    I think Captain Hanley would like to be out fishing perch with his clients right now but can’t because of the ice. His business is affected by the boom. He also lives near the Lake Erie shore, he knows his heating bill is higher. Before the power authority could renew their last lease and place an ice boom, the power company paid the local government a good chunk of coin because they knew the boom has a negative affect on home heating bills.

    I do mostly C&R on trout and salmon and those smaller fish mangle themselves on trebles. I think the smaller ones are more suited for the box.

    Glad to hear about Emeralds! Every trib and ditch around here used to have runs that you could dip for them. They are gone from most places since the bad winters of 2014,15 where VHS reared its head. I hope they make a comeback. Critical species.

    Fished the Wilson and Olcott piers for a bit this morning hoping the approaching front would have them chewing. No fish caught plus the absence of any Seagull poop on either pier has me believing the bait is still off the bank a ways. One boat seen off Olcott that held up two skinny Browns. No ice around and the water looked great.

    The milfoil removal I have seen was paid for by a trust. In Skaneatles they remove the stuff by hand with divers. We may reach a point where we need to have a fishing tournament to support Lampricide treatments.

    When you have run out of ideas of lures to buy, you can always look in Europe. $19 per lure so I won’t use these to bounce off any structure but wow Rapala Europe has some great paint jobs. Darkagelures.com.

    Let’s hope all those three year old Canadian kings last year left some bait in the lake. I was a little concerned with what I saw on my trek into the Niagara gorge Saturday. Zero seagulls or any other fish eating birds were present. I have never seen that situation in my decades of going down there. Let’s hope the bait runs are ahead or behind and not a sign of the times.

    We are so far below the carrying capacity of the land in NYS for deer due to all the doe permits handed out plus the harsh winters in the Adirondacks. Adirondack deer numbers are already at a low .5 deer per square mile. Do we want that number lower?? My trips to Kansas are eye opening. Kansas gives you one buck tag and one doe tag. There are deer everywhere and they are not starving…. they are quite healthy. Our agriculture lands are much more lush and fertile in NYS. Other than no-hunting zones around cities/towns, the deer population has room for expansion plus allow for older age structure. Check out Minnesota forums on how they feel about wolves. People don’t bother hunting the northern part of the state anymore due to wolf predation. Nor has wolves prevented disease in those areas.
