  1. Bill- keep the great reports coming. I've been stuck working and the reports are helping me from going crazy. They are appreciated. Al
  2. Nick- We've been running them about 15' off the ball. The flys are about 23" off the board.
  3. Matt- We love the flys. They work. Tim- We started straight out and worked West a little. White and green echips. Sigg's green hypnotist, Green Apple, and White crinkle each got hit. Good luck when you get out. Bob- lately we can't get a spoon to work so I've been running all flys. I was happy to see good temps at only 90 down. Last week I read it was 130-140 down. It sure makes it easier to catch them if you can get your lures in front of them.
  4. I received the new part for our broken EZ Steer bracket so we ran up and put it on the boat. We ran out front and fished from 4:30 to 6:30. Worked 130 to 170 fow. We found good temps down 90 feet and went 3 for 3. All three hit echip/Siggs flys. One off the rigger, down 90 over 130. The other two came off the wires (out 285 and 325). Not much bait around tonight. [/img]
  5. More on this tragic story- Man dies after boat capsizes One man died Saturday morning after his fishing boat capsized in Lake Ontario about four miles west of North Pond in Sandy Creek. Nearby boaters rescued his friend. Glenn R. Santos, 68, of 7 Leo Drive, Granby, Mass., was pronounced dead at Oswego Hospital. His friend, Raymond Hanley, 68, of 16 Hurlbut Road, Mexico, in Oswego County, survived the sinking. State police Investigator Scott Harrington said the two men left Brennan's Beach in Ellisburg Saturday in Santos' 26-foot Robalo boat to go fishing. He said the two were longtime acquaintances and frequently fished on Lake Ontario. The boat developed engine trouble, Trooper Jon Pelton said, and began taking on water over the stern about 8 a.m. The Coast Guard later reported seas of 1 to 2 feet with winds of 10 to 15 mph at the time the boat sank. The water temperature was 71 degrees. As the boat was sinking, Harrington said, Santos managed to send a distress call, which was received at 8:10 a.m. by the Coast Guard station in Oswego, then swam clear as the boat capsized. Hanley clung to the overturned boat, while Santos grabbed a cooler to stay afloat. Boaters who saw the boat sinking pulled Haley from the water, and one man swam to help Santos. "When (he) swam over to him, (Santos) sank beneath the surface," Harrington said. The investigator did not know how long Santos remained underwater, but boaters found him and, unable to lift him into their boat, held him beside the boat until a Coast Guard boat arrived. The Coast Guard took Haley and Santos to Sandy Pond Marina and Campground. The crew performed CPR on Santos en route to shore. Santos was taken by Northern Oswego County Ambulance to Oswego Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy. Hanley refused treatment, but was later taken by private vehicle to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Harrington said the death appeared to be accidental. No charges were filed. Boatswain's Mate 1st Class James Roddy said a salvage crew would be sent to retrieve the capsized boat.
  6. One dead as boat capsizes on Lake Ontario A boating accident this morning on Lake Ontario has claimed the life of a Massachusetts man. State Police in Pulaski identified the dead man as Glenn R. Santos, 58, of Granby. Troopers said Santos and Raymond J. Hanley of Mexico were fishing on Lake Ontario when their boat began taking on water and capsized. Fishermen responding to their radio distress call were able to pull Hanley onto their boat. Rescuers in a second boat held Santos above the water until the Coast Guard arrived. The Coast Guard pulled Santos from the water and transported him to shore. He was taken by ambulance to Oswego Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
  7. Steve- I'm not sure if or when we might be up but I'll try to get ahold of you when we do get up. Yea Bill- we came in at dark and hung out in the bay until the fireworks were over. We had to almost troll through the bay. There were quite a few boats out there with no lights. Anybody know what all the red lights lit up all over are about?
  8. It felt good to finally get on the water after an almost 2 week break. The lake was pretty bumpy when we first got out but it got a little better as the night went on. We worked 100 fow out to 270 but did best in 100-120 fow. We couldn't get our wires going. We only got one rip on the wire and we dropped it. The Moutain dew spinny/ Sigg's rig green hypnotist down 82 was our best setup. I think we had 7 or 8 hits on it. We had a terrible start but finally landed a fish on our 7th bite. The fleas are getting BAD. We didn't see a whole lot of bait around. We ended up with a good night dispite the slow start. [/img]
  9. Brian- Congrats on the nice brown. I totally agree on the amature boat name thing. It would seem an amatures $25.00 is just as good as a charter boats $25.00. Didn't fishstix say something about he got them to put his name on the board somehow? We tried but they didn't let us. Another rule I don't care for is the fact that you can only have one fish on the board at a time. My son and I both have a steelhead and a salmon that were big enough to be on the board. They only let you keep your one higher placing fish on the board. So if you have the 2nd place king AND the 5th place brown, you will only get a check for the king. The brown won't even be on the board. I would like the rule to be one fish per catagory (ie: one brown, one salmon, etc) as I can kind of see the point of them not wanting somebody to have several spots in any one category. Al
  10. lol Ray- the only thing you forgot was two 125 quart coolers. One for fish and one for drinks. That seems like a good price. I almost paid $ 100.00 for the last set of oars I bought.
  11. Tim - Nice king!!! Unfortunately you still can't enter a fish if you are solo. You need at least 2 entered people on board.
  12. Steve- we didn't get out either on Saturday. Sunday they were predicting 1 to 3 building to 2 to 4's so we didn't get up until I saw the lake was flat on the webcam (noonish). I tried your cell when we got up. I'm done for a while now Bill. Hopefully we'll be able to sneek up sometime this weekend. Are you fishing this weekend?
  13. We ran up this morning and patched our broken ez steer bracket up with duct tape and rope (redneck engineering). We ran out to 150 fow and setup for kings. They were still there. Echip/Sigg's rigs flys out 270-330 on the wires and down 80-125 off of the riggers. We landed 4 nice kings, a 12 lb skaminia, and a brown before we had to call it quits. We dropped quite a few salmon also. One broke our wire and took everything. One broke the line at the hook, and several others just came unglued. We weighed two more fish in today for the LOC. A 20 lb 12 oz king and a beautiful 12 lb skamania Lots of bait and hooks out there. I heard a charter out of Oswego that landed a 25lb king but they were not entered. The brown guys also sounded like they were doing well. I thought it was late August out there the way the kings were hitting.
  14. Tom - are you sure they weren't on there and just didn't pop the release? We had one today do the same thing you described. I assumed that it was on there but just didn't pop the release. Al
  15. Here ya go Nick. Anybody can catch kings and trout. 24 inches.
  16. We didn't get out until noon. Not really the best time to start fishing. We ran right out and setup for kings in 125 fow but didn't do anything for an hour or so. So we ran in and started picking away on the browns. Same old -same old. 60-70 fow, spoons down 40 to 60. Then I talked to Bill who was pounding the kings. I think we had our brown rods out of the water in record time. We ran out to 180 fow and within 10 minutes we were doubled up on the wires. Green Echip/ Sigg's Rig Green apple out 280 and Silver Echip/ Sigg's Rig Blue dolphin out 320. I grabbed the wrong rod and landed an 10 lb king. Ryan grabbed the right rod and landed a 21lb 7 oz king 13th place in the LOC when we weighed it in. Shortly after getting set back up the White spinny/ Sigg's white crinkle (down 90) fired and we were into another brute. I fought the fish for a good while and knew it was a BIG boy. The fish got into the wire and cut the line. Shortly after our ez steer bracket broke and we were almost out of gas in the big motor so we had to call it quits.
  17. I don't know if I can answer all of those questions but I'll try a few of them. Right now there aren't a lot of salmon around. If you want to give them a shot anyway start in 90 fow and work deeper. The salmon fishing is slow at best right now. Dodgers/fly combos or spoons. Right now the brown trout fishing is very good. They will be your best bet. Get out early. 35-70 fow is probably where you will want to be. Read the past reports for more details. Stop at Screwy Louies. They will give you up to date info also.
  18. Screwy Louies in Fair Haven sell them pretty cheap. I bought a couple last year it seems like they were $20.00 or less each. I know they were WAY less than what bass pro sells them for.
  19. Stix- 17lb 12 oz is a pig of a brown. Congrats to Charlie!!!!
  20. Like fat kids on a hoho? lol. Any chatter on the radio about kings from the Oswego guys? Good to see you get back out there. Al
  21. I think it's a skamania. They are supposed to be longer and thinner. They also have a clipped left fin and clipped adipose. I wouldn't know the difference but Ryan read it somewhere and mentioned it when we got it in the boat. The guy weighing it also said it was one. He said they only see a few each year.
