  1. I love the rocket planer. Been wanting to try them myself
  2. Nope to self, Don't place your lures in a bag of Oily tuna AND leave it on your best friend's beautiful Thompson Fisherman in the bait well for a month. Don't ask me how I know this......Sorry Jack
  3. Charlie White- "In Search of the Ultimate Lure" and "Salmon Fever". I remember them well.
  4. Oops. That's supposed to be Mark Romanack who was the author of the article. http://www.lakeontariooutdoors.com/stories/news-story/cleanliness-is-next-to Check out his videos along with Troy's on Youtube. These are good guys and excellent fishermen.
  5. West coast guys have bottles of original Joy lemon scent on the boat at all times and wear latex gloves when handling lures and bait. Here's a great article from a great magazine. Kudo's to Troy! I would love to fish with him and learn!!! Mark Rominowski is a great fisherman too. I love the mag by the way! http://www.lakeontariooutdoors.com/stories/news-story/cleanliness-is-next-to
  6. They are ready to go. They need to be cleaned up a little, maybe a coat of paint on the pvc rod holders. One of the bases broke years ago when I hit the dock. It does not effect the performance at all. They work perfectly as they should. Swivel bases. You'll need to grab some new hardware (nuts and bolts) for mounting, but I always did anyway from boat to boat. They each come with 2 sections of 2 ft arms for a choice of running them as 2 footers or 4 footers. They are the 620's. I'm looking for a good mountain bike for my son or $175 for the pair. My son is 16 and he wants a quality bike if I trade. Larry
  7. This is a great thread. I have noticed that on very rough days that some of the best captains run bags regardless of speed. Is this a boat control thing? Do the bags offer a more consistent bait offering?
  8. I saw that the guys were launching with one person aboard then pick up the other guests on the break wall next to the bridge.
  9. Excellent. I did some carpin' Sunday morning at Irondequiot outlet. I chummed a football field of water and did have a good run. I may have over chummed a bit, for the temperature. It's a guessing game sometimes. Thanks for the report.
  10. I forgot to mention, the boat is in Rochester NY at a marina by the Genesee river. Thank you.
  11. I am in the process MAYBE buying a 1985 Sea Ray Amberjack. I had a survey done yesterday and am waiting for the report. The initial report says she may need mechanical attention. I need a recommendation on getting an estimate done on the mechanical stuff; maybe gimbal bearing adjustment/replacement, electrical (one of the power trim's doesn't seem to power up) and one of the engine's was bone dry (coolant). The specs: Twin 170 h.p. mercruisers that are closed cooling outfitted. The port engine was bone dry upon inspection (coolant wise). Why would that be? The starboard is full. Both engines' oil looks good, not milky or anything. The outdrives will need new anodes but appear to be in good shape. Anyway, I need advice as far as how much an estimate would be (roughly) to have all that stuff looked into. How much would all that stuff be to repair considering that I may just "go for it" as far new gimbal bearings, bellows (might as well if they are going into there anyway, right?) and electrical? Advice on an honest mechanic that I can say, "So and so sent me to you and highly recommended you...". My intentions are to hire a mechanic and stick with the mechanic faithfully. I believe in services like that. I appreciate you folks reading this and offering advice. The offer I MAY make on the boat will be based on what I have to do to get her turn key and dependable. If it's not worth it, I keep looking. Thanks! Captain Larry Hammond
  12. I am finally getting my first charter boat rigged.........of course it is being surveyed on Friday. I am in need of a lot of stuff. I was given a very nice head unit with an extra tube. It's a Furuno FCV 581. I also am in need of a rocket launcher type deal for the boat. It's a 1985 Sea Ray Amberjack 255. It's a rag top. Along the back of the boat is a small riser with a rotten piece of wood that runs along the gunwale. I would love to replace that and raise it up a little with a nice piece of aluminum or the like. Let me know if any of you have gear or advice. i appreciate it all! Thanks! Captain Larry Hammond
  13. In the old days chrysler windshield wiper motors replaced proos electric riggers perfectly
  14. I would consult Bill from Independent Marine. http://www.independentmarineservice.com/ Bill is honest and a terrific mechanic. Larry
  15. I have a set for sale. They are great riggers and built to last. Very easy to operate and ultra durable. The booms come in two sections of 2' so you can choose. I am asking $200 for the pair with swivel bases. I am hoping to get electrics very soon.
  16. I took the sea tech class and it was great. Excellent teachers and a great experience. I would be happy to help in anyway I can too. Larry
  17. These are very nice and reasonable. http://veada.com/boat-lounge-seats/back-to-back-boat-seats-ld200x.html
  18. I am looking for 3 quality electric downriggers. I prefer the Scotty's but would take a look at others. Thanks everyone! Larry
