  1. I have a tank full of emeralds now and today if things go well I will search the nearshore edge of the humps off Evangola.
  2. Seven boats out for perch yesterday reported poor success in waters from seventy feet to fifty seven feet. A few scattered schools appeared on the screens occasionallly. It looks like the deep water perch have scattered. With the water temperature dropping, the perch may be in closer to the shoreline and we will save on gasoline.
  3. Well the Vernal Equinox blow should be over, the past two weeks have churned the lake up pretty good and the water temperature has dropped. The late summer deepwater perch schools should be scattered near the shore and we will not be burning a lot of gasoline to find them again. Let's get out there again and if you have good luck, let us all know.

    Second Anchor

It is the rope and not the weight that holds the bottom. The angle pulling your hook is what holds the bottom [ Post made via Android ]

    Salted Minnows

Here is how we have done it for fifty years, before the VHS rules that limit your use of salted minutes. Drain the minnows in a collander and then spread them out on some newspaper to soak off more moisture. Place a handfull of minnows in a sealable sandwich plastic bag. Sprinkle couple tablespoons of salt in the bag, shake it up and seal the bag. Make up up several bags and put them in another larger sealable bag and freeze them in your freezer. The salt may kill the VHS stuff but it may not. When taking them from the freezer keep them in a cooler with ice, like a six pack cooler is fine. The ice will keep them shiny and firm till you need them. They will last an hour or so before turning soft and mushy after taking them out of the iced cooler bag. With the high price of bait now and the need for bait especially in late summer when availability of fresh live minnows are hard to come by you will have a chance at the deepwater perch schools. Use the minnows in waters where they came from due to bait transportation rules outlined in the DEC Regulations.

  9. Unharvested perch and white bass are a greater threat to walleye reproduction than size limits and catch limits. Do us all a favor and take some perch home also. [ Post made via Android ]
  10. Trickle chargers can kill a battery, it just takes longer. Use distilled water only as the calcium In tap water ruins the acid. The three stage chargers are the way to go, my battru is plugged in 365 days a year, never needs water and is five years old going strong. [ Post made via Android ]
  11. A lot of perch being taken lately at the 65 foot contour. It seems that is where the bottom meets the thermocline.
  12. The fittings sold by West Marine continue to develop leaks at the tank. After changing half a dozen female fittings, I installed a different male connector on one of my tanks. It worked and I feel the problem is in the male connector sold by West Marine as it cuts the O rings with sharp edges in its machining. So replace the leaking connectors with OMC factory parts and save yourself a lot of headaches.
  13. A good launch is at Port Colborne. This time of year the stickbaits are needed as the perch and silver bass do a job on the worm harnesses. Going into Canadian waters over the bridge is a good idea to avoid the Terrorism trouble guys.
  14. I am not sure of the chart chip, but it gives nearby depths and contours well. The Canadian border could be marked by a faint pink line on one screen only. My older plotter has a better border line and it displays the GPS numbers on the screen. So I keep them both running and they are still ok so far.

  18. Your fault for not getting there earlier. State employees are trained to make you wait. [ Post made via Android ]
  19. Anchor in seventy. Foot waters needs a line longer than two hundred feet or longer. The weight of the anchor need not be heavy or a chain is not needed. A five pound mushroom anchor works well and a light Da.forth anchor is also good. Perch are at 65 foot. We took 60 keepers yesterday off Evangola. [ Post made via Android ]
  20. Why hunt deer when the best perch and walleye fishing is on during bow season? [ Post made via Android ]
  21. While carousing at the Home Deepockets store, there is available a water resistant decking material that installs like a Pergo Type floor. Any thoughts?
  22. Today the thermocline fish schools moved out to 79 foot of water. Old timers came in with 32 perch after searching a lot of water in lake Erie. Frozen emeralds with salt worked. .. [ Post made via Android ]

  24. If you make a lot of turns be ready to find a pile of spaghetti with ten colors out. We keep it down to five colors and a snap weight to reach deeper. Big thumper spinner blades do a job on lead core.also so use good swivels. In line planer boards on the inside of your turns are a real problem. It seems straight line steering is really a good deal.
