Twelve lb Mono for Kings, no thank you! Probably a great fight but I cant imagine fishing with 12# through july and august. Light line may put more fish in the boat but i think a better setup can be achieved with fluorocarbon leaders. My spoon set up consists of 20lb Mono main line with 20lb fluorocarbon leaders when kings are around.

There is no better tip then tying leaders with a fly tying vise. Its a great help. Dont short yourself by using mono instead of fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon has proven itself to be unmatched in its performance and durabilty as leader material. Fluoro may be harder to work with but in the end it will be worth it. Make sure you keep your knots wet. Fluoro has very little short term memory so make sure to keep constant pressure on the line while tying. Choose a quality fluorocarbon line (my top choice would be Blood Run). Another thought is, if your only using a single hook then i would suggest a palomar knot. Unmatched break strength and certainly easier to tie. -

My replacement hook is VMC 8540BN. Discovered the hook while i was trying to eliminate the "hodge podge" of replacement hooks on the boat. Now everything on the boat has them. Spoons, plugs, sticks, flies, meat rigs. Premium hook that wont break the bank. Chemically sharpened, cone cut, vanadium steel, black nickel finish. available in all sizes. Extremely sharp out the box and reasonably easy to resharpen.

fyi...Line counter reel is not necessary for copper A berkley line counter is only used for putting the desired amount of copper on the reel for the first time. You should never use a reel line counter to do this job because it will not be accurate. -

Before you make a decision and a purchase I think it would be important to decide what depths you hoping to fish with your setups? Im an Okuma guy. So my setups are Okuma Clarion CLR553LS w/ Okuma Classic Pro GLT copper rods (cp-cl-862m). And definitely run boards. They will give you a chance to run multiple setups and get them away from the boat (out of the way and out of trouble). -

I would have to agree. I personally have Berts on my boat and they really are great but the cannons are that much better. -
Actually twice this past deer season. I startled a couple of dogs walking to my tree stand one morning. they circled behind and followed me to my stand in the dark. A week prior to that i had 7-9 coyotes come out of the thicket right at dusk, and about 25 yards from my stand played host to a violent royal rumble. The dog fight went off and on for 5 minutes or so. I couldnt see much of what was happening but there was plenty of growling and snarling. After it ended the dogs split in all directions in the woods. It made for an loooooooong walk out of the woods.
