  2. The past couple days a couple boats came in with 50+ boxes of large perch, mostly spawned out females over 12 inches. They were taken in 54 feet of water off Sturgeon Point in the mud bottom with emerald shiners. Moving in closer on the shale banks yielded a lot of gobies and bass. The bite seemed to stop arfter 11:00 AM.
  3. We now have LED lights powered by AA batterys that are just right for hanging from your soft top. Lots of light, long battery life, easy to install, no wiring, just clip them to your tubing. Available at Marine supply and hardware stores.

  5. Try running the kicker on a portable tank to eliminate the fuel line questions.
  6. In the 1950's the smelt were so bad we called the lakes the "Dead Lake" and when these critters take over here we will not think this is very funny. The "electric barriers" on the Chicago Ship Canal are just a bunch of BS and sooner or later we will have to deal with their presence. Be ready to trade in your boat for golf clubs or something else.
  7. The view from the Buffalo Skyway Bridge showed cleaner water in the Canadian side of the head of the river, but the American side of LakeErie is like a chocolate milkshake color. And this morning it is still raining all night.
  8. Do not pay the Canadians if you are not in Canadian waters. There is a legal question on their operation here. Be careful on your 911 calls, the Canadian systems pick them up as their government allows a stronger signal system and you may get a Canadian Operator that will not know anything about your area. Tell them that you are in New York State and you will be transferred after a delay.
  9. The payment book pages will buy you a lot of gasoline so why not live with the old rig and cry all the way to the bank with the money you are not spending on a new truck. The old truck does the job when you need it, keep it and if you need better mileage for commuting, get a car.

  11. Four Mile Creek State Park has campsites. Seneca Niagara Casino will take your money to go home with.

  13. The Tiger Musky is a good predator of smaller perch and keeps the lakes biomass in check. Too many of our youngsters do not take fish home to eat and we are ending up with masses of stunted down perch and others. The end result is a boom and bust fishery where all the future year class recruitments of all species are destroyed and the fishing is ruined except for occasional burst of good fishing. These seven to ten year cycles of good years of fishing are not needed.
  14. The Bay of Quinte in Ontario yields some of the largest walleyes anywhere and since it connects to Lake Ontario these oversized smelt and alewife eaters must feed in the main lake during the warm water season. Someone will figure out where they are in July and August someday.
  15. The lake is almost free of ice but the river is solid ice from the Buffalo Main Light down to the North Grand Island Bridge. Here it comes lower river guys.

  18. More wind turbines will slow down the rotation of the earth and make our work days longer.

  20. TV2 reported this morning the boom will start to go out this afternoon, probably when the winds subside The ice bridge below the falls has gone out also.
  21. http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/communit ... p?t=170143 Water temperatures in the low 40's, note the purple colors.
  22. Saturday my buddies picked up good numbers of perch on plastic tube baits.
  23. If there is an audible beep when you turn the key on, you have a temperature alarm. The beep indicates that it is operating. I disabled my alarm once because the oil reservoir level switch was going screwy. Would not you know it, I picked up a clump of seaweed in my lower unit that blocked the water intakes and I cooked the power head good enough to get a new boat and engine.
  24. http://www.adn.com/2010/09/30/1480077/s ... ed-on.html Things can get out of control at times.
  25. I let the sinker sit on the bottom and hold my rod in my hand to keep a little bend in the rod tip. My snelled hooks are tied to the braid with a Palomar knot. This gives a solid connection to the line for sensitivity unlike snaps and swivels. The snelled hooks have a stiff monofilament that sends back sensitivity to my graphite light action rod to feel the perch inhale and crunch the minnows.
