  1. TIG welding on the aluminum worked for me and another fellow. Thin aluminum is tough to weld. Another way is another piece of aluminum riveted over the crack with some sealing compound between the parts can work. It is called a "boiler patch". The crack also may be drilled with a small bit at the ends of the crack to keepp it from extending. Do not use pop rivets, solid rivets and set the rivets with a rivet set before peening them over. A double row of rivets around the edges will work . Use a small bolt and nut temporarily to pull the pieces of aluminum together in some of the holes. The drill for making the holes must match the rivet diameter so when the rivet is set, it does not spin in its hole.
  2. Striped Bass fishermen trolling a gang of eels use a similar rig along the New England Coast.

  6. The two largest NY State walleye record fish were caught before March 15 using twister tails in the Allegany River Reservoir just below Salamanca. According to a Reservation Biologist, the walleye do not spawn in the mud bottom of the reservoir but could be staging there to go upstream into the river where there is a lot of rock and gravel bottom.

  11. Wilson had a Marina and the Yacht club looking for boats at the Bills Field House Boat Show last week. Nice places and closer to the Bar.
  12. Identity theft is rampant, be careful with this stuff. Even in your profiles.
  13. The warmest water at this time of year is on the bottom, 39+ degrees, but as daylight increases the perch will migrate closer to shore to ready for spawning on hard bottom areas. We have caught early perch among the floating ice stuff over rocky shorelines. Warm sunny days will warm the streams up and draw the fish in close.
  14. 14.6 is your voltage, not amperage. When it reaches 14.6 volts, your batterys are fully charged.

  20. For every six inches of elevation above the water, and with good weather conditions you gain one mile of reception. A helicopter can receive your handheld signal though and the USCG has an antenna on a ridge above Lake Erie that can reach from Detroit to the St. Lawrence River. Also the local USCG stations have elevated antennas. The point being if you want to reach a nearby boat or unit, use a standard antenna.
  21. The Southtowns Walleye Club will hold their perch contest that day at their clubhouse, S-5895 Southwestern Boulevard, Hamburg, NY. Top 5 perch weighed in will win with prizes subject to "luck of the draw". The next club meeting will be Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Clubhouse.
  22. The last two New York State record walleyes came from the Kinzua Allegany River reservoir below Salamanca, NY. They were taken before the spring walleye season closing on March 15. Talking to a Seneca Nation ECO the other day, he checked the last winner angler for his license a couple hours before he reported he caught his winning fish on the Mystic Lake?. The point is that if you are interested in going for a chance at a 16 pound walleye, then get down there then before the fish spawn out. Seneca Nation fishing licenses are available for use on the Allegany River and Lower Cattaraqugus Creek. These licenses expire January 1. A tremendous amount of fishing opportunity for you with little competition for space. Wallleye, bass, muskys, carp are easily caught in the Allegany and a walleye hatchery is being constructed on the reservation now. The Cattaraugus system is noted for its great Steelhead fishingin the fall and spring. License costs are $45 for non Seneca adults and $15 for Senior over 65 citizens .
