  1. Around 30 foot back out in the lake. 5 to 10 foot back in a river. There's really no other difference with releases or anything special to do, just don't run cheaters with them.
  2. With J's or similar plugs that have the bead chain swivel that runs through them, be sure to NOT use a swivel....I know the hard way, that the plug becomes a giant lever to toss the hook. Tie directly to the plug. A deadly technique, if you have the room, is to run it way far back behind the boat off a planer board as a flat line. My favorites are the "Stairway To Heaven" plug and the Watermelon J Plug. Sam Zucco of Dream Catcher Charters is one of the finest plug fisherman out there. He seems to pop rods with them more than anyone else I know. He fishes out of the Genesee River and is a terrific guy! Good Luck

    Carp fishing

A great resource for the the "golden bonefish" is https://www.youtube.com/user/catfishandcarp This guy is the best!!! I've reached out to him from his website and he responds quick to help with questions. I get all my gear from www.bigcarptackle.com They are prompt and have the best stuff. I highly recommend the delkim alarms!!! I've caught many more fish using these over the other "roller" detection. These alarms have a little ceramic "v" that will not be set off by current or wind, only takes and even draw back bites. This week's hottest bait has been a basic cornmeal dough ball with a little bit of hazelnut coffee creamer added. They hit that more than the anise or straight up dough. Corn was second. Tight Lines!

    Carp fishing

I love this!!!! They are my favorite fish to go after and I am proud to admit it. I love the prep, the gear and the methods used. Half the fun is making the bait. Rochester is hosting it's first derby where carp are one of the main targets on September 10th. Lure For A Cure. I have prizes from FishUSA, Northport Nailer, and many others. Look under the tournaments for more details.
  5. Check Voyager Marine in Rochester. There's a Sea Ray Amberjack for sale with twins. One of the engines is newly rebuilt. The other may have issues. It's an 85. He also had another engine as I remember. You may still be able to find the boat on Craigslist. He may part with an engine.
  6. "BTB" Better than Bait available here. http://www.bigwatertackle.com/
  7. The Lure For A Cure derby is a go. We have been supported by FIshUSA, Northport Nailers, LOC Derbies and much more. Please pass this on to friends, family etc. I love carp fishing and got a nice 32 lber last week. There will be kings accessible off the pier too. I've been chumming the spot for days. I will also be bringing students down. We have volunteers to help teach beginners. Who's in???? This event can showcase our awesome harbor!!! Let's put Rochester on the map folks. Everyone talks about wanting a derby here. This small derby can grow and we have The American Cancer Society wanting us to do this. The town of Irondequoit wants us to do this!!!! Please let me know if you're interested. It's for a charity and you can win stuff. If you have suggestions, let me know them. I know it's last minute, but that's just how it came about!!!! 8. Here's the updated flyer for a great fishing derby. If you plan on fishing, please give a response or heads up. Larry Lure For A Cure Updated.pdf
  9. Hello all. Eric Carlson just contacted me about the derby. He is going to extend weigh in times for afternoon charters. Please try to attend this charity event and fish. Let's get a lot of kids lined up on the break wall at Summerville. Captains, sign up your guests to win a prize and some cash. Capt. Larry
  10. Hello everyone. The Port of Rochester has a small derby! I've been working with some very nice folks from the American Cancer Society. This is a small derby but should be fun and is for an amazing cause. The ACS has asked for more prizes and would love to have a charter donated to use as a prize. You can p.m. me if that is something you could do for them. For you shore anglers, there may or may not be kings around the Summerville pier at this time (I'm hoping there will be). I'm a teacher and will have volunteers lined up on the breakwall at Summerville between the O'llies and the Sheriff Station to help kids. I will chumming the area for carp all week without fishing for them at different times of day to keep the carp interested and coming back for this event. I got a 32 lber this week just across from there. We can also have a side thing for big fish. Let's try to participate in this event and offer them our support! I've been meeting with the Town of Irondequoit and others to plan a bigger event for the Port of Rochester next year. The ACS offers us a very nice umbrella to make that happen. Please try to fish this event! Captains are welcome to have clients sign up. Lastly, can we borrow someone's scale set up? Any volunteers? Captain Larry Hammond Lure For A Cure.pdf
  11. Thanks folks. I am lucky that a great friend of mine happens to live in Nantucket and has arranged to take me striper fishing and maybe a tuna trip. I really want to try that canal from shore. I saw how the current rips through there. It may be a good lesson on jigging with heavy stuff. I'm going to bring downrigger rods and 4000 size reels. I leave on the 20th for a 3 day trip. Tight Lines! Larry
  12. I was hoping there might be someone that knows the area and can put me on some fish either from shore or via boat. I will be there for a few days. Can you suggest gear to bring, lures, terminal tackle etc.? Thanks! Captain Larry Hammond
  13. I just ordered some tape for paddles/ spoons from Carl. I had questions and they were answered promptly and the ease of ordering was terrific. I read the report from Pap and he was right. Carl does a fine job! I highly recommend Mad River Sports. http://stores.ebay.com/Mad-River-Custom-Fishing-Tackle It's great to have him be "local" for us. The next shout out goes to Northport Nailers http://northportnailer.com/ If you haven't fished these for a few years, start! They are great running spoons and the paint is outstanding and highly resistant to chipping and abuse. I found that I can just call them and they send my spoons out right away. These spoons are extremely speed friendly. I know because I suck at speed control. You can run them slow with meat and even cowbells. They run great fast too. Tell them you saw it on LOU if you order! I'm trying to get them to distribute/advertise more to Lake Ontario. Hat's off to Captain Mike Pastore who is the one who taught me the magic of the Northport Nailers among a million other things! Tight Lines! Captain Larry Hammond
  14. If you plan on fishing Oswego, consider going on a trip with Captain Rich Demong to start your vacation. http://www.nyguideservice.com/about-us.html Fishing with Captain Rich aboard Seaduction is safe, amazing and invaluable. I truly believe, and I bet most guys will agree, the money spent on a good charter is smart money considering what we spend on gas and TIME finding fish and figuring out what they want. Going in on a charter with a few other guys cuts the cost dramatically. This guy catches fish and is a lot of fun to fish with. He will take the time to teach and explain the tactics that are working to ensure that when you go out on your own, you'll be set. Give Rich a call and tight lines! Larry "Henrybud"
  15. Chamberlains are a very cool release. You can reef down on them vertically but yet have them adjusted for even the lightest strike horizontally.
  16. It's a Larp. Lakers like corn too!
  17. The bait just came in today (6/3/16). S and R has it, South Bay will today today. Thanks folks! Tight Lines. Larry
  18. S and R Bait and Tackle and B-E Fishing do not have it yet. Weird. Anyone know where to find quality strips?
  19. I believe this great deed is contagious. The Genesee Charter Boat Association is going to plan something similar. Great job! I will post on how it goes. My 3rd graders had their first "Worm Olympics" last week. We conducted experiments to see who can collect the most bait in 30 minutes. The use of mild dish soap and dollar store bucket/shovels was deemed the most productive and fun. Mr. Hammond got free bait for the weekend too! A few years back, when I had 6th graders, we started our own bait business. The students called it "Ghetto Worms"'- "tougher than your average worm" and we collected, packaged and sold the worms to local shops to fund a trip to Sea Breeze. Keep up the great job with your club. Larry "Henrybud"
