  1. I agree with you........Makes me SICK!!!!! However, there is a message here to send also. Way to many guys take a shot and unfortunately make a marginal hit (like the guts), and what do they do next? Get down and look for their arrow or for blood.... bad move! A gut shot deer IS going to lay down very close to your stand location and if given enough time WILL expire right there, usually within 100 yrds. Gut shot deer DO NOT bleed so forget about a blood trail rain or shine...When you make a bad shot (GUTS) GET OUT as quietly as you can, give the deer a minimum of 12 hrs then go back to where you last sen it and I AM Sure you will find it very close! I hear these stories way too many times from hunters pushing wounded deer, jumping them out of their beds and they lose them because they run into the next county after being spooked. When archery hunting especially, if you make a marginal shot (guts, liver) and you don't see or hear your deer fall, leave it alone for a good amount of time, it will lay down and expire. DEAD is DEAD. Way too many deer each season go unrecovered due to hunters impatience or lack of knowledge. When in doubt....GET OUT! Only one more weekend til the army's of orange and the "beer hunters" take to the field once again, I am sure none of us fall into this catergory so I don't need to remind anyone that we have a responsibility as sportmen and to these animals to respect them and do every thing possible to recover them!!!!! Be safe and ethical!!!!!!
  2. Wow...... Paul and I finally agree on something!!!!!! hehehehe....These pictures PISS me off!!!! Now we should propably start the discussions that instead of the coyotes killing ALL of our deer its the cats running around the woods that the DEC let go to control the deer population due to the rising insurance premiums. I have had that pic pop up on my cell phone for months! Paul.... I heard that the deer in your pic was taken in OHIO by an Amish boy (dressed as a captain from Lake Onatrio that fishes out of the Oak) who stalked it and killed it with a homemade knife on the family farm.....
  3. Justin - Unfortunately I am completly ignorant about this thing!!! I would not even know where to look. I inhereted this box a number of years ago from a friend who fished the fingerlakes mainly. He had come up to LO to fish and wanted to try it on my boat, all I can say is it worked back then and has not been used since! My friend left it here to use again and then unfortunatley passed away shortly thereafter. So.... I have this box and it must be of some value to somebody. I have no idea what it is worth, however, I am sure it is worth something! I am willing to accept any reasonable offer!!!!!!
  4. Jim Maloney 716-472-7101. SUPER GOOD guy, very responsible! I have used him numerous times and know quite a few people who have. I have never had or heard of a complaint. He is quite busy this time of year so leave a message if he does not answer. Brought my boat back from Mass. and he was very reasonably priced.
  5. Good Condition, (used) spooled with copper. I have had this box stored in my basement for 20 yrs. It was left to me and I have NEVER used it. PM for info. I have no use for it and want it out of the basement! Shipping or delivery can be arranged. MAKE OFFER!!!
  6. I have 3 of these reels 4-sale, two of them are loaded with full spools of wire and one has no line. These reels are in GOOD condition and have plenty of use left in them!!! I am asking $60.00 each for the two spooled with wire and $50.00 for the other. $150.00 takes all three! Buyer pays shipping or can pick-up!
  7. Nick - Kevins phone number is 716-863-1001. Hope this helps, if not send me a PM and I will let him know of your concern.
  8. Yes to your question! All weigh-ins will be held at the Boatyard. Good Luck!
  9. 1 - Used icom M126DSC VHF - Works well manual included $50.00 1 - New in Box Shakespeare 5204 18 1/2 FT VHF Antenna $75.00 2 - Abu Garcia BG 7000 LD Reels used 2 seasons both need clickers replaced! These reels new are $180.00 a piece. I am asking $75.00 each. Buyer pays shipping! I am willing to meet for drop of within reason. The antenna will probably need to be dropped off as I believe shipping would be a bit costly due to size.
  10. Paul – Wish I could of replied sooner however I was enjoying the wonderful weather we had this weekend. Anyway, I like others appreciate your info pertaining to the rules changes. Like at least one post indicated I too thought that this forum was created to voice our opinions/suggestions relating to the Pro/Am bet it positive or negative. After all the initial post in this thread stated that “the committee†wanted to simplify the Am division in order to draw more teams! What I continue to see here is that it is not simplicity that participants want; I read suggestions to changes relating to culling, open communication, borders and observers. My personal belief after fishing these events from the beginning is there is a need for observers IF they are used in a consistent manner. You as well as I know that this has NOT been the case in plenty of situations; I will not get into this observer topic any longer as most of us whom have fished the event for any length of time have seen many of the blunders! I understand that nothing is perfect but some of these situations frankly cast a bad light on the integrity of the event. I have to disagree that the committee has listened to the participants as many of the questionable rules have not even been considered let alone revised. I must ask if you desire to simplify why would you model another division after “the wildly successful Friday event†when this event is already occurring and as you state so successful? Just doesn’t make sense. Further, I do feel your frustration, however, you calling people out is highly unlike you. So if I want to be considered “A BIG BOY†I should put my money where my mouth is. This is very insulting to many of us when our question has not been answered. Why would we in our right mind enter this event when some of the participants (perhaps you included as a committee member) could review the teams score sheets from the prior two days which has a tremendous amount of information. This could be an unfair advantage and even if it is just an assumption could cause more hard feelings at the end of the day! Also I would think that such a high dollar event would also require an observer. Remember what happened with the Si-Tex tournament back in the 80’s? In relation to involvement in the committee, we all appreciate the hard work many of you put into organizing this event but to say get involved is humorous. Forgive if I am wrong here but your tenure on the committee as an active member although appreciated is within the last 10 yrs. Prior to your involvement many rules were changed a few of which you have said you are not in favor of in various forums. During your tenure there have been various members of the fishing community including members of LOTSA who have attempted to become active and involved members only to find out that their suggestions for the most part go unheard and fall through the cracks of the good ole boy network! This can and does get frustrating! So if you are that tired of being on the committees as you indicated I would suggest you step down as your frustration is beginning to show. I for one am amused with your insults of us nameless dolts. It is apparent that the committee is open for suggestions as long as they don’t step on any toes or pressure rule changes that SOME committee members don’t want to see changed. Paul, this post is in no way meant to insult you or question YOUR integrity, nor is it to “stir more ****â€! It is reality! I must give you credit in the fact that of all the committee members YOU are the only one who sticks their neck out to answer these posts difficult or not. Maybe other members of the committee are not able to use a computer? Warmest regards. Mrhappy
  11. After reading this thread it is clear that the open communication rule is not very popular with most of us for reasons that we are aware of and have already been commented on. I have a suggestion that may be looked at to assit in this issue. As I undersatnd one of the reasons for instituting this rule was #1 it was difficult to enforce no communication, I have to say BS. We as participants know that it frankly is enforcable for the most part! The reality is cheaters will always find a way to cheat! The #2 reason from what has been discussed in the past, and I must confess is a great idea if it was actually followed up on rather then being lipservice, was to hopefully convince a tele -communication company to sponsor the event while promoting their companies products and services. In the true spirit of a Pro/Am, a pro is teamed up with an amateur participant, at least those that I have participated in. Here is my suggestion, this should not be very difficult to pull-off either. At the observers meeting prior to observer assignments being called one Pro boats number will be randomly drawn and then an Am boat will be randomly drawn, then the following teams called will again pull boats numers then on and on....... These two boats would be able to communicate with each other and only with each other! The way it would be enforced is the observers held THE ONLY POWERED UP CELL PHONE on the boat and they would answer insuring its the perspective teams boat assignment. Again, nothing is perfect and cheaters will find a way to cheat regardless!!!!!!! Yes it may take up a bit more time at an already grueling observers meeting but it would perhaps fix what we all despise and also promote sportsmanship! After all isn't this what it should be all about? Another small comment I would like to make here is regarding this potential new tournamnet on the Monday following the Pro/Ams in Niagara and Oswego. It was listed that the possible entry fees being around $1000.00. I for one must admit that our team would be quite concerned that another "select few" participants or organizers would be able to review all of the Pro/Am teams score sheets which list the exact time, waypoints, estimated size and bait the fish was caught on prior to Monday morning! Is there positively a way to prevent that? Here we go again?!?!?!?
  12. Jeff - I am not sure how to get in contact with the Scotty organizers, however, I am sure that if you have messaged them they will be sure to reply in a timely fashion. There are enough members on this site that I am confident they will speak directly with the organizers and let them know of your concerns!! There is a bit of information in this forum in The King of The Lake thread with some preliminary information from the tournament organizers, that thread also lists a phone number for the Wilson Boatyard. I would not delay in at least contacting them and get a slip secured for the event! I believe they would be able to answer some questions you may also have. Word on the street is that there is loads of interest in this event in Wilson and many have already secured slips. From what I understand and have heard through the grapevine the organizers are hard at work with the final planning of these competitions. Rumor has it there has been some major industry sponsors recently added. I also heard that the Harbor community will also be hosting their second annual Salmon Slam on that weekend rather than during the Pro/Am weekend. I have heard that it will again be over the top and the payouts should be the same including the big fish prize! If you did not attend the Salmon Slam last year I can Tell you that it was a great function and added a bit of fun. Hopefully this is true regarding the fact that they will be hosting it during the Scotty rather than the Pro/Am as it will hopefully quell the mudslinging and drama that occured last year!
  13. It is quite unfortunate that those who pretend to be "in the know" have enough time on their hands to start such rumors. It is also unfortunate that those who portray that they are "in the know" suffer from such a case of little mans disease. What continues to amaze me the most is the effort these folks have put into attempting to undermine this event with gossip and assumptions. Rather than placing ALL of this energy towards making this a positive, those "in the know" continue to beat a dead horse. Think about it, the Wilson community is giving away FREE money and prizes to thank those who patronize their businesses and to hopefully add a bit of spice and most importantly new blood to the exsisting tournament format. It is quite aparent after viewing the ad in GLA that there is considerable support for this event! It is quite an impressive list! As the behind the scene undermining and negativity continues I am confident that the sponsors of this event of both cash and merchindise have already stepped up to the plate and are moving forward with poise and professionalism.
  14. Try The Daisy Barn campgrounds at 716-751-9375. It just minutes from the Harbor. They have electric hook-ups and also allow tent camping, very clean as well.
  15. First off FISHHAWK...It probably would have been easier to cut and paste! Anyways..... exonerate me for being trivial. I actually can't believe I am responding to this post. Forgive me for my ignorance and trying to steal your thunder! As I sit here and try to interpet where you are actually going with this leaves me absolutley speechless! Once again it appears that a select few are drawing a line in the sand and turning this into some sort of competetion. I must say that if Olcott is magnanimous enough to put together a "side bet" restricted only to Olcott berthed boats and it makes the "tourney" stronger I say great job! Sounds like a positve to me! Unfortunately I am only one opinion. Anything to help the exsisting event is a positive no matter what! Don't want to beat a dead horse here but it is more than just Kevin! It is quite obvious he is doing quite well in running his marina, however, I am quite confident that he is not able to independently subsidize this. It is a number of businesses involved working together to enhance what already exsists. Some just insist on making this personal for obvious reasons. Again. it seems to be falling on deaf ears to a select few as Wilson has made every effort to include all participants in in their ideas, unfortunately, they have not had much response. Except for "give us your money and sponsor information"! As I attempted to stress in my latter post: perhaps folks are barking up the wrong tree and should funnel their frustrations and anger in a different direction! I am sure this can go on forever with some puttting their spin on it, however, I am confident that things will progrees positively and the tourney will remain unharmed and stronger! Good luck!
  16. Unfortunately the direction of this thread continues to get very personal towards a single individual and it appears that a very small number of folks are attempting to hijack the thread while putting a negative spin on it for whatever reason. Frankly, I must begin by saying that I admire the passion and desire that “smallfryâ€
  17. Daisy Chains, banjos, "liquid nourishment" and a few guy's sleeping together........ Not a pretty picture! Glad to hear that you were able to get into the State Park, also a nice place and many from this site stay there. Sounds like the Salmon Slam is shaping up to be a very nice addition to the Pro/Am. Don't forget to leave your information and register at the e-mail address listed on the initial thread. Wouldn't want to see anyone miss out Good fishing!
  18. FYI Guy's - There is a nice campsite two minutes from the harbor to the west. It is called the Daisy Barn, it is located right on Rte 18 next to the Lake. Not sure if there is any vacancy, however, probably worth a shot. The number is 716-751-9375, let them know you will be fishing the Pro/Am. Good luck!!!
  19. Along with the Boatyard Marina lodging and The Wilson House there is a very nice place just west of the harbor called Lake Breeze. They were recently remodled and the have some nice cabins also. East of Wilson a bit is Fishermans choice, they have 3 or 4 cabins that are nice. Hope this helps!
  20. YANKEE....THANK YOU!!!!!! First off, congrats on harvesting 2.5 yr olds! Thats a great start to growing some nice bucks. And what a great philosphy on your choosing of the "Does" you are shooting. Your BUCK population thanks you! Good luck with the smokepole the rest of the season. Happy.
  21. marcus - I had convinced myself that I was not going to reply to this thread any longer to avoid frustrating myself! However, once again many of my thoughts are being reinforced here! First off, you are aggreing that as the YOTES increase so is your WHITETAIL population. Absolutley, and I would risk saying so is the Turkey population. Like a select few of us, you are very lucky to be hunting a tract of land that more than likely has the elements to "hold" wild game! Food and cover!!!! I will disagree with you and say that your population is declining. Again I will strees I am not against the SELECTIVE harvesting of DOES! Let me ask you....in the past 4-5 years of the thinning of your herd how many button bucks were taken???? So again to reinforce what I am trying to say here, as we wrecklessly thin(not that your group is) we are decreasing our future antlered deer population. With the current DMP and nusciance process this cannot be denied! More importantly you state a very important COMBINATION of facts regarding ratios of numbers of future deer being produced, and their genetics. As you indicated the average age of the bucks taken in the state is 1.5 yrs old (probably including that 8pt you harvested) what sense does is make to harvest that QUALITY and then let the spikes walk so they can "grow up"? So while we are harvesting those QUALITY deer we are letting those spikes which will probably always be a spike walk around and breed. Again I somewhat agree with your logics regarding breeding purposes of both sexes as I too have seen it with my own two eyes. I am not going to get into where deer live and why, but I will say that they are pretty adaptable creatures and can survive just about anywhere. I still am stating that YOTES are not killing off our DEER and the Deer managment process here in NY nad PA is broke. I will say that in the area we hunt we DO selectively harvest does to fill DMP'S, we do attempt to get rid of as many of the "inferior" bucks as we legally can, we DO see Yotes. All while aggreing to not harvest "quality" 1.5 to 2.5 year olds and in the last 4 years we have all harvested 130 inch plus Bucks along with a doe or two. Makes sense? For the last few years many of my hunting companions whom are very well versed (i should add that one is a whitetail biologist and another owns a local deer farm with quality genetics) have been pushing for a change and it falls on deaf ears. Until we realize that YOTES/cars/diseases are not killing thousands of deer we can just contine to listen to the MAJORITY of hunters complain about their hunts. Good hunting!
