  1. Second the skin-so-soft, but it wears off and the flies know when it does! Have heard that Scope works great for spraying around your deck/porch to keep mosquito's away. Will have to try it on the boat. I know if your out hiking during "bug" season, put a fabric softener sheet in your shirt collar and you'll be fine. Haven't tried that on the boat yet either, but drastic times call for drastic measures!!!!! Shawn
  2. Got out for a couple hours till the rain came. Headed North to 100' and set up. Ran two riggers mupped at 95 and 85 with tranny's and mullato combos, and two wires, one out 210 with Mt dew spinny and green mirage and the other a green protroll with a purple mirage out 180. At about 130', the 180 wire fired first and we landed a nice 20lb king and later the 95 rigger fires as I decide to pull in lines with the dark clouds approaching and we land a 19lb king. Got soaked on the way in, but felt good with the heat. Steve's first LO King! Shawn
  3. Dremel tool with a cutting disc works great - nice clean cut. Shawn
  4. Nice pics!! Congrats on your success!! That's quite an accomplishment with a bow! Shawn
  5. Managed to get out for a couple hrs last night with my kids. Beautiful night and saw only one other "troller". Set up in 100' in front of the flats with riggers at 90' and 70' cheated. Wires out 170 with Mt dew spin doc and green mirage fly and 225' with white spin doc and purple mirage. Speed was 2.8-3.2 on the GPS. Trolled out to 150' and 225 wire goes with what appeared to be a steelie which got off while handing rod to my son  90' rigger with a NBK goes next and daughter Lauren's turn - small king lost it in prop wash - "easy release". Daughter Jenna lands a dink off the 90' NBK which we released. Quiet for awhile and move in to 125' and the 75' rigger goes with a purple/green custom taped spoon and Lauren lands a 6lb king . Soon after, Kevin lands a 8lb king on a green NBK down 80' - just had to outdo his sister! Next fish is a big king that hits the cheater on a 65' rigger - starts screamin out line and comes up to surface, shakes head, and breaks off Kids-3, Dad-0.....as it should be! Hopefully will get pics thing down and post them later. Shawn
  6. Nice Job, Scott!! Congrats!! I've got room in my freezer when yours is full!! Shawn
  7. Congrats on a nice weekend! The smiles tell it all! Shawn
  8. Welcome to the site! A lot of great people here willing to share a lot of great info. One word of advice - take notes - (sorry, that's two words) - it's easy to get overwhelmed with all the info! Enjoy, and good luck fishing! Shawn
  9. Went out on buddy John's boat and headed North out of port to 100' and set up trolling North. A lot of marks from 120-180' but no takers. One knock off at about 200' and then got into some in the 250 - 350' range. Went 6 for 9 with 2 coho's - 8 and 6lbs and 4 kings 5lbs and under. Lost a nice steelhead after some acrobatics. Spoon bite with purple and black combo's taking all the fish with riggers at 90', 60', and 45'. Speed was 2.8-3.2 on the GPS. Had two wires out with green spin docs and various green and purple flies anywhere from 80' - 225' of wire with no takers. Great night to be on the water and only saw a couple boats out???? Shawn
  10. WTG!! I'm sure your Dad had a blast too! Nice report. Shawn
  11. Luckily, when i saw it, I hadn't gotten to the boat yet! Imagine the turn-over of Meteorologists at our local tv stations if they were paid on commission for the number of times they were right! Even this morning, it looked like we were going to have a nice "window" to fish. Shawn
  12. The only thing that I've heard before is the last paragragh, which my Dad used to tell me when I was a kid (couple years ago-lol)
  13. Something interesting that was forwarded to me yesterday. Maybe someone here knows if this is "hogwash": TIPS ON PUMPING GAS I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are paying up to $3.75 to $4.10 per gallon. My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon: Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline.. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.< /B> A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. You should be pumping on low mode, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money. One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL. The reason for this is the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up; most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Shawn
  14. Irg355, You may want to post in the "Open seats/ Trade a trip" section. A lot of guys will look there. Good luck with everything!! Shawn
  15. After a lot of hard work and TLC (thanks Hank), I finally got my own ride splashed with the help of my Dad and twin daughters. Headed N/W out of port to 110' and played around with the boat and gear between 120' and 70' on a westerly troll. Picked up one small king in 80'- 60' down on a purple ladder back Pro-King that my daughter Jenna landed and released to grow - her first LO King! Hopefully Dad's pics will turn out! Didn't have a lot of time today and the few fish marked seemed scattered from 30' to 70'. Great to be out there, especially with Dad and the kids and the boat running well. Hope to get out there again this week and concentrate more on fishing Shawn
