  1. More dropsies drivebys today but still good action. Top fish was 23.8 lbs. I lost my readers in the boat so when I weighed the fish on the boat I thought the scale read 28 lb +. Quick rack and stack to head the scales only to find out my eyes ain’t what they used to be lol 😂. The girl weighing it looked at me like I was a clown.
  2. FOW = 150-175’. I will keep the port of exit to myself-derby time.
  3. Nope, no hooksets allowed on boat lol. Just a good old wire dipsy rip with some violent head shakes.
  4. The boys wanted to try for kings today and wow what a bite! Highlight was landing a triple on majors while a freighter was bearing down on us. Hot were 68’ rigger with a stingray green glow alewives spoon, meat rig on 80’ rigger, nuclear green spinny with a hammer fly (yes, that combo from yesteryear), and a green dot echip with a hypnotist fly on divers. Would have been a hell of a tournament box with 24,23,22,21,20,19 lb matures plus a bunch of big two year olds. One strange 50 lb leader snap off occurred mid-leader on what looked like perfect 50 lb Seaguar blue label. Does fluoro go bad over time? I had last minute pulled out some hammer flies that had stopped producing in 2014 when the lake cleared from bad winters. They have sat in my basement,in a box, out of the sun but perhaps fluoro ages? Anyone have any similar experiences with older fluoro?
  5. Finally got my boat wet for some derby action. New to me is a Penn Yan 18’ 1978 with the original Chrysler outboard. Not sure how I became a two boat owner but I was running out of places to put all my lures so I said what the hey. With the snotty morning forecast we bought or time and waited for the wind to die down. Me and my two brothers in a 1978 boat with no fishfinder, no speed and temp and used OnX for gps. It didn’t take long to find some dandy browns and the second fish was 14 lbs on the scale. Nobody wanted to run in because the bite was on. Lost track of time and when I checked to see when the local weigh stations closed I realized we were not going to make it. Oh well, the ice cream on the way home and time spent with my brothers was priceless.
  6. Despite reports of Lake Ontario flipping, it would appear based on the surface temp charts the dog days of summer are still here.
  7. Reminder about sunset bay shootout this weekend. Consider your port of departure carefully
  8. Haha 😂. The inspection takes an hour because it was interrupted by fish.
  9. How were the biting flies? They were brutal off Sturgeon. We spent more time swimming than fishing
  10. Great dock! Which finger lake are you on?
  11. 62-65’. Probably best to head West a little before you set down
  12. Great memories and photos with the kids. That double is priceless
  13. Over 12 mph you will start to feel uncomfortable. Timing is everything. If you have calm seas to start, head SW for 5-7 miles, turn around and troll back with following building seas. Check weather.com and click on the hourly icon and you will get the timing of the wind by the hour.
  14. Ya, I don’t understand the whole “too many deer in NYS” stance the DEC takes. Other than around major population centers of cities, the carrying capacity of deer is no where near exceeded. I look at browse whenever I am in the woods in the winter chasing small game and the evidence for overpopulation is just not there. My experience hunting in other states confirms to me there is room for expansion of the NY deer herd.
  15. There probably are some bass inside the harbor but you will not be tapping into the main schools of walleye unless you are out on the lake.
  16. That look like a coho and is what most are catching out there. Important to be able to identify between the two similar looking fish because each has different size and creel limits. One good way is to look at the tail. If there are spots all over the tail- trout. If there are only spots on the upper, dorsal half of the tail- coho. Great job introducing a new young angler to the sport!
  17. Reports from the weekend have been OUTSTANDING. Any worries about mayfly blues have been proven wrong. Limit catches from everyone from Pennsylvania to Buffalo. Fish from Ohio appear to be here from their long journey and have empty stomachs. There are certainly fish on the bottom to catch but the majority are being reported from 10’-30’ down suspended. You absolutely do not need to dirty your boat with worms as stickbaits are working just fine. Parking lots that were empty last weekend were full this weekend so plan accordingly. GO GET’EM and do your part to save a baitfish’s life.
  18. Catching kings is a challenge this year. Still a coho bite. Had my first outing on Ontario this morning. Action was out around 300’
  19. Word of big mayfly hatch happening. Stomachs and fishfinder screens full of them.

    Cayuga Their BACK

More important than fleas on your line, how many fish were on your lines?
  21. The DEC has a proposal that would allow for private land owners to have unlimited DMP tags. Please take time to make your opinions known https://dec.ny.gov/news/press-releases/2025/6/dec-proposes-changes-to-deer-hunting-regulations
  22. Adam are you taking the rear treble off and extend a stinger or tying the stinger off the rear treble?
  23. Ha! Maybe. 🤔
