    Gutting the EPA will cost us all financially when companies pollute and declare bankruptcy when they can’t/don’t want to pay clean up costs. Right now in my parent’s state of North Carolina, big pig farms want the EPA regulations gone. They routinely have flooding that dumps 10’s of thousands of gallons of straight up pig crap into the local waterways killing everything. There is so much Arsenic in local waterways down there that nobody can eat the fish. There can be some trimming of the fat across the board but gutting agencies will kick the cost to taxpayers down the road.

    I can’t deny he is a billionaire but I cannot ignore the fact he was born with a silver spoon and given the keys to kingdom by his father. I cannot ignore the fact he then pissed it all away and no banks would lend him money so he had to go crawling to the Russian backed Deutsche Bank to stay solvent and the conflict of interest it creates. I cannot ignore his love of Putin. I cannot ignore the fact that international banks are wavering in confidence about Trumps plan and we will have to pay higher interest rates on our bonds. I hope there are still some adults in the room to steer this sinking ship in the right direction……soon.

    Nobody is disagreeing that we need fiscal responsibility from our government. Unfortunately, the guy who’s businesses have declared bankruptcy six times is in charge. He lacks a basic understanding of the world economy. We are truly f’-ed.

    The USGS just got word they are being shut down. The netting portion of the alewife survey was completed but the behind the scenes numbers crunching and reporting is probably not going to happen. What a kick to the balls.

    You may want to check or replace the fuel line hoses. Certain years would have an inner liner within the hose start to break down and start shedding. Causes clogs.

    My old visions of seeing Keg Creek listed in the Sander’s fishing guide and fishermen standing shoulder to shoulder far above and below rt. 18 access during the 1980’s salmon runs have been replaced by the reality that there is only .1 miles of access on Keg Creek. There are DEC fishing access signs so it may be confusing. I don’t want anyone reading this thread to get into trouble by trespassing.     The alewife survey was completed for this year but looks like the data will not get compiled in time before job cuts. Bait levels are reported as good from the trawler survey.

    Today’s adventure was a hike down to the mouth of Keg Creek. This area is fishable with any sort of South wind. This is a gem of a spot that I hadn’t been to since the early 90’s. Cold and wet weather didn’t stop the Browns from crashing the beach. I probably had 15 follows up to my rod tip. I lost a bunch of fish today. One was a big steelhead that hit my lure, shook it off and then proceeded to skyrocket out the water another 10 times in front of me to show off. One giant melon head brown followed my bait 6 different times before he decided to hit the lure with only two feet of line out. He shook off too but I will admit I may have pooped in my pants a little when I saw the fish follow and open its giant mouth at waters edge. I don’t think you can fish too shallow right now. Again, follows with minnow baits and hits with the Rebel brown trout gobie imitation.

    Unfortunately, my boat suffered a cracked block coming out of winter. With things up in the air trying to figure out next steps to repower, this boatless bastard will have to revert to some old ways of catching fish to maintain proper mental health. Off to Olcott pier this afternoon to see if some browns were around. After 30 minutes of casting, I noticed lots of seagulls circling the broken piers off Krull park. Off I went. Hadn’t fished those little piers since childhood so it was a trip down memory lane. I was fully expecting to see some bait around with all the bird life but none could be seen. Nothing was hitting my Rapala flat raps either so I had to adjust. I noticed in the clear water off the piers there was some decent rock rubble and craggy shale- perfect habitat for gobies. On went a Rebel jointed brown trout pattern and it was game on. I would make about ten casts then hop to the next pier. Rinse and repeat. Each time the new pier would reload. Epic brown battles plus a bonus Atlantic. With the warm South wind it made for an enjoyable afternoon. I am not feeling so bad about being boatless.
