  1. I think I will set up more 2 colors.
  2. Its funny how certain areas of the lake prefer one type of color or one type of flasher and I think there is actually something to the discrepancies from the West end compared to the East end. For example, fishermen seem to prefer green protroll paddles and flies on the East end of the lake. Conversely, West-enders generally use more Spin Docs and have more of a variety of colors that work. My only take on the differences between the two areas is the water clarity. Come summer the water off Oswego is warm, and loaded with nutrients to an almost yellow/green color. Perhaps the protroll with its Echip clicking allows for the fish to find the bait in the more turbid water of the East end? So when purchasing your paddles, consider what port you are fishing out of.
  3. I believe the finals are today at 2 pm on Outdoor Network. I enjoy watching the stress unfold on these events
  4. Ahhhh Burt Island.........where dreams are made.
  5. These are Pennsylvanians feeding deer.
  6. Here is two years ago....
  7. Alfalfa is more like browse. Peel open a bud on any sapling....that is what they are eating. A little green...a little brown plant material. I would be leery of corn from everything I have read. Notice the bait piles shown on those big Saskatchewan deer hunting shows are bales of Alfalfa.
  8. Illegal in NY. Now if you were to lets say.....put up a giant "bird feeder" that would be ok. Of course bales of Alfalfa is great for soil erosion too.
  9. Can only help in stained water. Classics such as Storm Thunderstick Jr, Rattlin' Rogues, Bombers, Rapala Husky Jerks, and my favorite Renoskys all clobber fish in the spring..... then again so do spoons (no rattle). Fish are stupid in the spring.
  10. All that time in the saddle...you truckers always get hemi-roids.
  11. I am going to pull my Redass card on this thread. Jeepers you guys have cabin fever!
  12. Compare to last years chart. Differences I noticed. Last year the last bit of 40 degree water persisted longest off Rochester....and no surprise they had Kings and the West end had less than usual. This year, the 40 degree water was persistent longest in it's "usual" location offshore in Niagara County. So....hopefully we will have the usual overload of Kings waiting for us West-enders come May.
  13. I believe Capt. Samia posted something on his blog last year about lead length off a downrigger ball and the effect on the flasher's rotation diameter as observed on underwater camera. I believe he said it was similar to what happens with a kite when you decrease the lead length you increase the whip action......I think.
  14. Ya that will catch fish.....esp. west of Rochester.
  15. Be careful out there as there is new open water areas on north shore.
  16. I was wondering if all the different colors that pop out of the pattern would either lite-up kings into a frenzy or make them cross-eyed and confused. I am worried now it is the later as nobody has commented on the pattern. I am picturing a couple hundred LOU members staring cross-eyed (more cross-eyed than normal actually) at their computer screen......maybe I should not have posted the pictures. Come on !!!!!! I need stroking as these are my first attempts at tying trolling flies on bullet heads. OR . If the patterns are then .
  17. She has gone Isothermic. Kings going to take a little nap for a couple of months. Looks like the timing of Isothermy is similar to last year so.........get your leadcore set-ups ready for spring.
  18. This is the latest in the "got-to-have" materials.... lateral scale mirage that looks UNBELIEVABLE. Looks "purple" from the side but changes so many colors at different angles with a scale pattern that gives the pattern realism. Trying to get Tom Allen to produce these as I could not find the material in a banded form making it tedious to band each indivigual strand myself on double-sided tape. If you would like to see this material in a fly you should flood Tom Allen's PM box with requests ...hehehehe . First pattern is just the Mirage, the second is an Aqua-crinkle (little boy blue) over the mirage. The material is available in non-banded form at Cabelas...and it aint cheap. There is a "mountain-dew" looking version that the boys in Oswego might find interesting. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hareline-Lateral-Scale-Tying-Material/1791654.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dlateral%2Bscale%2Bflashabou%26x%3D10%26y%3D11%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=lateral+scale+flashabou&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  19. Agreed. My flies have four large 12mm beads and 30" leaders... more of a scoot and glide rather than a whip action.
  20. Great video aid.....and very clean cuticles for a fisherman!
