  1. For something that special- go with Paul! You'd be hard pressed to ever catch a smallie bigger than that Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. Funny, I've been emailing Steve Lapan about this very thing. I can't stress how impressed I am with his openness and knowledge. I really do think we are in good hands, and tend to give him the benefit of the doubt on these decisions. If you email him, he will send great data that supports his decisions! Based on what I've seen, the bait data looks a lot better, and hopefully if we are careful it will continue to improve... Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. Stay in the stager water! They will often turn on later in the day- like between 10:30 and noon. I remember a few years ago at the oak where these fish would turn on from 12-1, and guys were catching like 4-8 kings in an hour! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  4. I love your videos. Though they make mine look so amateurish Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  5. I wouldn't expect a payback for the derby if I was a charter (unless it was the grand prize). On my boat we have all ams... we have so much invested and a pretty set derby team, so everyone knows that at least half the money goes towards the boat to help cover expenses (we are in about 3 grand per year before the boat leaves the dock the first time!!) 6. Another video. Fish were in 200-250 fow, 4 miles west, down 50-70 mostly. Flasher fly on dipseys and mag black or white spoons on riggers. It was pretty sporty out there this day. Interestingly, we had a ugly stick explode on a real nice king, the first time in 10+ years I've had a rod break when fighting a fish... we almost handlined it in, but lost it near the boat when it went to make a final run. 7. These kings are tackle ruining, any mistaking exploiting, mean sons of guns. My catch percentage goes waaaaaay down in August most years Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Boat gets one share, captain gets a 2nd, and the angler gets the third. Though that being said, I've had 5 fish between 15-20, and one 6th place laker, and with such a small amount the angler has always just gotten the full amount. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. 25 kings in a day... can't say that very often!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. You could catch all the fish in the lake with about 10 sticks, 20 spoons, 5 dodgers, 3 flies and 2 meat rigs. My suggestion? Look at the classified section for lots of spoons and sticks, as this will be the best bang for your buck. Sticks- get a perch, silver blue, silver/black, gold, chartreuse, green and white in any of the mentioned brands. Spoons- carbon 14, crab face, tuxedo, green gator, dirty white boy, NBK are all go to lures- I'd get several stinger flashers and several spin doctors. The colors are many, but green and silver are never wrong. I'd go all atommik on the flies and meat rigs- they are a must. We all have hundreds of lures, but it's overkill! You could get by with literally about 40 lures total! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Still working on my form, trying different techniques and views, etc... let me know what you think The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  12. I do everything I can to avoid other boats, right of way be damned. I never assume the other boats will do the right thing... so I steer clear Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. Expect about 1200-1600 lake wide Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. I've been checking inshore to start the day, and the screen was just barren in there all week. Guess I should have stopped short today, but I knew I had a short trip so far just ran to my numbers from yesterday. Whoops The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  15. Yeah, that was the theme today. Disappointing because the same water had good fish in it just yesterday The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  16. We started today right where we left off Saturday (though a bit later due to some strange intermittent electrical issues?). We set up in 200 fow on a nw troll at about 7 am. We were immediately into fish, with 4 hits in about 3 minutes on the set up, but we only boated one small king from that flurry. We would pick at them all am from 200-260 fow, but it was a MUCH smaller class of fish. Mostly 1 and 2 year olds, with not a single legit screamer. We had plenty of bites (18 bites in about 3 hours)- and on the way in at 10, we hit what should have been a quad on a nice bunch of steelies, which was pretty cool. We kept 6 for the grill, and released a bunch. Same baits as yesterday- mostly a spoon bite off the rigger, with a few shots on flasher fly off the dipseys. Temp and fish were much deeper today. Temp was about 100 down, and our riggers were parked at 95-118 all morning, with mag spoons being the best option. Dipseys 270-350 also did fish. Nothing on meat or j plugs, though we did run them all am. Back to Sodus tomorrow. The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  17. Wow. Good stuff Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Me and my buddy Jon got a short trip in at the oak today. It was pretty nautical out there, and steadily built throughout the morning, but was fishable with 3-5s and an occasional 6. We started in 120 thinking the west wind pushed some in... it didn't. So we pointed her nw to our waypoints from earlier in the week. Once we crossed 210 it was game on. We worked 14-16 west, and had a nice class of 2-3 year olds. We had one legit monster on, that we lost due to a snapped rod?!?!?!? We went 8-12, with most fish coming on a 150 dipsey with flasher fly and 65-95 riggers with mag spoons. We had 2 doubles which was....interesting with 2 guys in 5 footers... Back at it tomorrow. For what it's worth, every fish I have cleaned has had HUGE bait in their stomach. The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  19. Real well. 8-12, on a better class of salmon. Worked 210-250 just west. Lost a real big fish due to a snapped rod!?!?!? Mostly 2-3 year olds today The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  20. Wasn't sure where to start today after the ne blow, so we set up in 100 on a ne troll. We started with 4 smaller kings, all on a 50 rigger with a mag carbon 14. Water temp was very high, in the 40s down 50. Looking for bigger fish, we pointed northeast. Once we passed 300 fow, we got back into fish- but all small kings again. We would boat 8 more 1-2 year old kings, the biggest about 9 lbs. spoons on riggers was best, 60-80 down. We did get 2 hits on meat on a 300 copper, and one on a dipsey with a spoon. Temp was 50 down 70 or so. Our best water was 400-500 15-16 west. We kept 6 and released 6, including the smallest salmon I have ever seen (caught on a mag spoon no less!!) Where the heck are the majors?? I covered 100-500 fow today, and saw none.... The Fishin' Physician Assistant
  21. Anyone wanna fish in the oak tomorrow? I have the boat and equipment, but no one to go with, and I refuse to go alone! The Fishin' Physician Assistant
