  1. I have a friend that has been fishing out of Sturgeon Pte along the Canadian line and getting his limits.
  2. Cool, thanks.
  3. Have not seen many reports from these lakes. I have a new to me 1978 Penn Yan that needs to eat!
  4. This is the usual fight I get from Atlantics. They play opossum until you net them. Caught one last week. Lots around this year so not sure what is going on with stocking? Perhaps there was a hatch in some trib of naturals? Hell must have frozen over.
  5. I was running a boat with zero electronics but a fellow fisherman told me that the thermocline was at 72-78’
  6. You don’t have to clear a side if you place the rod as high as you can reach and go SLOW out the back. After you get to length, let it ride down the chute a bit before clipping in on your board planer line. You have to allow time for the leadcore or copper to rise in the water column before it can slide over your dipsys. I usually stand on my I/O dog box to get more elevation
  7. You picked good times! Off year.
  8. At that range, look for a used Grady. They come up for sale on occasion
  9. Also remember composite = construction with different materials. Wood/fiberglass/gelcoat is technically a composite material. As others stated a marine survey is a good idea. I would ask the owner if you could pull some screws from transom hardware to see if they were properly sealed. Water coming out of the holes or black soft wood on the threads means possible transom problems.
  10. Fished three hours this morning and was skunked. Tried for kings for an hour and noticed the fleet struggling and then all leave for deep water so went in close for browns for two hours. Never had a sniff. What a difference a year makes. Olcott has had an “off” year.
  11. Quick hitter before the winds came. Just missed the board with these two. Bonus Atlantic. 7 am start time, in the diner eating breakfast by 9 am. Crazy bite of giant browns.
  12. Not bad for zero electronics.
  13. More dropsies drivebys today but still good action. Top fish was 23.8 lbs. I lost my readers in the boat so when I weighed the fish on the boat I thought the scale read 28 lb +. Quick rack and stack to head the scales only to find out my eyes ain’t what they used to be lol 😂. The girl weighing it looked at me like I was a clown.
  14. FOW = 150-175’. I will keep the port of exit to myself-derby time.
  15. Nope, no hooksets allowed on boat lol. Just a good old wire dipsy rip with some violent head shakes.
  16. The boys wanted to try for kings today and wow what a bite! Highlight was landing a triple on majors while a freighter was bearing down on us. Hot were 68’ rigger with a stingray green glow alewives spoon, meat rig on 80’ rigger, nuclear green spinny with a hammer fly (yes, that combo from yesteryear), and a green dot echip with a hypnotist fly on divers. Would have been a hell of a tournament box with 24,23,22,21,20,19 lb matures plus a bunch of big two year olds. One strange 50 lb leader snap off occurred mid-leader on what looked like perfect 50 lb Seaguar blue label. Does fluoro go bad over time? I had last minute pulled out some hammer flies that had stopped producing in 2014 when the lake cleared from bad winters. They have sat in my basement,in a box, out of the sun but perhaps fluoro ages? Anyone have any similar experiences with older fluoro?
  17. Finally got my boat wet for some derby action. New to me is a Penn Yan 18’ 1978 with the original Chrysler outboard. Not sure how I became a two boat owner but I was running out of places to put all my lures so I said what the hey. With the snotty morning forecast we bought or time and waited for the wind to die down. Me and my two brothers in a 1978 boat with no fishfinder, no speed and temp and used OnX for gps. It didn’t take long to find some dandy browns and the second fish was 14 lbs on the scale. Nobody wanted to run in because the bite was on. Lost track of time and when I checked to see when the local weigh stations closed I realized we were not going to make it. Oh well, the ice cream on the way home and time spent with my brothers was priceless.
  18. Despite reports of Lake Ontario flipping, it would appear based on the surface temp charts the dog days of summer are still here.
  19. Reminder about sunset bay shootout this weekend. Consider your port of departure carefully
  20. Haha 😂. The inspection takes an hour because it was interrupted by fish.
  21. How were the biting flies? They were brutal off Sturgeon. We spent more time swimming than fishing
  22. Great dock! Which finger lake are you on?
  23. 62-65’. Probably best to head West a little before you set down
