  1. Did cube steaks again this year with a hand cranker really easy and delicious. Really helps tenderize the meat and allows marinade to penetrate. Add Best marinade mix ever https://therecipecritic.com/worlds-best-steak-marinade/
  2. Based on the rule book I dont see anywhere that says it has be visible on social media. So I think we are all safe.
  3. Yea definitely unbelievable but this guy built my garage 2 years ago and my buddy green scored it @ 200 6/8" the day he shot it. You will see more of this buck. Exact details lacking but no doubt its real.
  4. Whoa that a beauty! I must be hunting a different state..:) clearly shows what age can do. It's a tough game getting attached to free range bucks. Iv been there. Hope the guy worked as hard as you did to get him. I lost one to a weekend Wally that spends 3 days a year in the woods and 0 time practicing he took a hell mary on a push and hit it in the ass. That's a tough one to swallow knowing how much time i put in and obsessed over him. No doubt another one will fill his tracks. AndI'm sure we are all guilty of shooting someone elses buck.
  5. #dreamseason! Just when you think it's never going to happen. I have been hunting hard and not seeing anything near a shooter .. a lot of 4 -6 hr sit with 0 deer . It gets discouraging and will break you if you let it. Well tonight with heavy wind I decided to sit low on my clover plot 4 doe came out at 3:30 and ate there way to the top, they got spooked and darted figured the caught my wind then I look up and see a buck nose to the ground backtracking the doe. He gave me a 60yd broadside shot and I dropped him dead in his tracks. I dont feel so stupid for wasting time in a stand anymore. I run 6 trail cams and never seen this buck. Got a 10 with bow and a 10 with the gun not breaking records books but by far my best season.
  6. Wow that hurts. Been there ! If he was a good friend I would think a $500 gift card to black and blue would be a minimum gift.
  7. Holy moly those are some great bucks.
  8. I have shot near 20 with100gr rage compound. most drop within sight, I have had quite a few not even flinch take a few steps tail flicker and drop dead. But I have many buddys that swore them off for ever also
  9. Gator my buck was 151lb field dressed. I boned it out myself for a total of 42lb of clean boneless meat. *Not counting the straps and loins
  10. lucked out early this year! OCT 7th , i had 0 motivation to get out and sit on Sunday,i spent all day Saturday trying to get my nephew a youth hunt deer in the rain to no avail. Sunday evening i tinkered around the house until my wife insisted i get out of her hair. finally i convinced myself to just get in a tree and enjoy the relaxation. i headed to the hardwoods with mostly red and white oak , the stand put the NE wind in my face. i was txting with a buddy joking how it was a nice night to watch squirrels.we were both convinced this was night was a wash. at around 5:40 i hear crunching behind me (down wind) !?! i can see some legs in the brush and some horn but wasint convinced it was a shooter. he was crunching acorns at 25yds but still didint get a great look at him with all the foliage. then he finally took a few more steps towards me stuck his nose up in the air and started licking his lips .. i said oh S*IT he's on to me its now or never.. just as he started t do the turn and burn i snapped one off like i was shooting a recurve. and drilled him in the boiler room , he crashed hard got up and crashed again then it went silent. it happened so fast my heart never even raced .. it was almost like did that really happen moment. Best of luck to all this season !
  11. I would consider invasive plants like australian phragmites much easier to grow then fussy natives. Kidding of course but I have ovisosly considered it myself due to its cost and duribilty it would be hard to beat of your goal is to make solid screen cover fast. But obviously their are many other eco friendly reed and switchgrass types. Right now I do a winter mowing on my natiive golden rod then a light disking. it's nearly 6' tall right now and the deer seem to love it as edge cover. If you take the thuway down twards dunkirk they are using a type of hybrid willow for snow fence it's thick and grows fast seems like it would be great but again water is key.. One thing I found is don't mow around new tree bare root plantings add a shove of wood chips and let the grass grow around it. It helps shade and hold moisture longer in the hot sun. I have also taken bare root trees from the DEC stock in the spring and planted them in 1 gallon containers baby them all summer then plant them in the fall with about 10x more success rate but also more work digging a hole. But what the heck do I know I still have a buck tag and frozen fingers typing this.. But to enjoy the habitat improvements as much as the hunting and have seen benifets to all wildlife.
