  1. I would say the 18 lber is probably a small 3 yr old and the 12 lber is a second year fish. My observation is there are more 2 yr old fish that are maturing every year, especially over the last 10 yrs. Many of these years there was no problem with the bait fish population but I've caught and seen more fish maturing in their second year based on the size of the fish relative to the size of all the rest of the mature fish I was catching in the same areas on the same day. I fish in the area of the Salmon River.
  2. Actually no. If diet was a problem you would be catching skinny, undernourished fish for a few years before the **** hit the fan. Not the case. Who's Yankee? You can tell the age by catching thousands of fish over the years and comparing to past experience. If a fish is underfed he will not maintain the length versus weight (or width) relation compared to healthy fish. Age would effect both.
  3. Bull ****. For the last 10 yrs I've been seeing more 2 yr olds maturing every year. That has nothing to do with diet. I've been fishing the east end for about 25 yrs.
  4. Best of luck.

  17. I stand corrected. After some research I found they do pollinate. More so in late summer according to the article I read. After more than 6 decades of life, I can honestly say I've never seen it happen.
  18. They have 18 lb test core thats a smaller dia but I've never run it. Maybe someone that does will chime in. Good luck.
  19. I don't think a 7 color core will go on a 600 with the proper amount of braid backing. For fishing Salmon on Ontario I wouldn't want to run much less that 800 ft of backing and I run 28 lb test core. My 7 colors are on convector 45's. Check the line cap between the 2 and that will give you a better idea.
  20. Like mentioned already I disconnect the neg from the battery and charge it fully before the temps drop below 32 deg. Leave them in the boat in my non heated garage and go out a couple times during the winter and charge them. If the battery is good they will not lose much in a couple months. My batterys always last way longer than they are rated for.
  21. There are drag washer kits that are better than the originals. Also available from tunas called (tournament series drag washers) Rest of the stuff has to be ordered separately. Tunas will replace anything that is worn and send you the old parts with your reel. Just about every reel I sent him he replaced the level wind pawl. Other than that different components on different reels were needed and they come back like new. I have a few sets of drag washers for 600's that I can sell you cheap and I believe they are the same as the 500's. I retired recently from my charter business and sold all my 600's so if they will fit the 500's let me know. I'll take care of you because I won't need them.
  22. Thanks
