  1. we hunt deer down here ...not the neighbors dogs....did ya get any cats? saw 1 set of tracks (yote) today but not lucky enuf to see one yet..also thats some good shooting them things usually dont slow down for a photo
  2. ok i have been at the skinnin ,cut em up yerself mode for 40 pluss years why head high when skinning /quarter job.
  3. good for you ,nice slinging,on the sticks, and ya got that big new barn to hang them in
  4. Well it aint the hunting of old ,im shure rifles in the so zone have improved the shot to kill ratio,,only heard 1- 5 round volley...even 5 years ago opening day i would of heard 50 to 100 shots opening day..either the deer or hunters are gone. the spot i hunt i would normally see 10 to 20 deer a day,yes i saw 13 yesterday but i hunted 2 spots 500 yds apart..the area my brother hunts has lost 70% oh the deer herd he had 6 cameras out all summer and fall with 2 beautiful food plots...maybe that cold winter last year did more damage than expected ..with bow hunting/muzzle loader and reg gun season and 2 permits =5 deer per person, toss in a few thousand coyotes and some bobcats,,and a few thousand road kills ,maybe its time the DEC looks at their numbers..I know 1 farmer had 60 nusence tags last year, and the land ajoining the area i hunt was issued 30...but hey just because i have more years in the woods than the folks who write the rules are old, what do i know..?
  5. Wouldnt be proper without one of these ...14 would take too long...
  6. saw 1========= 7 or 8 pt and 12 doe first day of my life i have seen more deer than heard gun shots...yup less than 12 shots heard and i was in the woods all day...and i mean within ear shot not just close shots...
  7. good for you ..thanks for the story too!
  8. Ok i got my doe pee, buck, pee ,ozoneater, wind directon powder, grunt tube, doe bleet, hat waffer, double layer no sent panty liners, ratlin horns, knee high rubber boots ,hand warmers, footwarmers, range finder, binocks, pokin knife, guttin knife, drag rope, drag sled, sent drag ,loc on ,climber, sent canaster,,,and yup my gun...boy them deer aint gotta chance....hmm wait 20 years ago all i had was a small thermos of coffee anything that kept me warm and a crotch or branch in a tree and i got deer....be safe out there hava great day...
  9. no a doe will eat when she wants a big buck will usually intercept her before the field,, the running doe arnt ready .. he will breed her where he can but usually a secluded spot (safe spot)..once he starts the dirty he will stay tight to her and sorta control her i have seen them straddle a doe to keep her down...as far as seeing the big boys ya gotta wait them out or still hunt, but only if ya have a lot of land then its sit and wait ..depending on the temps outside will rule when the doe gets hungry enuf to start eating..remember a deer has to lay down to barf up its food so it can redigest.........so when their laying they are eating too..Instead of reading just hunting mags read some books on white tail behavior ........
  10. sounds like the white house in the 90's
  11. this time of the year its almost foolish to hunt food source ( edge of it)...yes you will see the little ones chasing for a few yards then back to eating ...the big boys have already intercepted a breeder and have her cornered in the woods or cover..yes their are a few exceptions ,...one of the biggest bucks i saw on my last hunt of 10 days was chasing in the field but he wasnt the "big boy" of the area and that was his only chance of getting lucky without getting his butt wooped...it was a nice 2.5 year 11 pt but i saw two rack smashing 8 ptrs with doe 100 yds from the field ......with doe..with that said when the "stupid gene " calls anything can happen ,,I can honestly say my ability to getting so many nice bucks was carefull hunting and lots and lots of time in the woods and stand...the deer i shot this last hunt was less than 2 hours after sitting in the first stand the first day hunting.....other times i have sat for days before seeing a shooter even in "Great" hunting areas in Indiana....my best advise to anyone is the hunt starts as soon as you leave camp or your truck or car and ends when you close the door ...I have seen my best deer to and from a hunt that most people say..."yup i saw 2 tails on the way to the stand " be ready 110% of the time as we all know a deer has the ability to just appear even in noisy leafs..If i had a dollar for every time that has happened to me in the last 45 years i would be a rich man...PS this still happens to this day even with me on full alert..thats why I Love the Callange Of Hunting....Aim Straight............If I can't shoot the big one this year we all want to see your pics and hear the story....boy do have a lot of them............dont make me start telling them all specially without spell check, you all will be speaking "Raybonics"
  12. dont forget after each doe is breed ,it dont count... so ya start out with 30 bucks and 30 does after first day of breeding all 30 does are breed and ya got 30 horny bucks ...i wonder where they will go???? now if you have 30 horny does and 5 bucks wonder where those bucks will go..""nowhere"".YES do create a bordello ,set up a proper stand ,,get ready to put in yer time,,even in a bordello ya gotta go from room to room(so i hear),,Yes i have seen the shows, and read the magazines over the years..and never once have i sat in a tree and said hmm 1to 1 ,2 to 1, 3 to 1,,I just know 110% if i see a lot of does i will se a lot of bucks...just saying
  13. the other pile......... and I have given away many also and have 8 mounters over 140 on the wall....not braggin just saying..............
  14. a buck in rut is much like a married man...he gets ...fun loving 1 x a year...so if ya aint got any doe chances are you wont have bucks..I would rather have 50 acres with 30 doe that call it home rather than 30 bucks ...trust me the does will bring bucks too ya ...and the 30 bucks will leave yer land without doe to find them....kinda a extreme example ...to many folks think fewer does will up yer odds of seeing a buck...that might be true is ya have a 1000 acre ranch with a heavy deer population...if you have a small area to hunt,, keep the does there ..the bucks will come...with over 45 years in the woods it has proven true to me....
  15. darn 30 lbs of neck meat, dasa puffed up boy...yer timing must been perfect .those big boys "when thinking right " will usually swing way downwind to investigate the grunt.........good for you.
  16. wild bird can get dry unless cooked perfect...my advise cook at home pick the meat and package the meat dressing, and taters,gravy...then warm up at camp for a good meal...getting up early,, hunting all day, then cooking a turkey ,might not make for a good meal tho it sounds good on paper...as for me ,cabbage ,beans, brats, sourkrout,,then take the toilet paper
  17. 2 of the hunters last week showered 2x a day to control sent washed clothes everyday..and couldnt belive a opossum busted him at 25 yds...with 2 layers of sent lock atire...but they did look good.. me shower at the end of day, same pants coat, everyday blood and guts who cares deer dont...and i shot more deer and videoed even more than they saw for the week.................hunt the wind no exceptions {bow season} gun too but ya got a little more room for error......
  18. Well put john..........also a few mph 3 or 4 can make a big diff when traversing the last few ft of a hill, dont be banging yer head on the cieling by going to fast, but keep a varing throttle and minumize tire slippage..If ya try to baby every hill it will bite ya in the arse in those conditions..trust me i have only owned 1 wheel dr full size vans for the last 36 years and have been on some pretty bad areas in my hunting ,playing adventures...jumper cables and a good tow rope are "staples" in my van and back in the 15 in tire days chains were as important as a gun ...now i just call my brother for the "good stucks" to pull me out..
  19. someone put a hole in the back of his neck,,,,I think their might be a story here............very nice.
  20. I figured how to take a still pic of my video this is why i spent 4 days of my hunt trying to get this one... i might have a better angle shuda seen that rack at 22 yds
  21. no after Don passed the 3 kids who don't get along were fighting so bad over the money and land a state judge had to overrule Don,s Will and liqudated the assets and split the land one of the kids all over 50 yrs old ,drank away his land money and had to sell his part ..the daughter won't be far behind...kinda a shame the Farm has been in the family from 1899..Im sure my friend Don is rolling over in his grave...well i was blessed with many great memories........
  22. Well I fell into another deal of a lifetime . Some friends from Fla. Invited me to hunt their 280 acre farm in Pike Cty. The kinda bad news is they are meat hunters anything goes so Monster bucks were far and few between. I did see a 14 pt 4 diff. times even stalked within 22 yds as it layed next to a doe.Not wanting to take a laying down shot through the weeds I settled in for what i thought would be a long waiting game ....I didn't see the doe and she was only 11 yds and saw me ...well she busted out like a rabbit and as he stood i had 1 sec to draw my bow for a shot that wasn't long enough to get er done and away he went,a day later i had a perfect 80 yd broadside ,but 30 yds outa my pin range..next morning I enticed him to 50 yds in goldenrod with no shot as i was on the ground..Had a beautiful 11 pt at 14 yds but it was on neighbors land over the fence If it wen't 4 more yds and jumped the fence I could of had a 8 yd shot...oh well..I saw 3 nice 10 pts one at 42 yds with the shot in the liver and he too chose the ajoining property where on of the hunter shot him ..at least it didnt go to waste nice 135 in deer ...I have some great video of the big boy at 80 yds just need to edit and try to post..over all I had 6 shooters 2.5 yr and older in range at one time or another for the week. And saw close to 25 other smaller bucks 90% were within 30 yds...so I had to take this 119in 8pt and a nice doe too so i brought home meat he was at a whopping 8yds running a doe and the rage put it down in under 100yds after the shot...The good news Is i have a open invite for next year.........gonna be a long year wait..after a trip like that spoils ya,, its hard to hunt ny land but i will force myself. I will be second guessing not taking the ground shot for a few days on the "cabin Buck" Im shure one of the gun hunters will get him now that i patterened him and disclosed his small domain I will post pics if they do.
