  1. OOPS!! Never mind! Don't know how I missed it!
  2. Here's a refreshing bit of news from the DEC: You are subscribed to receive updates from DEC. Links to receive help or to change your preferences are provided below. Having trouble viewing this email? View it as a Web page. Hello, The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation has issued the following press release: DEC to Begin Sea Lamprey Control on Seneca Lake Tributaries on June 9 Treatments Will Enhance Lake Trout and Salmon Populations and Sizes A program to combat parasitic sea lamprey will begin the week of June 9th on Seneca Lake tributaries in Chemung, Schuyler and Yates counties, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Regional Director Paul D'Amato announced today. Efforts to control sea lampreys can reduce mortality rates for game fish that sea lamprey target, especially lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, and landlocked salmon, which are among the more popular fish for Seneca Lake anglers. Reducing the number of sea lampreys will also lead to fewer unsightly scars and wounds on sportfish. Typically, immature sea lampreys live in streams for three to four years before they become parasitic, descending into the lake to prey on other fish, like trout and salmon. Under the sea lamprey control program, a lampricide called TFM (3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophenol) will be applied to the streams in a continuous manner over a period of approximately 12 hours to kill the immature, larval form of sea lamprey. TFM is a selective pesticide developed in the 1950s that has been used extensively to control sea lamprey in the Great Lakes. This lampricide has been applied to Seneca Lake tributaries since 1982. Dosage levels of TFM that are lethal to larval sea lampreys can be harmlessly processed by most other aquatic organisms. Following an environmental impact statement (EIS) and public hearing prior to the start of the sea lamprey control program, DEC concluded that the program offers an effective and immediate measure for protecting the native lake trout populations in Seneca Lake. DEC further concluded that the project will not have any significant impacts to the environment or non target organisms exposed to the lampricide; however, some minor fish and aquatic invertebrate mortality may occur. The stream treatments do not pose any human health threats, but a precautionary measure, the State Health Department has advised people not to consume stream water from the treated tributaries and avoid fishing, swimming, livestock watering or irrigation in the treatment zone during and immediately following applications. Precautionary signs will be posted along the treated streams. On June 9th, weather permitting, DEC will begin to treat waters inhabited by juvenile sea lampreys in Catharine Creek and tributaries from the Chemung/Schuyler County line to Montour Falls. If weather conditions are not suitable, treatment may be postponed till later in the week or the following week.
  3. Don't forget there's a Pro/Am tournament on the west end this weekend.
  4. Here you go. It's on their web site. Jim
  5. Of the seventy-three boats entered, twenty-five brought in fish to the weigh station. Definitely a tough day on the water. Most boats were in search mode the whole morning! There were a lot of fish caught, but they were the wrong ones.
  6. The alewives in Wilson Harbor yesterday reminded me of Asian carp, They were flying out of the water as you passed in your boat! The gulls were having a feast! Jim
  7. According to Wikipedia, it's not unusual for Alewives (Moon eyes) to have a seasonal die off. Back in the 50's as a kid growing up in Oswego, I can remember the 'silver band' all along the lake shore composed of dead alewives. You could hardly get close to the shore because of the stink. It lasted about a week or two. Jim
  8. See you there! When did the pens go in?? I missed it. Jim
  9. I was there this morning. The bay is free on the west side its entire length. But the flow ice is all jammed up in the north east corner making the state boat launch unusable. The chute was open- as long as the winds don't shift again. Looks like another three or four days of good weather, and it will all be gone. Jim
  10. Hi Tom, Have you confirmed the date and time yet (April 5th from 9 to 11a.m.)? I'm assuming the east side marina. Thanks, Jim
  11. The bridge was supposed to by closed yesterday at 9 a.m. The channel should be wide open by now. Jim
  12. I was there Saturday, before the blow. Both channels have open water (Sterling Creek and Little Sodus Bay). But the rest is still pretty solid ice. The state launch is still socked in. People were ice fishing just south of the launch. With the steady northeast wind gusts and rain that fell Saturday, the shore ice has been hit pretty hard. Jim
  13. I was at the north end of Sodus Bay Saturday. The channel is wide open, and boat launch at the Coast Guard station is clear of ice (no dock though). So, for the hearty with a small boat, go for it! Jim
  14. Mr. Clean, What a difference a day makes! I just returned home from Rochester, and came home via Lake Road from Irondequoit Bay to Sodus Bay. There is NO flow ice to be seen on the lake from Irondequoit Bay to east of Pultneyville! Irondequoit Bay channel, Bear Creek, and Sodus Bay channel are all wide open! There is still some flow ice east of Sodus Bay. Of course, a good north wind could bring it all back. Jim
  15. rbonnell, the street address is 6690 South Bay Road. Once you turn on to South Bay Road from route 31, the South Bay Association is 1.4 miles ahead on the right. Jim
  16. Vladimir, Once again, I enjoyed the video. I purchased your first CD 'Walk in no Civilization' and my wife and I both enjoy the music. Are you getting close to releasing the second CD? Your daughter is very talented. Jim
  17. Hey Tim, Jake and I will help, where needed. Jim
  18. Great video, Vladimir! That looks like beautiful country. Where were you, and what's the name of the River? Jim
  19. YUM!! That looks delicious! But only one each wouldn't be enough for me!! Nice video. Jim
  20. Your wife and family are in our prayers Blueghost1. Jim
  21. Happy birthday Andy!! Enjoy the day (unless you are working in someones flooded cellar!) And a belated congratulations on your wedding. :flower: Jim
  22. OOPS!! I missed it!! Happy belated birthday Bob!! Hope it was a good one! Jim
  23. Since Musky Bob introduced this recipe back in 2007, I've been making it at least four times a year. I use salmon once in a while, but most of my requests are for 'clam' chowder. Just substitute six cans of minced clams for the fish and you have the best clam chowder you've ever eaten!! I've passed the recipe on to at least a dozen friends, relatives and friend of relatives. I haven't found anyone who doesn't love it! Thanks again Bob! Jim
