  1. I am hearing that there was a sewage release in Dunkirk which will not help either.
  2. My neighbor just got back from their cottage on the Canadian side and noted a fish kill was starting. This wind is going to mix things up pretty good.
  3. Boom! Bill has a couple of evening cocktails and he is giving away derby dollars!! Awesome offer.
  4. Wilson Boatyard Marina and Bootlegger’s Cove DOES NOT have tackle anymore. They have gas, slips and are still serving as LOC weigh stations
  5. Boat Doctors - Olcott, NY Jim and Karen have everything you need or would want for trolling plus other items such as boat supplies and Dramamine.
  6. Captain’s Cove - Oak Orchard Has some tackle. This is a new store that will probably be increasing inventory over time. They have rooms and slips to rent.
  7. There are often people inquiring about where to buy tackle when they come up to the lake. Knowing how important it is to support local tackle shops, I thought I would start a thread that highlights some of the tackle shops on the West side of the lake. Feel free to add to the list to help serve as a resource for others. Route 18 Tackle shop: near Hamlin Has pretty much everything you need to fish Lake Ontario including custom Hawk series of spoons. Additionally, there are some stickbaits for walleye and other warm water species tackle.
  8. The lake has flipped. The water off Buffalo will probably be still warm. https://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/ncast.php?lake=eri
  9. A good way to think of water and how it can affect fish movement is to picture a lava lamp
  10. My brother went off the Catt last weekend and got their two man limits in under two hours each day. I imagine there will be a negative effect from the weather this week
  11. September conditions will be way different than current. You will get nothing useful from reports this early as a lot will change during staging. The one theme this year class of fish has shown last year and this year is a preference for spoons first, meat second.
  12. I was wondering if anyone can shed any light (confirm or deny) a rumor going around that some of the East end captains are looking to meet with the DEC to discuss the shrinking size of King salmon with consideration for a moratorium on stocking for two years?
  13. Aiden is derby dreaming 😴
  14. Awesome…..but why isn’t Pete making the report? We all appreciate his soothing narrator voice.
  15. Wow! A jigging slam?? Unreal.
  16. Hit the water today at the bight early time of noon. For some reason my spidey senses said go brown fishing young man….I never go brown fishing in the summer. I don’t know why I decided to Brown fish but glad we did. If you have never seen a pre-spawn staging brown blitz, you are missing out on one of the wonders of nature. We set down in 42’ and it was game on. Rods going in, rods going off. Non-stop action for three hours. Browns were stacked from top to bottom. Fish were rolling and boiling on the surface. 76 degree water. And then it ended. Hooks still there but the blitz just ended. We slid off the drop and spent the next two hours on two and three year old kings. Great day. Spoon bite. Michigan Stinger stingray UV glow alewife and dreamweaver mag spoons. Rigger and slide diver bite.
  17. Ah! Of course.
  18. Why do I see palm trees?
  19. I use Anchor Marine on Grand Island.
  20. Great 👍
  21. Battery always charged up. I don’t leave out riggers in rain but keep the ideas coming
  22. These are 90% three year olds being caught IMO. They have developing gonads. With that being said, single digit percentage of kings making it to four years old off a huge class of fish means there should be historically big numbers of four year olds based on pure volume for next year
  23. Single digit percentage of kings make it to 4 years.
  24. I have been having reoccurring problems with my Cannons. Blown fuses and motherboards. I run a Big Jon on deep center rigger. It goes up and down. Never a problem. My two corner riggers are cannons. They last a year before boards need replacing. Big Jon and Cannons are wired exactly the same with an inline fuse to POS + post direct to a dedicated battery that only the riggers are hooked up to. Connections to primary battery and perko battery switch. Rigger wires are sized up two sizes so it should not be a resistance problem. See picture of the melted fuse below. It has been suggested I have a bad ground. Connections look perfect with sealed terminations. Getting ready to junk them. Any suggestions?
