  1. the birds are out there, hit 1/3 saturday morning
  2. going to try this weekend, anybody been out yet?
  3. it's a shame , but i see hunting becoming a sport for a weathy few. my grandfather used to walk to school with his 22, and was on the school rifle team. my son has to go out of state or break the law to use his 22.my friend leases land from wealthy lawyer from jersey. he has to hunt with poachers, or spend half the day with the dec filing reports. the days of knocking on doors and sharing game are all but over. I can't blame landowners for not wanting people on their property. hunting with firearms is a big responsibilty. if your a responsible shotgun hunter, using a rifle should not change things that much. the anti's and the media are my biggest fear. rifles scare people, plain and simple. everytime some meathead does something stupid, it will be front page news. the truth is hunting is about the safest sport ,even when using rifles. driving to your favorite spot or sitting on your couch eating corndogs watching football has a greater risk of killing you. it won't take long for some do gooder to take guns "off the streets".
  4. times are tight in our house, i've hunted for twenty years and just don't have the time and money to hunt 50 days a year anymore. i have a miltary/law enforcement background and consider myself to be a ethical hunter. i've felt the squeeze to put meat in the freezer with limted time afield. i'd rather spend the season bowhunting, but last season, it was a few weekends with the single shot slug gun. it's tough to find land to hunt without spending a grand. i hunted public land out west, and saftey wise i'd say it's about the same as the east. people out west tend to stay put and take longer well placed shots. i see more people in the east doing sketchy drives and still hunting. both have drawbacks. my friend lost his eye hunting last season from a shotgun.
  5. fished friday night for a few hours. a decent amount of people, no fish landed that i saw or heard about. wind was nasty on the pier, most people packed up early
  6. i have rifles from when i lived out west. there a tool. 22lr kill people everyyear. i rather see someone use a rifle, and take accurate shots, than grind away with more basic weapons. honestly , i don't care what people use as long as there responsable. if my grandfather wants to use his 30-30 he should have a season to do so. if u want to shoot deer with the latest and greatest rifle that's fine too. hunters are a dying breed, i just hope my son has half the oppertunities i've had to hunt and fish.
  7. could u ease up a bit, i seem to be getting all your bad luck sent to my address.
  8. buck pond is a mess, there's a group of old timers that pound it several times a week. they shoot everything. sorry i don't have any good spots
  9. my uncle took me to that creek when i was a kid, caught a tiger musky that day with my hands.
  10. sustainable harvest makes sense, celebrating god's gifts should be encouraged. At the same time ,respect the fishery and harvest reasonable numbers of fish. carp ,glad u shared . sportsman have enough issues to deal with, lets not be so quick to judge ourselves.
  11. noticed they were messing with the flow today, water dropped a good four feet at times. i talked to a rge guy on the river and he said they don't know when the turbine is going to be up and running again. it would be nice if they could keep the flow low .
  12. hey slimy must have seen u monday. don't understand whats going on the goat trail side. three of us were fishing weds morning for a few hours. not even a hook up. guys fishing the pond and falls doing great. adam fishes the river 4 days a week and he got skunked using skein. i tried sacs and flies nothing. my friend threw spoons nothing. almost felt like wadeing across the river. the river was empty on our side. saw a group on a drft boat land a steelhead and they said they lost one.
  13. i've caught two walleye on egg sacs this year and caught a monster on blue silver cleo. the russians are there every day. the half dozen times i have gone down ther this year ,i've watched them snag and take limits of fish up the hill with them. don't know if they are zipping aand dumping fish in the water or not. i used to work at a supermax prison, still would rather not piss off a dozen big guys. my phone got fried a week ago. i'm going weds morning with a friend. i'll give dec a call i'm sure they will be there.i've heard they get busted every year and they don't really care.
  14. nice job, tried to take the boy ( down the goat trail. the mist from the falls was brutal, called it quits and made him pancakes when we got home
  15. fishing was slow, over 40 people fishing past the bridge. a guide and his group were doing well under the falls (seth green side). young boy caught a real nice steelhead. i caught a nice walleye and had 5 hook ups on egg sacs. russians have been snagging in the meat hole hard. a lot of them have been using weighted snagging hooks and don't even try to hide it. the mist from the falls is bad. guess they know dec can't see them from the bridge. the run seems to have stalled. there doesn't seem to be that many fish and some of them are in bad shape. hopefully we will get some rain or cooler weather.
