i know these aren't new, but i can't stand them. They are much louder than the other sounds my computer emits. who else would rather the website not have 'em? any chance we can get rid of them? sorry to be so bah-hum-bug but i can't stand their breaking sound...it also startles my dog!!! andre

Hi all, i used to be an obsessed duck hunter decades ago when i lived in texas and we could shoot lead. i have not hunted ducks much in the last 15 years but i want to do some in the second season coming up. I don't have the money for the expensive non-toxics, so i'll be shooting the winchester shells i have: xpert HV. i have 2s, BB and BBB. What shells would you recommend i use and more importantly, what choke should i use with steel? i have a remington 11-87 and all the stock tubes it came with - from improved cylinder to full choke. thanks very much! andre PS - i still don't have any great looking spots chosen after a couple days of scouting. I live near hemlock and canadice lakes and would rather not travel too far. The south ends of those lakes had virtually no ducks on them today. Do any of you have any suggestions for a spot near hemlock lake where there would be decent chances of decoying some ( i hear that Conesus is good but i also hear there are LOTS of hunters there and i don't like competing with dudes everywhere). thanks again and Happy Holidays!

I just bought a kicker for my new (used) boat. I would like to run both motors from the same gas tank. is there some kind of "Y" connector that would allow me to do this? How do most people accomplish running gas from one tank to to motors? many thanks, andre

Hi everyone, i recently bought a used Crestliner with a long shaft 90hp evinrude. Although advice had been a little mixed, the consensus seemed to be that the kicker should also be long shaft. A guy near Oswego advertised this 15hp Yamaha as a 20" shaft. I drove over 2hrs to get there. The motor is clean and ran well and i was not sure it was a short shaft, but suspected it was. It is a short shaft. However, given that i am only going to use it for trolling, do you think this is acceptable or quite suboptimal? (please see photos) thanks for your input, andre

if the motor is larger than 10 hp, the propellor must be off the motor or you'll be fined. The 10 hp regulation is still in effect. dre

Hi all, i live near Hemlock, and rarely venture to the Eastern FLX but i'm headed to Skinny on Sept 20 and was hoping to get a few tips. I've heard there are no alewifes or smelt in the lake - is that true? I've also heard you should fish small lures - true? any tips, advice, locations will be greatly appreciated. I also have a trip to Indian Lake (ADKs) scheduled in september so i just ordered some lake clear wabblers - do you think those might work in skinny as well? many thanks, andre

Hi all, i shoot a G5 Quest QS33 and have been shooting Gold Tip XT hunters with 4" vanes along with Grim Reaper mechanical broadheads. I have been happy with that setup - have killed my first 4 deer with bow with that setup. The only reason i'm considering switching to 2" vanes is that i frequently see the 2 inchers on sale for $25 for 6 vs the $45 for 6 4"vanes. I have heard that the 2" vanes are better for fixed blade broadheads. Is there any reason i should not get the 2inchers with what i shoot? thanks for your input, andre

Hello All, i'm gonna make my first trip to Indian Lake in mid-september and am curious if any of you has had any success fishing it that time of year. My understanding is that it has lake trout, rainbows, browns, and landlocks, but i don't know how common it is to catch any of the non-lake trout salmonids (I did my first ADK fishing last year at Raquette lake hoping for a nice brookie and only caught a few small lakers...). any info is greatly appreciated - from what salmonids are most likely caught, to locations, specific lures, etc. thanks! andre

i ran dipseys with flasher/fly combos with wire yesterday for the first time in 2 years (hadn't been on lake O for 2 yrs - i mostly fish the fingerlakes) we caught some fish off the wire, but i don't really like fishing with wire (it isn't pliable and doesn't come off the reel as nicely as braid). My understanding is that wire helps get a little deeper with dipseys. What are thr advantages of using wire, COMPARED TO USING 80 POUND BRAID with the dipsey flasher combo? thanks, andre

i registered on 6/23 via the web (received a receipt from papal that my $30 was deducted from my account for the red cross) but have received NOTHING from the redcross - no receipt, no registration # etc. I have been making calls to the redcross but the person i need to speak with hasn't been there and isn't returning my calls... anyone else having similar problems? dre

hi all, the redcross will be my first derby and i'll be jigging for lakers. I don't have a livewell and i understand that dead fish tend to lose some of their weight. Normally, when i catch a laker, i cut their throat to bleed 'em and put them directly on ice or in ice water (keeps them fresh for the table). do you think a large laker will stay alive if i keep water in a large cooler cold (around 50 degrees by adding ice throughout the day)? any other thoughts about how to keep a laker alive without a livewell? many thanks, dre

I've been doing some initial research on the fishawk X4. I bet me trolling catch rate would increase but $600 is a lot of money. Reading the x4 manual, they say that repairs for either the probe or the display is a "flat rate" $185 - that seems like a lot too. for those who have had the x4 for a while, how reliable has it been? have you needed any repairs? they say the probe is "bulletproof" - have any of you ran it (accidentally) into bottom? still working? many thanks for any info - i'm leary of the "reviews" i read that are not on forums like this. dre
