yrs. It isnt fair. We need some L&M pictures. Anyone got any?
  12. 2.1 to 2.2 sog 2.5 setting on dipsey .dodger fly just a thumpin back there. You can see it working in the end of the rod.41 degree water . I backer off a little.
  13. One of the guys I fish with fishes only Stingers.I think they have their finnish problems straightened out. They do work. I think this spoon is called a parrot. Ive had nks that the clear plastic finnish has come off.Usually if a spoon is chewed up scraped up it means its working. And thats a good thing. I run everybodys everything.
  14. My 3rd try setting up a boat. Dont be afraid to drill holes your going to get a beating when you try and sell it anyway.Actually there is nothing I would change and Ive been running it 2yrs. I could use a couple new motors for my old big jons if anyone has some.Feel free to critisise or ask questions.Lots of little tidbits here even the battery switch can be turned standing on the ground when the boat is on the trailer.
  15. I think nine. They were all small . A few lakers were keepers but not really what we were after. My regular stuff that had been working didnt .I ended up changing to flashy stuff to get the rods going. Wires outfished the riggers . Top fly was a Big weenie artic Ice.Top spoon was a Stinger copper red. It was a great day to be out. In after thought I probably should have ran boards and fished the green water by the inlet. Thanks for the pictures they were great / stay in touch.
  16. A picture a fellow board member took of my boat yesterday. I didnt realize how hard I crank my rods down. I was running 2 riggers and 2 divers. Almost got down to a t shirt when the sun popped out. Ended the day wearing everything I brought. But hell its DEC. 23. Had worst day of fishing since Sept. 9 fish all small.
  17. That is so cool. Ive never seen one like that. or knew they made one like that.Is there tubes in it or is it transistorized? If you decide you dont want to use it ley me know.
  18. Yep pirate is the Mfg. I just could not think of the name this morn. Here I go talkin purple again but their purple glow put fish in the box. When nothing else seemed to work.
  19. Icom 602 . It has all the bells and whistles. You can turn the volume up and actually hear what people are saying. The sound quality is super.I also have the Galaxy antenna. 10ft with extension. I also like the scan feature. Ill program in the frequencies from around the area. and just listen. You can get a scrambler for this unit also, Ive never looked into it.
  20. Long line you are correct. I have a PHD and I didnt realize that. {Post Hole Digger] Got it from Hollenbacks Feed and Coal in Catatonk NY
  21. Great topic but now Ive gotta think. Can I pick 2 per mfg? NK .... black, brass hologram or vampires Stinger.... Tuxedo or Diehards Fishlander..... purple yellow frog [barney] Optimiser.... silver copper black or blue and white R&R.... grape dot watermellon w/ red hooks or pearl and orange Williams.... hammered silver copper Sutton .....88 [bent to run faster] Poonie.. spotted frog Tape.... crushed glow Hooks.... Owner Line... Andes Lake... Ontario Fishing hole... Hughes Marina 77.06 There is another lure mfg. I just cant think of the name right now . they make the crystalina . They make a purple glow also. Could someone help me with the name? All this will probably change next year. Depending on water color ,speed. time of day, time of year and whats out there to fish for. Last year green was a dead color for me. Year before it was the best.
  22. I fish a lot with a guy who is a friend of a Michigan Stinger rep. He runs all Stingers and gets a lot of prototypes for us to try. The shansters, tuxedos,NBK green or yellow ,or the diehards were great spoons last yr. I try to run whats working leaving no mfg. out. I get the best satisfaction out of catching fish on stuff I tape up . Ill paint a bunch of spoons up in the winter and tape them up as I need a certain color. I know for a fact the Shansters have brought many a brn trout to the derby scales.I would run more but Im on a dodger fly kick right now.
  23. Step back non believers.
  24. I also have heard that you can see fish with a thruhull at 30mph.I have no personal experence with this myself. I have always used the transom mount . I think its very important to be able to track your downrigger balls when you are trolling. With the color fishfinders [with experence ] you can tell your downspeed by the width and color of the balltrack.I have a furuno crt if I can't see the downrigger balls Im to fast,If they are bright red Im to slow. A thin green line, Ill catch fish. Now I dont know if with a thru hull your transducer will be to far foward to track the balls.I can also see seaweed slideing down the rigger cables and see my cheaters. Now,something else I dont know about. Will the transducer hit when you are loading the boat on the trailer? Another little tidbit. I know there are quite a few choices for transducers for Furuno. I didnt order mine it came on the boat. But it must have been a wide angle. If I get a stick or weeds up high on the rigger cables it shows up on the screen.like 1 ft down and it shows it. I use 50khz. low frequency. A downfall of transom mount transducers if you back the boat off the trailer and there is ice on the water it breaks the transducers off. I know this from experence.....
