  1. I would watch your hands. There are some nasty bacterial fish borne infections you could get from handling fish. I had it once from Cayuga lake Lakers. Extremely painful. I know a charter captain in Oswego that has it bad right now. His finger is pictured below. I am not saying this is what the fish has. As stated by Rob, probably an old injury but flesh eating bacteria exist.

    Lake Erie bite

Steady bite this morning off Catt. on worm harnesses.
  3. Yes, you definitely took it to the limit …man… I would have thought fish would be in tight with the NE wind. Was the lake turning over at all?
  4. Good luck with your sale and retirement Glenn. Maybe you will jump back into the pro/am circuit like the “old days”. Are you selling your business or just retiring? Maybe someone would want to buy everything along with the business?
  5. If you can pull up on YouTube the Bass events that have been broadcast, you should be able to gleam some intel from the way and where the pros were fishing for them. From what I remember, guys were deep dropshotting in areas that had rock and some weeds.
  6. A couple years ago I was trolling for salmon and trout on Lake George. I was in the middle of the lake and couldn’t keep the bass off my leadcore with spoons. I couldn’t buy a bite on all the classic rock structure along the shore with spin tackle. At some point smallmouth determine the investment in calories to go roaming for bait outweighs pecking at crayfish in the rocks.
  7. Awesome trip! I had to pass the barb through on my nose once due to my buddy’s back cast with a Rebel Crawdad. Good news is it didn’t hurt.
  8. It is a needed ID to learn as the length requirement to keep an Atlantic is much stricter than the other species. Ya don’t want to get dinged by the popo 👮‍♀️
  9. Thanks for the report. Ya can’t win them all Rick! Funny how the mood of the fish along with the accompanying body changes of the spawn can effect hook up rates. We noticed most of our stagers caught over the weekend were hooked in the bottom jaw and tongue area instead of the usual corner of the mouth. An equally exciting and frustrating time of the year.
  10. I am not an expert on Cayuga but I have fished for bass on a few of the bigger fingers. I would look for deep water around points. They are more pelagic than largemouths and chase alewife schools but they probably feel more comfortable with some rock under them. Derp points allow for ambushing alewives while chewing on crawdads.
  11. Is that why he had to take his shirt off? Better start training for deer dragging season.
  12. Army corp of engineers did the work. Agreed that for the disabled, the elderly and people that drink too much, the rocks present a challenge. Take your time climbing around and you can find some flat spots to cast.
  13. Nice 👍. That king looks like he would be a derby winner next year.
  14. Small fish this year. Winning team this weekend only had a 15.5 lb average. Another LOC fall winner below 30 lbs. https://pubs.usgs.gov/publication/70204588 I think this will be the last year class of kings that were negatively effected by the 2015 winter/alewife hatch. Poor alewife spawn 2015 results - lower number of adult alewives to create babies in 2019 - to feed the year-one king plants in year 2000 (theory).
  15. Two fish today on rattling silver horde plugs. Off by 11:30. That’s a wrap for the year! Ironically I pulled the plug on the season after our mag dipsy snagged a fellow fisherman’s weighted steel junk line pulling a Kevorkian Spin Doc (Dr Kevorkian reference- the OG plug puller). I don’t recommend running junk lines on the Niagara drop due to traffic and changing currents. That weighted steel line snakes more like leadcore. Our boats were not that close and yet his line was drifting way south on strong north to south down current. I was able to return the trollers gear. All fish were returned to swim again. All told we caught 32 fish over four days that we really had to grind for. Hours spent trolling over heavy marks while waiting for those subtle clues to trigger a flurry. Meat rotted mostly- taking only a few fish. Spoons sucked. It has been mostly a flasher fly and plug bite to catch this class of three year olds. I will say good riddance to this graduating class. This was the COVID class that only had Oak Orchard, Olcott and Niagara pen projects plus no lamprey treatments. Cormorant harassment had not started yet upon pen release. These 3’s have always presented short and fat. Not sure if it was lamprey effect (lots of scars) or less feeding in captivity due to COVID restrictions or a late jump to size because of a poor YOY class of alewives that year. One thing for sure, they are moody as stagers!!!
  16. They didn’t want Lymans either. Believe me I tried. Lakewide lockjaw from East to West. I wish I knew the magic formula other than approaching fronts.
  17. Only a couple of kings today off the bar so far. Trolled over probably 10,000 fish. Frustrating. I have not seen anyone’s net move and mostly everyone has left
  18. Weather is supposed to get nautical tomorrow by 2 pm
  19. You can’t sell out on any one program. Fish trigger preferences change moment to moment. Yesterday plugs. Today they wanted flasher fly. Put out a nice diverse spread and see what they want in the moment
  20. White silver horde customized with a UV ladder sticker across the back
