Anyone on some advice/guidance on fishing the Canal? Live in the Henrietta are and going to litterally be a stones throw away from it when move down around River Rd, this April/May. Want to take the boy for some general fishing. Any advice - can you just thrown anywhere on the canal or certain areas in/around the Henrietta area???
Thank YOu!
Silver Lake on Saturday was very slow. Couple VERY SMALL gills at pace of one an hour and that was my buddy catchin, NOT ME! Heard Conesus was not much better on Sunday? Any updates for the area (Silver, Conesus, Honeyoe)?
Take a look at this beauty caught by (turned 8 years old, yesterday) son. He received the new Ugly Stick closed face combo for his birthday from my brother, his Uncle Jay. All he wanted for his birthday was to go fishing, so took him to Gravel Ponds in Scottsville (membership required campgrounds, if interested - real nice place).
Well you can see the result. Bobber down, he hooked it and brought it in.
So proud of my little man!!!
What/Where is "Bob's Bait Shop?" and why moving? I stopped there on my way to silver last month and they had a GREAT assortment of live bait. 3 sizes of minnons (Small, Bass, and Pike), Nightcrawlers, and Crayfish. Plenty of tackle to pick from too.
WAY OVERDUE in that area and hope EVERYONE will consider supporting this local business.
Anyone have any recent trip updates from Conesus Lake? Wondering how they are hitting out there?
Went out to Silver Lake back a week ago and fished the weed lines with my 7 year old with nightcrawlers and flathead minnows. Caught some nice sized perch, and of course the regular blue gills and rock bass, but that was it. Little slower than expected, but was nice day. Parked outside the weed line of where the old YMCA camp was over there.
Did not fish 4th. I did however fish in Old Forge Pond, which is the beginning of chain that feeds into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and believe 4th lake. The fish in that area are TINY. In the end, just kept casting, catching VERY small panfish and occasional Smallmouth Bass, but enjoyed the scenary MUCH better than the fishing.
From all my research and some experience up there, if you're looking Pike or Bass, think you want to concentrate on Old Forge Pond through 4th Lake or make the trip up to Raquette Lake or Cranberry, but in the end, the fishing is MUCH/MUCH/MUCH better here around the Finger Lakes......
So back and same as past years.....TONS of tiny and I mean tiny Perch, Sunfish, Blue Gills, and Rockbass on 7th Lake. Caught a couple small, smallmouth bass as well on 7th lake. RNSURF, i'd stay away for 8th lake, if I was you and you want to catch fish. 7th Lake, and Old Forge Pond through 4th lake seemed to be best.
Anyone with any suggestions/hints/advice? Going to Old Forge next week, for a week. Normally fish 7th lake, and going to try 4th lake this year. Really want to target Pike first and Bass second. Not much into the Trout/Salmon fishing......
Appreciate anything provided...
Looking for any suggestions on how to catch some real fish up near Old Forge. Would like to target Largemouth/Smallmouth Bass and/or Pike. May try 4th lake this year, normally fish 7th lake and catch only small panfish. Any advice/hints/recommendations? Would love to hit a pond up that way stocked......
Anyone know if he will be stocking Pike Minnows? Found out the old man on 15 passed (Art). That guy was a staple for Pike Minnows every single year and going to miss stopping to see him and chat for a little bit.
Anyone try the Bullheads either at the inlet or North Shores of Conesus yet? I tried last Thursday, but not a bite. Knew it was way too early, but thinking anytime over the next week, it should start to pick up.
Thanks,
Went to Conesus on Thursday 4/4. Pike appear to be almost done spawing, most of them saw, were closer to the lake/mouth of the inlet. The WALLEYE have made their way up the inlet though and are in full spawn.
Any updates on whether they are catching the bullheads there in the inlet yet? Assume too early....usually need a week of good warm weather first.
Also very interested to hear when people see the spawn start.
