  1. I also own a 32 foot Marinette that has set on the dock for seven years now. The cost of fuel to run it anywhere cuts down my fishing time. I have a 14 foot Grumman for inland lakes also. it is easy to tow. As a presidential candidate said to win the election, "it's the economy". My 18 foot Crestliner with a 90 HP motor, 10 HP Honda trolling motor, burns 6 to 9 gallons a day for eight hours on the water trolling. I leave my boat at a campground on the waterfront with a ramp, but many days we hook up and run to Barcelona, Dunkirk or Lake Ontario. The cost of towing is only a couple MPG.
  2. Your problem is the boat. Get an 18 foot aluminum boat like a Lund or Crestliner and you can tow it with a six cylinder F 150. Your daily driver use will be better. If it is too rough out there for the 18 footer, it is too rough. The world has changed in the past twenty years and our economyis like it was 70 years ago when a 14 foot boat was all the average Joe could get.
  3. As the season goes on, the snow piles up on the ice, the dissolved oxygen levels on the bottom of the lakes decline and the fish start suspending. Your flasher will point the suspended fish out for you and make your day. The guys without flashers do okay at first ice and when the thaws start but mid February, they are out of the picture.
  4. " The Lottery Money will go to Education", well where did the other tax money that use to go there end up?
  5. http://www.fishcrazycharters.com/derby/results2.html Study the time and ports when the fish are caught to plan a trip there. See how the winners move from the west to the east as the lake warms up. What lures are winning? The real big fish seem to be caught in the end of the year to early May.
  6. The USA imports $3 trillion dollars of seafood annually. Talk about a balance of payments problem.

    Perch rigs

My favorite rig is a light action spinning rod, reel loaded with 10 pound braid and two or three sneeled hooks tied directly to the braid with a palomar knot. No snaps or swivels as they stop sensitivity. Important that the bottom hook is tied next to the half ounce sinker so that when the sinker is lying in the mud, the minnow is lying on the bottom. Perch are really bottom feeders and they hit the bottom hook three times quicker than the upper hooks. During the warm summer months the perch suspend at times, probably due to oxygen depletion and you can catch them 10 foot off the bottom at times. This also happens under the ice after a long period of ice with no thaws. The braided line is like a violin string and you can feel the perch inhale your minnow, crunch and scale the minnows before they swallow them. The tip of your pole will show absolutely no movement, you have to feel the chewing with tight line. Always carry ice to keep the perch fresh you can keep them overnight and clean them the next day when you are not so tired after fishing all day.
  9. South Carolina allows you to use 24 rods and a couple trotlines.
  10. http://www.ohiogamefishing.com/communit ... y.php?f=11 Day and night, these guys are out there doing well.
  11. Ford Motor came up witha specification for 5W20 oil for its cars several years ago. The 5 weight synthetic oil quickly lubricated the engine slowing the wear process down. With the 210 degree operating temperature for fuel economy, regular oil would not last as 180 degrees is the maximum oil temperature for regular oil. The extra money for the synthetic oil was offset by the gas economy factor.
  12. Boats are not operated in below freezing temperatures so low viscosity oils are not needed to start the engine. Mercury is playing it safe by requiring the 25 weight oil. Our Coast Guard Search and Rescue diesels used 40 weight high detergent oil up in Ketchikan, but we had block heaters on them because we did not have time to warm them up.
  13. Your liquid crystal screens like on your depthfinders, gps, etc. should not be left out in below freezing temperatures.
  14. The boating magazines are recommending now that you empty your tanks for storage. Fill them up in the spring with fresh gasoline.
  15. Cuomo's Daddy added 10 cents to a gallon of gas as there was a shortage of gas alledgedly when he was in office. Now we have gasoline coming out of the sky, but Daddy's ten cents a gallon has been gouging me and you for decades. Maybe Andrew will give us our dimes back, No really. When you fill out your ballot, remember the dimes he stole from you.
  16. No one realizes how bad New York State and its financial situation is. It is essentially bankrupt and soon the banks will stop cashing the checks as there are no moneys left in the accounts. Worse yet is with all the layoffs and cutbacks, less revenues will come in. The house of cards we call Albany has fallen down and things are going to get worse. No matter what scheme the goofs in Albany come up with, less revenues to the State come in. Now deal with it.
  17. Thr real crime is New York State will use its guarantee for "Bonds" to pay for this foolishness. These guarantees will cost New Yorkers when we need schools, bridges or roads since the interest rates will rise due to our negligent spending on this scheme.
  18. Another Creek called "Tuna Creek" runs from Bradford, PA north to the Allegany River. This could be another name as there was a "Tuna Creek Railroad" that ran there a long time ago.
  19. There is a "Tunungwat Creek" coming into Bradford, PA that runs into New York's Allegany River. Just west of Limestone, NY is a pond or lake with no name.
  20. Is the plastic tank porous to alcohol fumes? The alcohol in my plastic tank dissolved the plastic on my Cannon Downrigger and beads on my spinners when I left the vents open on my tanks in six weeks. It glued them to the boat's carpet deck.
  21. Sturgeon Point boys are connecting also, due west of the point, 52to 55 foot of water. Plenty of minnows available at the local bait dealers. Get at least one dip per man.
  22. At a vehicle inspection station during an inspection, a vehicle was almost not "approved" due to a receiver hitch in place. Do not let them rust in place, pull them out, clean and grease it.
  23. http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial-pa ... 211855.ece Do we really need this stuff?
