  1. We all like to play general manager of our sports teams so I will play lake manager and be thinking with the alewife die off this year, I would like to see what the alewife survey shows before agreeing to stocking increases from current level (let’s hope there will be a survey).
  2. Probably a food web thing. Not sure there is plankton sampling going on during the winter months to confirm but if I had to guess there may be more of the mysis species concentrated on the bottom off the North shore. Pure conjecture. Maybe Dr Weidel can jump in here.
  3. The amount of two year old kings as a percentage jumping off the piers at Olcott this weekend was disturbing. There are some things still needing fixin’
  4. Good slug of fish off Olcott this morning. Saw WAY too many 2 year old jacks in the mix. Something needs to change.
  5. We shall see what the runs up the salmon show. It sounds like a wad of fish showed up in Mexico finally. Hopefully we get some rain and soon. I am more concerned that fish have been absent at the same time there was a substantial fish kill this spring . Not sure if any testing for VHS was conducted by fisheries. Disease doesn’t care which hatchery you came from.
  6. Looks like Olcott or the Oak have the temps to pier fish.
  7. When I was in Chile, I saw atlantics in the fish markets also. Very fertile ocean and unbelievable tribs.
  8. I would like to know which stream some of those recent Michigan giants came from.
  9. Can of worms potentially if someone catches a record. You would need an asterisk next to name like the home run record during steroid era.
  10. They were from 4-10 lbs. no give up on them today. Drag screamers. My wrist is sore.
  11. With the calm seas we saw an opportunity to try vertical jigging off the Catt with Steel Shad blade baits and Berkely Finishers. Only one bass and one walleye but holy cow we caught some big reef sheep. Apparently, the rollover kill did not put as big a dent in the population as I thought.
  12. I am pretty sure I have been epigenetically altered to preferably fish for salmon.

  14. I don’t think any scientist worth their salt doesn’t think genetics doesn’t play a role in traits. Not sure why our fish managers are fighting this. It is a very easy policy/workflow to create and follow during egg collecting time at Altmar …don’t take eggs or sperm from fish under 17 lbs. Done. This follows the stated policy of lake managers to manage Lake Ontario for a trophy fishery. They are not following their own stated objectives by milking two year olds.
  15. Theory says more bait, less predators = bigger predators
  16. It’s about time you got to Erie this year!!
  17. If I was fishing this time of year the first place I would look for staging fish would be 80-120’ off microwave tower. If cold water pushes in, look shallower. If East wind comes a calling, look for duck weed aggregations West of port. The pen reared fish will be looking for home water smell - hence looking for duckweed. Active biting fish are hit or miss in bath water so a good first place to start is where cool water intersects with bottom.
  18. This is the rig I have been looking at to replace my fiberglass boat. I would love to hear your opinion/experiences on the 2250. Feel free to PM me if you would prefer. Nice rig!
  19. Anyone hunting the southern tier, you will find wide differences this year with local food sources place to place. Some blocks have everything…apples, acorns, beech, hickory, and some will have none. Do your due diligence this year! Lots of bear sign.
  20. Tons of fish off the Catt still. From the shoal out front 48’ out 72’. Everyone is catching. We fished the shoal for more sporty fight. Three way rigs and downriggers with small worm harnesses. Two man limit in 1.25 hrs. Lots of bait in upper water levels with hooks down around 20’ that we didn’t even bother with. Plenty of meat on that bone. Get out there!
  21. Why didn’t you drive the fish downstream back to the lake to keep the good times rolling???👍
  22. Both lakes have flipped. Looks like Erie is rebounding today
  23. Nice ride! Your friend probably came to the same conclusion, the same way I did ….while on my back putting new bottom coat on my boat. I am getting too old for maintaining a fiberglass boat. I will be putting my Bayliner up for sale at some point next year after I have fully broken in my new motor. Going aluminum multi-species with an outboard.
  24. You need to go fishing
