  1. Les, Glad to hear you had some activity this time out on Canandaigua! If you ever need someone to tag along to Seneca i would be more than happy to join you, just give me a call sometime (i may or may not be available, but if i am i'll be there )
  2. Congratulations Chas! Sounds like it was a great day on the water, those are some awesome fish!
  3. Sounds like a nice night on the water! Good luck on your trip this weekend.
  4. Welcome to the site LooseEye! Everyone on here is very helpful and will generally answer just about any questions you have. I've learned just about everything i know about trolling from the guys (and gals) on here. Use the search to look up old posts, and if you can't find what you're looking for don't hestitate to ask questions. Good Luck Sean
  5. Thanks for all the responses! I will definitely look into all of these.
  6. I should probably add that i do all of my trolling on the finger lakes, so i won't be using this set-up for kings on Lake O at all.
  7. Just wondering if there is any place to buy these without spending $100-125 a piece on them?? Obviously i want something of good quality as i'll probably use one of them on each side for my dipsies, but i've only seen them online for over $100 (haven't looked too much yet). Thanks, Sean
  8. That quote came from the Bowfishing for Carp section of the DEC Website too, just to clarify. P.S. --- Nice Carp!!
  9. From the DEC Website --- "No person shall discharge a firearm or long bow within 500 feet from a dwelling house, farm building or farm structure actually occupied or used, school building, school playground or occupied factory or church." Additionally, many local jurisdictions have ordinances that prohibit the discharge of a firearm (including long bows) within their jurisdiction. As far as bow fishing for carp at night with a spot light, i did not find any information on whether that was legal or not.
  10. Caught this smallmouth on Saturday with a 3/8 oz Jig bouncing bottom in the rapids. Didn't have a scale or tape measure with me but i'd guess it was around 17"
  11. The best launch ramp story i have was in Hammondsport. I had just pulled through the gate and there was a guy there with a video camera on a tripod taping his son who was sitting on a jet ski (still on the trailer) --- which was hooked to a very nice looking convertible. I didn't pay too much attention to the kind of car as i was more interested in what what going on with the video camera and jet ski. The kid was sitting there rocking the jet ski back and forth trying to get it off the trailer without having to back the car into the water. The guy videotaping informed us that his son was working on a school project on "how to use a jet ski". Well after a few minutes of rocking back and forth to no avail, the guy told his son to go ahead and pull out of the water and let us launch. So the kid hops in the car and pulls out (not very slowly) and all of the rocking back and forth must have did something because the jet ski was teetering on the very back edge of the trailer bouncing up and down as he pulled ~50 feet forward. I kept thinking "i hope the dad is still videotaping this for the bloopers section of the video". Anyways he managed to keep the jet ski on the trailer and we had time to launch, park the truck, and take off up the lake before he ever got the jet ski off the trailer.
  12. I launched a 18' bass boat from the Waneta ramp last weekend. Like Nitro said, the water level is high right now. All i did was trim up and it was fine. If you are going to Waneta Lake the channel is much shorter and slightly deeper than the Lamoka channel. If you decide to go to Lamoka i'd be a little more careful.
  13. Nice job, Mike. Sounds like a great morning on the lake. I was on the South end of the lake Sunday evening, but must be they were all full by then. We marked fish all over at all depths, but only managed 3 lakers in 2 1/2 hours.
  14. Thanks for the offer Chas, if for some reason i don't get it fixed, i will let you know!
  15. Took the advice and dropped it off to a guy that specializes in trolling motors in the area. We shall see what the result is in about a week. My wife tries to tell me that i shouldn't go fishing so much, but i tend to disagree!
  16. Nice report, Lil Rippers. Sounds like it was a great day on the water!
  17. Can someone post a picture of the special mate boxes you are talking about? I have seen a couple of different designs labeled as special mate, but not sure which one you are referring to. Thanks!
  18. Thanks Les, i think i will take the suggestion of you and Finnlander and take it to a mechanic. I have a few names of people in the area so i will start calling!
  19. Thanks for the comments guys. The gas i use in it is non ethanol, and i got it from the pump this spring. I put a new gas line from the tank to the motor as well. I actually got thinking after i posted this that maybe i need to take a better look at the intake of the impeller and make sure that there isn't something stuck in there that's causing it to now circulate water. The only problem with the outflow is that it is located just about an inch or two above the propeller so it's underwater. I'm not sure how to check to see if it's got water coming out or not.
  20. The motor is a 1968 Johnson 5hp (2 stroke) and yes i was told to try using a 50-1 mixture for it because the first time i had it out it left a oil smoke cloud. When it seizes up, i notice that the motor is very hot under the cover, but if i let it set for a day and come back i can start it right back up again.
  21. So i took someone's advice and took my motor apart to check the condition of the impeller. Turns out the impeller was fine, but the key that holds it in place on the drive shaft was sheared. So i replaced the key, put new gaskets in and put it back together. I ran it in a barrel the other day to see how it would react. (Before replacing it, the motor would start fine, run for 2-4 minutes and then stall. When trying to start it again it would be seized right up and i couldn't even pull the cord). So the same thing happened again, it started right up, ran for a few minutes at trolling speed, then stalled and seized up. ANY ideas as to why this is happening??? I'm stumped.
  22. Thanks Profishient1. I think i will hold off on any investment for this year and see what the forthcoming information shows.
  23. Thanks for the advice guys. I am planning on running it in the chute, i do not have planer boards right now. I think i might go with a full core and split it into a 7 color and a 3 color as DJ717 suggested and see how that goes. Are there local shops that sell leadcore or do you have to order it online?
