  1. Hey Nick- That's a nice king you guys got!!!! Were the big marks you saw in 160-180 on bottom or up high? We marked a few big hooks out deeper but they were right on bottom. I figured they were lakers. The guys that got kings out of Oswego caught them up pretty high (50-75 down). I think this weekend we're going to spend more time chasing kings. P.S.- Next time you should get a Canadian license and keep on going.
  2. Thanks guys. We fished a little this morning (until 9:30) before work. The brown bite was off somewhat today. We landed a few but it definately was an off morning. I'm not sure if it was the warming water, the fact that there was a TON of bait around, or the crap that is floating all over that kept getting on our lines, cables, and lures. Our brown got knocked off the LOC board (if I could only keep Fishstix off the lake ) but Ryan put a 10lb 6oz steelhead on the board today. I'm almost positive it's a skamania. Long and thin with a left clipped fin and clipped adipose. Bill- are you going to be fishing this weekend? The Oswego guys were catching a few kings. I think if we put some time in out deeper we could do o.k. on them.
  3. I have the internal and haven't had any problems. We have a softtop though. I had also heard about possible problems getting a signal with the internals. I got the internal because I didn't want the additional hassle of mounting the external. I wouldn't be afraid of the internal unless you have a hardtop.
  4. We got out early this am and our first brown hit before we could even get the rod set into the holder. It hit a firetiger smithwick off the boards over 30 fow. The next few hours were very busy with lots of chunky browns. Alewife patterned spoons 25 and 35 down over 40-60 fow. We probably landed 20 browns. Our biggest was 11 lbs, 12 oz and was in 15th place when we weighed it in. The picture doesn't do the fish justice (or me) As the morning went on there were a few reports of guys catching a few kings out deeper out of Oswego. We picked up and ran out to 180 and started trolling towards port. We marked quite a bit of bait out deeper but not a lot of fish. When we got to 80 fow the green protroll/ Siggs Rig Green Apple fly fired (out 180 on a 2.5 setting)and Ryan was into our first major of the season out of Fair Haven. We pulled everything and ended our morning when we got the king in the boat. The perfect ending to a fun morning. A few more pics a double
  5. LJ- Thanks for the walleye reports. One of these nights I'm going to try it in my aluminum boat (the tin can). Keep us posted. Al
  6. Bruce- You will need to install some sort of kicker motor bracket. Don't skimp on this. Cabelas and Bass Pro carry them. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates ... &noImage=0 For steering you connect the kicker to the main motor with an "ez steer" bracket. Then you steer from the boats main steering wheel. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates ... EZ%20steer You will LOVE the $$$$ that the 4 stroke kicker will save you on gas. It's also nice having the security of a backup motor. Al
  7. We got out tonight after work for a few hours. As I was setting the second rigger, the first one pops and we landed this brown. It hit a NK Diehard down 40 over 60. The spoon was down maybe 30 seconds. [/img] About 5 minutes later the other rigger pops (Silver streak purple alewife- down 28 over 60) At this point we are thinking "this is WAY too easy". Then the action stopped. We hunted around fishing as deep as 80 fow and as shallow as 30. We lost a nice steelie at the back of the boat over 75 fow. He hit a black/silve rapala off of the boards. We also had one other rip but dropped it. There was a little bait around but not as much as I would like to see. You couldn't ask for a nicer night on the water weatherwise.
  8. Rich- Great report and pics. PS- you don't eat the walleyes?
  9. My sister sent this pic to me. Their first dolphin experience. [/img]
  10. The brown fishing in Fair Haven is still going strong. They are a little deeper now. We fished from 30 to 70 with our best luck coming 45-60fow. Alewife imitation spoons down 30 to 45 took most of our fish. We caught a few off of the planers on Smithwicks with some large splitshots to help get them down a little more. We landed 14 browns and two steelies today. All of the browns were nice and chunky. They seem to be getting bigger by the day. Our biggest was a hair over 10 lbs on the digital but it wouldn't last on the board and we really hated to leave to weigh it in. She was part of a triple. After a quick pic we let her go. [/img] We also caught out first king of the year out of Fair Haven. Not exactly the LOC winner though. Surface temps were around 58 degrees. Our best speed was 2.2 or 2.3 at the ball. A lot of the browns were puking up alewifes. A few more pics from the day: Brown with a friend Ryan with a Steelie
  11. Tom- here's a few in Sodus. http://vacationrental.com/vacation-rent ... -York.html
  12. Caught in Colorado. That's one BIG fish. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/13 ... &qs=1;bp=t
  13. We got up to the boat this afternoon. It's been a few weeks since we've been up. I was hoping to find a king or 2 so we ran out to 170 fow and set up. We worked 170-300 for a couple of hours. Our first hit was a steelie on a white spin dr/sigg's rig green apple fly out 150 on the wire over 250 fow. We also had a rip on a flatlined firetiger smithwick but that fish got off. We had 44 degrees down 30 out deeper. It was pretty slow out deeper and we didn't mark many fish so we decided to run in and fish the last hour or so for browns. We ran in and worked 18-35 fow West of port and caught 5 browns and a bass. They all hit spoons off the riggers (nbk and a black/silver stinger). The action picked up as the sun went down and it was pitch black when the last fish hit. [/img] [/img]
  14. Bob- Congrats on the new boat!!! The fish don't know it yet, but they are in trouble now. Good luck with her!!!
  15. Nick called me Friday afternoon and said his boat was in Wilson and we could come out and fish if we wanted to (easy decision). Saturday morning headed West out of port and setup. It didn't take long for the green protroll/green fly to fire and it also didn't take long for us to lose our first nice king. That setup, out 200, was our most consistent producer for the day for the kings. It was the only wire we could get to fire. The best setup for the cohos was a Carlson orange crush cheated off the rigger. We worked 200-280 most of the day. Action was really good early and we ended up 7 for 12. The cohos seem to be larger this spring than they were last sping. [/img] I love spring browns but it certainly felt good to feel the pull of a king again. Thanks Nick!!!!
  16. kerchner- I have the same boat. I think you want more horse power. 6 would be fine if the lake was flat but you would have problems when the lake gets a little rough. 9.9 works great for me.
  17. Milking it!!! Nice birds Redneck Yacht!!!! I smell turkey dinners. Way to go.
  18. YT- You didn't enter the 22+ lb salmon in the derby? That would of been top 5 or 6, right?
  19. It's a little late for smelt. Mid April is best.
  20. Musky- Ditto what Shellback said. I hope The fish Gods reward you for the good deed.
  21. Hey Nick- I know you're not a big lake trout fan.... but if the kings aren't there yet they are better than a sharp stick in the eye. Good luck the rest of the week.
  22. We got a late start this am (a long story) and ran East away from the pack of boats that were allready working the pond outflow. We never found any big concentrations of fish. One here, one there. We ended up 7 for 8 on browns with an additional nice smallie. The bite really seemed to shut down once the sun got up for a while. Two fish came off the rigger (Billy V Grape ape, down 5). The rest came off Smithwicks off of the planer boards. Most fish came in shallow (10-15fow). We had a friend onboard who is a big inland stream trout fisherman. He had never fished Lake Ontario before. When we boated the first brown (average 3-4 lber) he couldn't believe we were calling it small. He was very impressed with the browns. I don't think he liked the lamprey that was attached to one of them as much. We tried to convince him that is a Lake Ontario tradition to attach the lamprey to your forearm for good luck on your first fish. He wasn't buying it even though we gave him our best sales job. The water is really clearing up. Even around the creek mouths. We could use some rain.
  23. Ron- Last night the action started to pick up a little as the sun started to go down. I think you will do well in the afternoon if you stay out later. Smithwick Rattlin Rogues in firetiger, black/silver, and blue/silver have been working best for us. I'm positive any stickbaits will do just well because the fish are really gorging. Channel 8 and 68 seem to be popular. We will be out tomorrow am and possibly Sunday am. Good luck. Hope to see you out there. Al
