  1. I saw a fish tug in Canada get its diesel fuel filters clogged up by a black slime. Apparently water in the fuel is where bacteria or mold grow and this black stuff like the mold you see on your Vinyl when the boat is covered too tight, grows in your fuel tank, feeding on the petroleum product and your filters are loaded with this black dirt that is actually mold particles. There is a biocide used by the tug engineers to prevent this growth in the fuel tank.
  2. Walleye on Lake Erie are everywhere, the problem is landing them. Harnesses, stick baits, lead core, inline planers, snap weights, $1,000 graphs showing them 30 to 40 down, dynamite and the results suck. Plenty of perch and good eating also. Gasoline costs are down also.

  4. We fished 67 foot of water today between Port Colborne and Point Breeze. between noon and 3:00PM the theree of us landed 79 nice perch, one seagull feeder and no gobies. Using emerald shiners from the Ferry Street Dock we ran out of bait, thank God!
  5. http://www.buffalonews.com/business/bus ... 561197.ece Well, isn't this something.
  6. I left the vent open on my portable plastic tank and found a few weeks later that my Cannon Downrigger laying on the carpeting was fused to it. Spinner beads were stuck to the rug also. It seems the alcohol has a solvent property to some plastics and it vents itself out through the open vent. So you will lose the alcohol in your tank as it must be more volatile to evaporation than gasoline. This must be why the water is there after a long period of time. So either close your vents if you can or be willing to lose the alcohol in your tank that you paid big bucks for. The gasoline companies say their gasoline is no good after a couple months also. Your automobile has a "check engine light" that comes on when your gas cap fails to seal properly and there is an expensive plastic check valve in the neck of the fill piping to release excess pressure.

  9. Metal tanks should be filled according to my dealer. The reason being air and metal cause particles to form that plug up your filters and injectors. Plastic tanks should be near empty. More importantly, use Stabil Blue Additive in the proper amount as to have a safe supply of gasoline in the spring. Lawn tractors and other machines that have vented tanks need the Stabil Blue as they are having fuel problems also. Drain the lower units as metal particles will flow out now better as they settle out and do not flow out in the spring. Refill immediately, check your prop for fishing line wrapped around it that will destroy your seal.
  10. We saw alot of hooks at 30 to 40 down Wednesday. All the charter boats in Erie have a lot of stick baits hanging from their poles if that means anything now that the water is cooling down to walleye temperatures.
  11. Wednesday we picked up 23 perch in two hours off Lotus Point, 66 foot of water. Pinhead Emerald Shiner minnows , 2 on a hook worked well. Slow picking except when the school came by, then a couple double headers, then another wait. Nice fish.

  13. I have had squeeze bulbs fail on me but I would bet money it is the filter gasket.
  14. Many of the larger Yellow Perch we pull up from deepwater are expelling mussel remains. The smaller perch are expelling spiny fleas, go figure.
  15. Walleye stocking is done thanks to the Niagara River Anglers Association. http://www.niagarariveranglers.com/
  16. Boat dealers and lawncare dealers are swamped with repairs for the gasoline problems. Anyone with an open to the atmosphere gasoline tank is in trouble. The video may be staged as the evaporation accelerated by the fan and the open container cools the container excessively due to the high humidity atmosphere that is present on a waterfront location causing a lot of condensation but it is what is happening especially an colder nights. Metal gasoline tanks are subject to corrosion when empty and that corrosion particles will plug up your filters. Plastic tanks with minimal gasoline are best for storage as the expansion is minimized to allow condensation of atmosheric water. You must use an ethanol treatment additive or you will see a lot of downtime when you use your boat on your weekend off from work.

  18. It would be good that we could have our legislators amend this ethanol foolishness by having ethanol free gasoline sold here. The damage and repair costs from this act is putting a lot of boating and related businesses in harms way.
  19. http://www.petelandrysrealgas.com/ 15% ethanol is even worse.
  20. When the water temperature drops to the mid 60's, the perch will be back in the bays.
  21. It is interesting to say that the Commercial Fishery is devastated. The DEC and sportfihing lobbies have done everything in their power to encumber the commercial fisherys for the past twenty five years. now public sympathy is sought from a greater share of the public for an answer to a problem. Remember that today 80% of the seafood consumed in the USA is from foreign nations and now you complain about the high price of gasoline when it is our dollar that is worthless.
  22. The main engine lower unit assists in your steering as it turns the sae as your "kicker" engine.
  23. Crackhead Tackle Shop has good deals. Actually it is our tolerance of the drug trade and the crimes it causes is the problem. Not enough arrests are made soon enough so we suffer with the security of our property. It seems the police know who the druggies are, they just wait for all their connections are identified. Meanwhile we suffer the thievery. Then their is our unemployed youth who see opportunity with all our Asian made goods and they can not make a living with a decent wage here. End "Free Trade" now.
